For me, the main thing that's hard right now is the final spell. No matter how many hours I pour into it, I can't even beat the Normal Mode version of it, yet Easy is a piece of cake. I think the main fault I have is not being able to react to the openings fast enough (when it starts going to rage mode that is), yet most captures I see on UA-cam has people doing the same tactics I use, except with ease, so it makes me feel very down about myself. that's exactly what i didn't get. I can bombless hard most games, but i have trouble beating lunatic My incapacity to bomb aside, this guide is perfect. Simple quick and easy to understand, this is with no doubt clearly how to beat touhou lunatic. it's true that it's not that hard when you have clearly in mind the goal to 1cc, and with enough preparation and routing, anything becomes doable. If you want to clear every single spellcard, that's fine, but don't expect to 1cc in a matter of 2 to 3 years.
I don't know anything about Touhou but I like the music I guess. Still, +1, your dedication to creating a quality video is noteworthy, and deserves more attention.
I'm basically doomed because the part I enjoy most about the game IS figuring out stuff on my own. Hopefully if I'm ever looking to extend beyond Normal I'll eventually get mad enough to start researching instead...
Yeah, so figure out everything you can while 1cc-ing the game on Normal and Hard (since those allow for more mistakes and you're allowed to miss safespots, strategies for spellcards, etc). And then, after you've figured out basically everything there is that you could realistically understand, look up a clear. You will have missed some stuff and maybe you'll find out better strategies for some spellcards that you couldn't have figured out on your own.
I did 16 lunatic by figuring things out. But i relied a lot on bombs and realises, i don't even feel like i can dodge anything or even have good routing from stage 4
You're not doomed. Some hard-to-figure-out patterns might need to be automatic bombs for you, but for the rest, you can use a tool called thprac to practice sections and find your own route. That's what I did and I had a lot more fun that way.
touhou 4's lunatic mode doesn't ramp up it's difficulty much(there's still some extreme difficulty spikes)and it gives you MANY resources so it's the first touhou game I did a lunatic 1cc on
This guide is also applicable to most other vertical and horizontal SHMUPs. It all comes down to practice, learning routes and patterns, remaining calm and not being afraid of using bombs.
I don't install practice mod and i create my own routes, relying only sometimes to internet. But before lunatic i wouldn't use continues, so the first thing i learned was to eat my pride and use them to unlock stages. Also, i have only played 15-17 1cc lunatic started 18 but 17 is the easiest i've done(keiki costs two bombs at the last two spells if you've got enough skill to dodge the easiest parts). Tho if you route too intensly it can be a bad because of the spirits. Using bombs is probably the best skill of a lunatic player. I can say without shame that i beated LoLK by having never captured Junko's three lasts. I just had a so good run that i managed to get to her last attack with two lives and two bombs. With Marisa, you need three bombs to kill her without dodging from the moment the blue bullets comes in. Also, in lunatic, you can't no miss no bomb the two first stages. Even the first stage is impossible to do so sometimes. I had a routed bomb in stage one of 15 and i never passed stage two without dying Finally(this comment is just me saying what i think at the moment) half of the time i grind in lunatic i (feel like i) do nothing. I watch videos and read mangas. I'm not that much try hard on the short end. I can pass the day switching playing and doing nothing but i couldn't pass two hours playing straight. Also, i'm still at school, so i habe the time to brute force lunatic
My rouing can be pretty poor sometimes. My plan for HSiFS was to don't die during the three first stages and then use my bombs to survive 'till the end. It was pretty rough.
Different people develop different systems, but we both arrived at parts of the game having difficulty spikes & dips to be aware of. I just separate them into parts to bomb and parts not to bomb, based on whether or not I can consistently dodge them. If I die on a part where I wasn't going to bomb (or if I die with several bombs), then I continue the run bombless until game over. It forces me to dodge the patterns that come after. This slowly expands the range of my bombless portions further into the game until I have enough resources to either scrape through or just bomb down the final bits of the game. It's also accidentally given me my first no-bomb runs.
