The Sabu vs Funk Barbwire match was insane! When Sabu tore open his bicep, Funk was performing kicks and etc but Sabu wasnt selling anything he was busy taping that arm!

Have a few versions of that Barbed Wire Match with Dabu and Terry Funk for the ECW World Title both on VHS and DVD and still enjoy watching it . Had to be 1 of THE sickest matches ever in not just ECW but pro wrestling period . Props to 2 Hardcore Legends in Sabu and Terry Funk.

This is the first I've heard about it. But I suspected it after I saw the match, that they were just going to the finish as they were too entangled in the barbed wire.

I KNOW THERE ARE FANS OUT THERE THAT WOULD CAST THEIR VOTE FOR NEW JACK AS THE "THE KING OF HARDCORE".. AND I CERTAINLY PUT HIM UP THERE.. YET SABU HAS ALWAYS KEPT IT WITHIN THE REALM OF HARDCORE SO TO SPEAK.. HE HASN'T GONE INTO MATCHES WITH THE MENTALITY AND INTENTION TO CRIPPLE EVERYONE STANDING ACROSS THE RING FROM HIM.. THAN PURPOSELY INJURING YOUR OPPONENT.. IN THE SAME TOKEN I SURELY APPRECIATE JACK'S PUTTING "HIMSELF" ON THE LINE WITH ALL THE DANGEROUS HIGH FLYING TOP OF THE CAGE LEAPS, AND 20FT+ TABLE CRASHES HE'S DONE.. I APPLAUD ALL THAT.. The entire Born 2 be Wired commercial tape/Event should’ve been a PPV (It’s sad that ECW finally gets to PPV and the PPV are nothing more then WCW & WWF quality events) Huge disappointment Paul E. is a dope for caving in. PPV at the time had UFC & Hardcore triple XXX adult films on there platform but, ECW watered itself down to get in bed with PPV companies in the long run it didn’t help them much and devalued what made ECW a true alternative

Sabu here himself demonstrated how dangerous they are, I mean he wrapped his legs in barbed wire and did a leg drop. Not hard to imagine how easy it would've been to cut the artery in your leg, and boom, game over. Nobody is saving you from that.
The matches themselves are lackluster, because there's only so much you can do surrounded by barbed wire. Maybe I just don't get it

Look at Sabus elbow from taking all those crazy bumps and elbow drops through tables. Definitely not the sharpest knife in the drawer. One of the toughest, but not one of the smartest.
