- After opening with 64s in the first two rounds, Tiger Woods went on to win the 1997 GTE Byron Nelson Golf Classic, his third win in eight starts.
Tiger Woods' chase for Sam Snead's record of 82 PGA TOUR wins began at the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational, his first TOUR win in just his fifth professional start. Over 20 years later Woods' excellence has seen him raise a trophy in six countries and 16 different American states.

My dad was a sports writer for the Fort Worth Star Telegram for 40 years (he's now retired). He was at this Byron Nelson golf tournament. He spent Friday and Saturday out there, but he didn't plan on being out there on the final day. So he let me go instead, and I got to use his press pass so I could get better parking and actually get closer to all the action on each hole where the press people were at. Getting to stand right there only a few feet from Tiger as he would drive the ball is one of those things you won't ever forget. It was so damn impressive.
This Tiger guy is gonna be great
19:40 Wish we had more camera shots like that in golf
the network need to rethink about replacing some of these so called analysts who should be analyzing the game and not saying sly stupid things about some of the players.
35:30 guy in the tank top is a hero
Big102080 “C’mon Tiger... Stomp on ‘em baby!!” 😂 hahaha classic
@@chrisosmonson854 I hope this man was able to watch Tiger win his 5th green jacket!
So i started watching this yesterday at work. I always glance at the comments before watching. I resumed watching this morning, again at work, and got to this part. I immediately remembered the tank top comment when i saw that guy and got a good chuckle out of it. Thank you lol
@@Butcho22 while wearing his green tank top !
Man the passion that guy had for young Tiger. 2 GOATS.
I could watch Tiger play all day. #Pandemic2020
It appears I actually do watch Tiger play all day..
If you like watching putting and chipping first 13 minutes of this Is fire.
@joshua hymer. Thank You.
Came here for Tigers extraction from the Grate. 35:30 or so, From another comment citing the spectator. ✌️
Tiger makes the game fun when he is on his A game.........
Coming from behind or boat racing the field, which was usually the case, never got old My good friend worked at the pro shop a Naval Destroyer course next to Los Al racetrack for many years Played there many times with him and the pro shop guys and you would always see Tiger out on the course He was in Jr High HS then and if he wasn't at school he was there hitting it a mile at 15
Where was Curis Strange 🤔🤔🤔🤯🤯🤯🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂
I was the basketball writer for the Daily Planet back in 1997, and they asked me to cover this tournament when our golf correspondent inexplicably disappeared during a major local disaster. To be there that close to Tiger, to see how he worked, how he approached every shot, the determination, the focus - it’s something I’ll never forget. Even just the sound of his driver…we all knew he was special. If you read this, thanks for going mia, Clark; it gave me one of the best experiences I’ve ever had as a sports writer.
His fifth win in fifteen pro starts? That's pretty good.
Considering you only need 15 wins or 2 major wins to get into the Golf Hall of Fame, yea, pretty good. I think he'll do well.
Does anyone know why there are no Majors listed in the chase of 82
Why is more Champaign
15:30 that's Fergie from BEP?
1:48 Someone hit one in the water
Where is Hal? LMAO
Forsman was a cool looking dude in that round, but played too laid-back in the closing holes and left a lot of money on the table.
That intro is so epic
I have a newspaper insert with this event that has a picture of Tiger Woods on the front. The insert was printed by the Dallas morning news and is dated 05/11/1997 and is signed by Tiger Woods. I am looking to get this signed memorabilia authenticated. What is the best company to use for this service? I will be listing this for sale after I can get it authenticated.
Send it to me, I’ll get it taken care of for you
@@jamesdavis8542 You can buy it and I will send it to you. Make me an offer.
👍
is this the first appearance of the legendary scotty?
Would have to be one of the first. Still got the magic 23 years on.
The one he’s using here is a teryllium. He won the 97 Masters with it but every major after that was won with the GSS Newport 2
First
Ratnejai tomar boi
woods should watch these
Why? Hes the only one who lived it. We just watched him.
just to remind himself how much confidence he had throughout his whole game
@@McGovernGolf Just run down the stairs, you will notice the difference yourself!
