I have been practicing with a slider for a while. I am in the habit of doing multiple passes and choosing the best footage by watching the playback. This allows for unintentional movement of my hands. I usually trim the start and end of the clip as my hand movement of the carriage needs a moment to get moving at a stable speed. I will often rest a fingertip between the track and carriage to actually feel the speed via friction on my finger. Lastly I will slow the clip down to 80% speed to enhance the smoothness. Thanks for showing the tilt pan, I had not thought of doing that one. All the best Allen
Awesome! I need to test it right tomorrow. I have a simple manual slider but never got smooth movements, and now I see your trick of using two hands. I bet this makes the difference, plus using one finger on the rail as a ‘manual friction’. Love your videos so much.
After a couple of 3 month after viewing your video for the first time I tried some of your slider moves. You were fully right: it's all about practicing, practicing, and practicing! The first moves I recorded have been miserable - but after the 10th or so I got better and better - sure, still some way to go. It's like a singer whose voice turns bad whenever the "on air" lamp is on, and his or her voice turns bad. Will post something later, and let your audience know how well your advice works.
Hi Josh I stumbled across your channel looking for tips on balancing my steady glide. Thanks for the tips. I work in film and television as a grip and have a UA-cam channel for my hobby of Relic Hunting. I am amassing more gear and shooting now in 4k. My next purchase will be a Drone and seeing your vids has convinced me to do so. I have subbed your channel. Cheers Don
Dude, when i mount my slider on a tripod, and i have the weight of the camera at the edge of either end, it tilts the fluid head...how do i prevent that?
Blue Calm Productions use a cheap light stand or second tripod or even monopod under the end of the slider to add extra bracing. Otherwise, you'll need a stronger tripod / fluid head or c-stand.
you jumped to the Sony? im waiting till Nikon gets it right, No need to zJump ship as DSLR is not Film. lol I may switch to Fuji film in two years if Nikon dont get it right ...
I always do but haven't seen the one using a Gimbal on a slider. I did a test yesterday using a Feiyu a2000 on a slider, I think it works ok, the only issue is when sliding and panning at the same time I get a little distortion on verticals ( filming for real estate videos) Im using a full frame and a 16-35mm lens.
Don't forget to 'TURN ON NOTIFICATIONS' - simply go to options and select 'all'. You'll only receive notifications when I post a new UA-cam video.

Thank you so much for the great comment! :)
I think mounting a Ronin SC on the slider would make it easier and smoother?
Awesome tutorial. Greetings from La Paz - Bolivia.
I think it would be easier using a fluid head

Hi Josh, I have a similar slider. Have you try to mount a Gimbal to a slider?
Yes, I have! Please check out my newer videos on my channel, and I will show you how :)
