    Jerry Ruess came up HUGE for the Dodgers in this game. Guidry was an especially tough opponent for the Dodger lineup so Ruess basically had zero margin for mistakes. This is the game that actually decided the World Series.

    I was at Game 1. Saw Joe D, James Cagney & Pearl Bailey. Great night. But it was all downhill from there. Happy for guys like Yeager, but still painful. Great to hear Cosell again.

    It’s always good watching the Yankees self destruct. Very enjoyable series for me as a young Yankee hater especially considering how the series started in New York.

    I was too young to be into baseball in 1981 and missed these games. Love seeing Steinbrenner disappointed in the box seats though, haha.

    Guaranteed is you ask Jerry Reuss the greatest games he ever pitched, it would be this one and his no hitter vs. the Giants the year before in 1980. Jerry was a great Dodger.

    Here's one of my fan'd out moment: I'm in the store, with a Dodgers shirt on. You would only catch me in either the Pirates or Dodgers gear. (Pittsburgh is home y'all). I'm 10 years old, there was a man standing in line in front of me. Once he paid, the cashier gave him his change & he said "Thank You!" My mouth hit the ground because I knew that voice to be John Ramsey's voice. He looked , slapped my shoulder, winked 7 started walking off. I just asked/begged for him to announce Steve Garvey.... he did, & more eyes bugged out. Then when he finished, someone yelled out the piano sound to "Charge." Whenever who yelled that, finished..... the rest of the store yelled.... "CHAAAAAARGE!!!!" And John walked out smiling. I should've peed on myself, but thankfully I didn't.

    At 55:57, Little did Earvin Magic Johnson know that he would end up becoming one of the co-owners of the Dodgers, BUT ALSO, little did he know that he would end up being involved in coaching controversy just a month later.

    Too many Yankees elements missing: Dent, Nettles, Gossage, Reggie Jackson for the first three games. . Coupled with the unfortunate Dave Winfield slump.

      True. Also, the Yankees never recovered from the infamous Bobby Murcer failed bunt and the baserunning errors in Game 3.

      @BEAST1968 With the honoring of Dusty Friday, it was explained of why bubble gum was thrown towards him, he liked to chew gum, it was out of respect for him, caused they loved him.

      He was totally biased toward NY. Had Valenzuela been on the Yankees and pitched that 149 pitches game, Cosell would have been blowing trumpets saying what a epic game Fernando pitched.

    why wasn't Vin broadcasting this game?

    • @Stankfunkmusic74
      @Stankfunkmusic74 2 роки тому +3

      He did on the Radio. And there were plenty of transistor radios without the one earpiece, so we could hear Vin until the crowd got louder.

    Howard Cosell was the worst announcer, a definite New York homer...especially during game 6. He was apologizing, sounded like someone took his blanket away from him, it was horrible.

      Howard was the broadcaster version of the wrestler "heel." People turned into ABC's Monday Night Football to hate him, to listen to him duel with Don Meredith. ABC tried to replicate that by putting him on ABC's weekly baseball telecasts, but it wasn't the same audience, he just came off as a jerk.
      In private, though, he was quite the different person. He was among the few who stood by Muhammad Ali after his name change and trial for refusing induction. www.nytimes.com/2016/06/05/sports/muhammad-ali-and-howard-cosell-foils-and-friends-bound-by-mutual-respect.html

    Disappointing these yankees should have at least won this game unbelievable not a consistent threat to the dodgers at all and allowed the dodgers to catch up and beat them now the yankees are down 3 games to 2 they need to take the next 2 games now or theyre done guidry davis & gossage didnt have theyre good stuff today very disappointing 😢

    • @Rayburn58
      @Rayburn58 Рік тому

      Why should they have won a game they clearly lost fair and square? What a stupid comment. Guidry had great stuff, he only gave up 2 runs on back to back homers. The Yankees were shut down by a great performance by Reuss. You sound like that ass hole cosell blaming the Yankees and giving he Dodgers no credit. The Dodgers stormed back in this series and kicked the Yankees ass. Stop crying about it 40 years later.

    • @Rayburn58
      @Rayburn58 9 місяців тому +2

      Poor yankee fan, so sorry for you. Make all the excuses you want.... Guidry had geat stuff, he only gave up back to back home runs and nothing else, what are you talking about? Jerry Reuss was just a bit better that day. Face it, the Dodgers bounced back and kicked their ass.
