This is the exclamation point to Tiger Woods' 2000 wins. 9 wins in 1 year, including 3 majors and the Canadian Open, that some claim should be a major tournament. Mind you, the 18th hole shot did not impress Tiger, because it did not land on the green but on the fringe. Many claimed it was a spectacular shot, with every possibility it will land on water from the bunker.

How tempting would it have been to just lay up and give yourself a chance for an up-down birdie and STILL win the tournament? I mean the worst-case scenario is a layup and 2-putt to go to a playoff. Instead he lines up a shot over the water that, if left JUST short it's in the water and you lose the tournament. Not to mention he knows full well that he is attempting a shot literally not a single soul could pull off. 213yd to the hole, over the water, with a tree obstructing the view of the pin, FROM THE SAND, with an uphill lie, AND it's raining. And he grabs a 6 IRON ... carries it within a few yards of the hole. This was Tiger at his best.

My dad got me tickets to this event for my 12th bday. I was green side with him when tiger hit his famous sand shot. I remember watching the ball in the air my dad screamed " it's in the water tiger" I said " come on dad it's tiger woods". Haha great memory!

Watched Grant Waite in person a few times in the late 90s. He was clearly a better ball striker than his playing partners in all of the pairings, but his putting was mediocre. It was exciting to watch him go up against Tiger when he found his putting stroke.

I was there, but without the vantage point to see where he hit from. What I remember is that there were 4, or 5 shots hit to that spot on the fringe / rough, and everyone else chipped well past the hole...of course Tiger chips it to 2 feet.

I've played Glen Abbey multiple times and this course is a joke for these pros. Super wide and fast fairways and accessible greens. It's no surprised Tiger shot the lights out in 2000. However, that 2nd shot at the 16th hole at 11:27 was extremely impressive as that green is wide, very undulated and not very deep with a huge deep bunker in front.

Obviously this game is very well-remembered thanks to that ridonculous bunker shot, but this game is underrated as a heads-up duel. I'd never heard of Grant Waite (I got into golf in 2004) but he put on a heck of a show.
That's just the GOAT being the GOAT. Grant played his absolute best in 72 holes. Tiger's last 54 holes were better.
I can't get enough of these early Tiger highlights, mostly just listening to the commentators laughing out of disbelief for what he can do.

If you put Jack in competition today with Tiger, if you put Tiger in Jack's era Tiger would flat out win. Tiger brought his gift to play golf, his talent skill and mental toughness to a fading and boring sport. Jack had his time and I respect him as a champion. If it wasn't for Tiger breathing life into golf I never would've watched. Been watching since '96 when he turned pro in the city I live; the way Tiger plays golf all the words that ppl have used to describe it are true!!! Tiger Woods could still match 18 Majors and over 90 PGA Tour wins and there will still be Jack fans who say Nicklaus is the GOAT. Even after majors are aside, they'll use the excuse of less competition and say Jack only dealt with 4 or 5 elite players and Tiger had none even though nearly all the players now are elite . . . because of Tiger. Tiger is the GOAT.
