ok, im gonna try and 1cc this now! progress update 9/14/24: nearly completed stage 4! aya's last spellcard, the one where you have to last 17 seconds, got me! but...i will not give up! second update: beat aya's stage, and nearly finished sanae! will keep going... third update: I DID IT!! my first touhou 1cc!
1st time is a nightmare. But this one is literally just "skate through left/right while avoid mentos and daggers are aimming at you" cliche. compare to 2 final... yea... not that hard
As a Hard/Lunatic player I'd say MoF is pretty easy on Normal as it was pretty easy for me even when I was a noob but it's incredibly difficult on any difficulty above and I don't think it should be considered the first game for beginners (EoSD is perfect as it encourages actually dodging and prepares you for later games). SA is actually very easy once you get the hang of it. It's just that you'll need to practice for a few days and you'll breeze on an NMNB pace up until Satori as the stage design and spell cards feel very organic and capturable, not spammy or annoying like in the newer games. LoLK is difficult only with Reimu & Marisa. For Easy & Normal use spam-bombing Reisen (I literally beat Normal on a Sunday afternoon in 3 hours with little to no training) and spam-bombing Sanae for Hard & Lunatic. As for you, you'll need to step up your game a little bit and do more aggresive play if you want to beat these games easily but it'll come to you once you play enough. No risk = no reward.
I totally get that! I actually started with EoSD, so I don't usually have too much trouble clearing the game. And as a whole, this game wasn't too rough. It's just this final fight felt like it tested everything I knew from all the games prior. Also, it probably didn't help I hadn't played any Touhou in about 3 months, so I was probably pretty rusty😭

As for right now, I'm mostly just working my way through all the games with continues, and that's enough for me since they challenge me regardless of using continues or not, like with Kanako. I also actually started with the old PC-98 games, so they prepped me for some stuff. This fight, unlike the other games where I could continue 2-3 times throughout the fight, actually really made me learn her patterns, especially with bombs tied to power. It's a satisfying feeling to finally win, though!

It took me a week to first beat it on Normal 2 years ago but my 1cc had high quality play and when I returned to it (without playing it in the meantime) about a year later to finish all shots on Normal, I breezed through the game no problem (except with MarisaC as she sucks). Compare that to the recent games where you either constantly spam the new gimmick or die to badly constructed stage design while spamming bombs, still getting that Lunatic 1cc on the first try.
Biggest lie ever told by the community, this game is one of the hardest in the series, and i finished every game 1CC including SA The final spell was the tensest moment i ever experienced in a game
It’s a game with above average difficulty patterns but a lot of room for error. Compared with 14 that has lower difficulty patterns but very little room for error
I can absolutely do the whole game without bombing on normal, maybe just once in stage 4 because of Aya's spellcard and once in stage 5 for points But man, stage 6 absolutely destroys me and let's not talk about kanako lmao
I did 2 spellcards first try, or within an hour of starting it, idk 2h for this game in total I think. In touhou 11 I think marisa B took me 10h alone. Reimu is pretty fine, but Marisa is just... UGH.

Honestly, MoF is kinda just right in normal difficulty. Just that you have to use power to bomb which is not normal for touhou (only 10 and 11 does this I think?) . Only last two spells that really need some practices. 2nd last need you to do some specific movement that's unorthodox compare to many spell in the game. Last one need very good reading for escape route. (and yea... hard/Lunatic is much more dense in that regard)
MoF being the easiest game is kind of a meme honestly. The stages and most of the bosses, when learned, are very consistent and lunatic is comparatively not hard compared to other games and normal, but assuming you're not playing at that level, the way the power and continue system works makes this game surprisingly punishing. People always claim you can bomb the shit out of everything but you really can't. Aya for example only gives you two power refills and one is after her first spellcard, when you don't really need it. Nitori has 2 hard spells you want to bomb with no refills and the beginning of stage 4 is harder if you're not at 4 power because you can't speedkill the fairies at 3 or lower. And don't get me started on stage 6. The stage portion is free but Kanako is so inconsistent and if you're not playing at max focus, you will lose 5 lives easily from having to bomb her first non and third spellcard require you to bomb pretty often and her fourth spellcard is easily the hardest spell on normal and pretty much needs to be bombed. That means you'll be at 2 power for the rest of the fight which makes the rest of her attacks take much longer. She's nice enough to give you a refill before her final spellcard but that monstrosity easily eats through at least 2 lives for me in most attempts. Like, I get that you can just bomb spam the stages and it's not the hardest game ever but compared to EoSD, where you can pretty much just stockpile lives until stage 4 and then bomb the rest of the game with 0 skill, I think this is a fair bit harder.

yeah, except for stage 4 which is crazy. bosses wise, its not too bad, its just yeah kanako is crazy. also if you have thcrap for playing the games, just look up alphes in the config tool and it should pop up, i use the custom sprites just cause i love the style of them
@starrush1818 stage 4 is very tame compared to other games if you take your time to practice it. The only catch is momiji but you can literally just bomb her and she'll immediately give you the power used for that bomb back.
