Just a little heads up, and maybe I missed it, but a Wave 1/3 is not the only way to use the software. WaveXLR would work too and that could turn any existing mic into a Wave style controlled one. Wave 1 is still the cheapest, but there is another option.

Knowing if the "nutty way" existed or not was what was keeping me on the fence about this mic. THANK YOU! I need to keep some channels off of the VOD for editing purposes, so a mic that gives me multiple virtual devices that I can choose to NOT bundle into a single source in OBS is absolutely worth the extremely minor fidelity differences in it's price class (which can be a preference anyway)
With the NUTTY method, can you still mute music on your end temporarily but not for the stream? Like if I need to listen to footsteps In game but stream doesn’t. Then unmute again afterwards.
What I'd like Elgato to update on Wave Link is a setting feature where you can set "markers" on the volume bars of each audio source so I can quickly go back and forth between my favorite volume settings during certain parts of my streams, cause sometimes I forget how soft or how loud I had a volume setting configured on a certain audio source since I'm always changing the volume depending on circumstances and sometimes I need to go back to what it was set at before so I'm always troubleshooting that when this happens.
Do you have a stream deck or equivalent macro? On stream deck you can setup a db level button. We use this for different scenes. Setup as -10db or +20 db. With one click the vol will change. Make it a toggle switch and it will go back and forth.
i cant already envision the thumbnail for when elgato adds vst support your face doing the tim and eric mind blown face, and the caption on the video says "THEY FINALLY DID IT" and you know i'll watch it
Friendly reminder to streamers that using VOD audio channel to play copyrighted music while live doesn't mean you couldn't get your channel struck, but since most of us little people are unlikely to get in trouble, all we get is segments of our VODs muted, and thus, separating the music can at least make your VOD completely viewable thanks to not getting muted, but understand that the violation of copyrights still happened, and you can theoretically still get in trouble for it.
We just started using Voicemeeter, not convinced yet I need a Wave and mixing software. Stream Deck is still light years ahead of anything else. Keep innovating Elgato! Thank you!!!
I manage a twitch channel for my gf. We were very used to using voicemeter with a stream deck and blue yeti. But recently purchased a wave 3 for a cheap alternative to higher quality mics and mixing boards. There were a few hills to climb, but the worst part was having to start from square 1 after using voicemeter for so long! So honestly, hold out with voicemeter unless you REALLY need to make the switch.
💯, I was just having this conversation. If Elegato could just give us VST support, their software would become a welcomed replacement for VM. But until then, I'm just looking forward to what Beacn will give us with their mic 👀
We love the Wavelink. You mentioned switching monitoring devices I may have a solution. There is a stream deck plug in that allows one click audio output source changing. It is called audio output switcher, I know shocker 🤣. Hope this helps
@5:00 They do not in fact all work the same. I found that out the hard way. This becomes apparent when dual-pc streaming and using Voicemeeter to bridge the connections between computers.
I think 99% of people use more of the VM features than you realize lol. It's just so nice to have that flexibility. Having to buy a wave mic just to use the software also is an immediate nope. AT-2020 here, never turning back.
Great video!! One key feature VoiceMeeter offers for the dual pc streamer is the ability to vban audio between the 2 pcs, but not a deal breaker for most users... The only question I have regarding the comparison between Voicemeeter and the Wave Mixer is which of the 2 uses the least amount of system resources?
I've been using the nutty method for goxlr audio setup in obs months... Desktop Audio 1 is GOXLR System Desktop Audio 2 is GOXLR Music (removing it from channel 2 and channel 2 is my twitch vod track) Mic 1 GoXLR Broadcast stream mix Mic 2 GoXLR Chatmic so I can give more care to where the audio level is inside my stream for my mic.
i'm honestly surprised no ones went in and tried to modify the installer for the wave link software to try and get it to ignore the check that it uses to see if you have a wave mic pluged in
I'd love if they had support for any microphone rather than being required to purchase the Wave Mic. As someone who doesn't have a GoXlr and uses a PC Panel and AT-2020, some software options would be nice to explore.
Ironically just now made the same comment myself. I think that they are putting the price of the mic with the software. Because honestly the mic by itself why cheap is still kind of pricey for its Standalone features. And honestly Elgato is known for its hardware mixing with its software in most cases. It would be nice if they would make a version that gives access without the wave mics. Like a small fee or something since they clearly arent gonna for free.
They can't, the mic is the actual mixer, the Link software only controls the settings in the mic hardware. That's why the mic output on the back is zero latency.
@@bryanbillings false. The software and hardware do make less latency when combined, but the software is something that could be standalone in the same way as banana.
@@bryanbillings the mic has no mixing capabilities, as nutty said. You only have volume/gain control. It is not the mixer but any stretch of the imagination. It is a basic (decent) USB microphone that unfortunately is linked to good software that elgato is charging for via the mic. Grated, it is a decent mic for the money, but for those of us that want good software control of audio in the stream space and want something that isn't a GOXLR, it would be nice to have this option without buying the mic.
Adding another or as many as you want Monitor and Stream Mixes is an awesome idea! Also hate it so much to go into my wave link software to change it from headphones to speakers and change it later back.
Great video. I have the wave 3 and as you were saying I really would love another monitor slot added since I have an external AMP and DAC for my headphones and speakers and it is annoying to have to switch around.
This seems good, but having VoiceMeeter work with my Korg nanokontrol 2 and having VBAN is just way too important for me. Sure VM does have its problems but once you get used to how it works and can look past some of its flaws its amazing.
I wish WaveLink offered multi track recording. Where you could record each individual input at the same time, so in post production you have a clean signal for each audio input. I know you can do that in OBS, but that would allow for the individual audio capture vs “the nutty way”.
Thx for the video. I love the simplicity of wave link against Voicemeeter. But as some others pointed out. I wont sell my microfone just to make use of this good looking advanced driver with UI for the Wave series. an additional monitor as nutty said, and an angled plug in at the side or to the side for cable management would be nice. back is better than bottom, i agree with that, but as nutty showed in the beginning u hit it with the frame above a specific angle.
when adding the microphone (box 1) into my obs like you do @10:55 , i don't see an option for "Wave 1". would it be "Mic in" even though i named it Microphone?
The nutty method is the actual problem solver! If its all bundled together than why even use the software, desktop audio does that only, which is the problem to start with

Wish it was available for other mics, other than the Wavelink, but I think I got Windows mixer to do what I need to do at the moment for my setup, and it works
I use the Nutty method but on double , that way one audio goes to stream other to monitor all in order to be controlled with touch portal in a similar way that stream deck does that way I can set the volumen in each escene
I don't think elgato would do it. But it would be nice to have wave link without a wave mic. Maybe charge a small one time fee for access since they clearly want something for it
I just bought the AT2020 and Scarlett 2i2 for content creation and making music. Wave link looks so good, here’s hoping you can use it with non-Elgato products 😆
With the updates that wavelink have now like the filters in application, do you think it's worth the switch from voicemeeter potato? I'm considering it as I have a wave mic already and really would like to streamline the process/make it easier.
As someone who had no idea how voicemeter potatoe worked at one point. Trust it is by far the better software currently. It doesn't take long to get the hang of it.
Great vidéo. One question, i use midi device for controlling voicemeeter and things like that. What about usb midi device ? Wavelink support it ? Ok that's two questions.
Everything is excellent except that I can't use my wireless headset with wave link without a frustrating delay, I can use it wired but it will lose the modification (SteelSeries GG)
I don't have a Wave mic however I have a Stream Deck and was able to use Wave Link. I was able to set everything up it seems until I realised when I selected between the input options on Discord and testing it that my input for voice settings is now picking up on everything within Wave Link (In other words every sound being played is going through my mic). Is it not possible to use Wave Link properly without having their Wave mics? I wanted to use this so I could adjust each audio volume on my Stream Deck + with the dials. I was using Steelseries GG Sonar before trying to switch to this but you can't adjust each of the audio channels through Steam Deck

Spent a week researching and trying to fix the VM crackling which is now constantly happening. I cba to restart the audio engine every 5 seconds when also trying to play and stream. Not willing to bin my mic so looking for an alternative that works :(
Ah, the hardware is mandatory, and I use five outputs in VM Potato, I'll be hard pressed to transition 🤣 Interesting solution though, nice to see how it works.
@@yenice3652 Edit: These are my current VoiceMeeter hardware outputs, I also use all three of the virtual ones in Potato. 1. USB Interface, for XLR mike and monitoring headphones 2. Wireless headphones 3. Audio DAC for speakers 4. Valve Index HMD 5. Bluetooth Soundcard for a Woojer Edge Vest V1: All my microphones in one output V2: Same but the default device in Windows so I can mute that in cames with always on VoIP V3: Combined microphones and TTS so people I stream with (that agree to it) can hear my chat TTS (this was my original response, due to me not checking the topic, but for anyone interested this is my recording tracks in OBS) it has increased with time, now even all six, to enable post show editing: 1. Full mix that goes out to stream 2. Only microphones 3. Only Discord VoIP 4. Only my TTS bot+other stream effects (monitoring) 5. Clean game feed 6. Possible soundtrack
Any idea why wavelink not saving settings (browser game Spotify etc) after windows restart ? I installed mine few days ago and settings keep resetting upon win10 reboot, reinstalled it and still not working.
Until they support VST, can't justify buying it. I run a 2 PC streaming setup so my streaming PC runs OBS. Can't use OBS for VST filters if all my audio is combined and goes through my capture card, so naturally I use Voicemeeter. Only Issue I have with Voicemeeter is the amount of times it turns my mic audio into static in Discord, or Shadowplay recordings where my mic sounds horrible. I would imagine Wave Link would solve that.
I would buy this software alone just to use it. For me to do something similar with voice meeter I would have to use multiple virtual cables. 2 Different outputs. Like my headphones and maybe a sound card. Forget it.
If they added a EQ setup in it and make it a basic virtual version of the Goxlr I would think of trading mine goxlr for it well the elagto xlrwave at least
This is excellent Nutty! Quick question for you. Now that VST’s are supported in Wavelink, do their effects (ex. noise suppression) get passed thru to OBS when you add the wavelink channel to the OBS scene (as opposed to the consolidated stream)?
Hey bro, I took your advice and brought the mic and I love it so far. I can't figure out how to split the audio tracks for recordings though. Would it be possible you could make a video or reply to explain how to get separate audio tracks for recorded videos in OBS, please.
Voicemeeter is great and all but sometimes, it gurbles up my mic when I'm speaking in Discord (while the recording is fine), but I found that dpclat fixes that so it might be computer/Discord related. And rarely, it distorts my headphones/speaker audio and it needs to restart the audio engine. So I'm really interested to see the stability of wave link... Also, i also use multiple audio outs for speakers/headphones/Hi-Fi and this would lure me to try it out...
Its a discord issue 48000Hz is the highest that works. Put everything in 48000Hz sample rate. Microphone, virtual cables and in voicemeeter in settings Preferred Main SampleRate. That is the best fix for now.
was actually wondering about the audio in obs and if it was possible to separate them since i might not wanna have certain audio in some highlights. guess ill follow the nutty way 🤔
With the NUTTY method, can you still mute music on your end temporarily but not for the stream? Like if I need to listen to footsteps In game but stream doesn’t. Then unmute again afterwards. Can all this be controlled in the wavelink software?
Hey! You gotta problem with James?! JK man. Thanks for the tips. Just got a Wave 3 and was so ready to switch from Voicemeeter. Got my OBS setup and ready in about half an hour thanks to your video! And remember... Don't poke the James unless you wanna get poked back! ;)
nutty ~ How would this setup work with a 2 PC (gaming & streaming rig) setup? Specifically, how can you output back to the gaming rig for in-game or discord?
Do you know if we can use it with Cantabile? because i need it to use vst plugins on my microphone and the only software i know it works together, is Voicemeeter. Wich is ok for me, but i like try new software.
You should be able to pull the mic into any program by itself, outside the Wave Link mix. I've got a Wave XLR and I'm able to at least. It's how I add processing to my mic in obs. I pull the mic in separately by itself and mute it in the Wave Link mix.
Funny, Wavelink gave me a headache Voicemeeter didn't. The only problem of Voicemeeter for me is that it constantly crashes, it has an auto restart option tho. It bothers, but it works and it's simple. idk

wtf do you use 5 outputs for
@@yenice3652
Edit: These are my current VoiceMeeter hardware outputs, I also use all three of the virtual ones in Potato.
1. USB Interface, for XLR mike and monitoring headphones
2. Wireless headphones
3. Audio DAC for speakers
4. Valve Index HMD
5. Bluetooth Soundcard for a Woojer Edge Vest
V1: All my microphones in one output
V2: Same but the default device in Windows so I can mute that in cames with always on VoIP
V3: Combined microphones and TTS so people I stream with (that agree to it) can hear my chat TTS
(this was my original response, due to me not checking the topic, but for anyone interested this is my recording tracks in OBS)
it has increased with time, now even all six, to enable post show editing:
1. Full mix that goes out to stream
2. Only microphones
3. Only Discord VoIP
4. Only my TTS bot+other stream effects (monitoring)
5. Clean game feed
6. Possible soundtrack
If you had two moniter mixes, wouldn't you need mic jacks?
how about an update ..using vst in wavelink
Is there a way to break this down so it goes to two different headsets??
Can you use this for a dual pc setup?
Is it possible to use it without a wave mic?
Do you have a video how to use the wave with a dual PC setup?
Forget it.
What's with the bandaid on your finger?
do you need the mic to use the software?
Definitely needing more outputs to compete with the usage I have on voicemeter. Sorry @elgato
Is there a feature that allows you mute your mic with your game chat and ONLY talk to your chat on stream?
will they ever make the wave link program to use with other xlr's mics that people already own?
wait i just realize we can do this with thier new waveXLR
If they added a EQ setup in it and make it a basic virtual version of the Goxlr I would think of trading mine goxlr for it well the elagto xlrwave at least
I just literally watched your VM video and set it up already then I see this. Bruh
Nutty method, is the best imho
is there a way to use this from a 2 PC stream set up? i have to use voicemeter to get the proper inputs/outputs from game PC?
This is excellent Nutty! Quick question for you. Now that VST’s are supported in Wavelink, do their effects (ex. noise suppression) get passed thru to OBS when you add the wavelink channel to the OBS scene (as opposed to the consolidated stream)?
Ur cracked bro
Hey bro, I took your advice and brought the mic and I love it so far. I can't figure out how to split the audio tracks for recordings though. Would it be possible you could make a video or reply to explain how to get separate audio tracks for recorded videos in OBS, please.
I was able to separate them for streams but recording, I can't seem to figure it out, any advice would be fantastic!
I am looking forward for your updates dude
Yes, this is possible.
How is this an alternative to Voicemeeter if you need a specific type of hardware?
+1 This.
Funny, Wavelink gave me a headache Voicemeeter didn't. The only problem of Voicemeeter for me is that it constantly crashes, it has an auto restart option tho. It bothers, but it works and it's simple. idk
