I was in the bleachers for these 3 games (16 years old, $15/game, paid for it myself). Can’t wait till you post Game 5. Climbed over the outfield wall and ran onto the field along with all the others.
As a lifelong Orioles fan, it was a pleasure to be your Arch Enemy back then. We saw the A's coming from 1969 on. We knew that if they were to get past the Twins (and they did) they would have to be legitimately dealt with. They were basically a mirror image of the Orioles. They had it all and while we defeated them in the '71 ALCS, in hindsight we waisted a golden chance to cement that era with a exclamation point. Yes, the A's were the West Coast Orioles, the major fact was we were in that window where you're still a damn good team, but your deficiencies stick out a little more because your core is either at, or just past the threshold of greatness. Oakland was just stepping in that threshold, and after the loss in '71, they had that taste, and it told them its TIME! From that moment on the A's had our number. We were still the Orioles, but the A's were younger, and every move they made worked roster wise, and down on the farm. We brought up quality guys from the Bird Farm, but they just didn't quite give us what Oakland got. So we had the Tigers edge us out in 72 and Oakland scratched, clawed, bite hard, and the Tigers just wouldn't die. It was Detroit's last run with the team that won it all just 4 years prior, and they knew it. Detroit went down fighting all the way in a classic 5 game series that "real" baseball fans are still wondering why that series isn't talked about just from the Tigers perspective at least. Anyway, the door got kicked in officially and The "Swingin' A's" were World Champs. Young, strong, tough as nails, and intimidating. Once again A's vs Orioles in the regular season played playoff intense games and we all knew what the LCS was in April. Twice more the A's proved their worth, defeating my beloved Orioles in '73 and '74 then followed it up with their second and third World Championships, something my Orioles (as great as they were) failed to do and by Spring Training 1975 the Orioles were just another "good team", not good enough to say we're Championship material. The A's however, reached that place the Orioles saw 4 years prior. However, it wasn't because the A's were aging, or had just become deficient in critical areas. They did, but because the Owner just didn't see the long range ramifications of his actions concerning key pieces of a bonefied dynasty. Y'all know what happened. The Red Sox had a hell of a season, and actually swept the A's and that was that. Dynasty over on both sides of the coast. But to be honest, the A's vs Orioles still to this day is a decent rivalry. They just always play good games, and I think its history following them or something. Those days in my childhood watching incredible baseball teams win and just when we thought it was safe to put our names in the upper echelon of the A.L., the Damn New York Yankees explode back on the scene. Chris Chambliss off Mark Littell and they were "Officially" back! And Yankee fans will tell us that order was restored. hahaha
All this happened before I became a die hard Met fan loving Met rain delays because they always showed 69 and 73 and my Dad always talking about George Stone but having said all that I love reading fans of other teams talk so passionately especially an era I just missed. It makes watching and listening to old games from when I was around but not quite ready (I broke in as a fan in mid 75 after my Dad put me in little league and even though I don’t like today’s game too much I still love these games. I will never forget my mom saying How can u love something your so bad at LOL Great jobs not only from the uploader but all you wonderful commenters sharing your memories!!
I BECAME AN A'S FAN IN 1969 BECAUSE OF REGGIE JACKSON AND THE HAPPIEST YEARS OF MY CHILDHOOD WERE WHEN THE A'S WON 3 IN A ROW. I SAW REGGIE PLAY IN PERSON TWICE, IN 72 AND 75, AND BOTH TIMES HE HIT TWO HOMERS. THE A''S WERE THE BEST TEAM OF THE MODERN ERA
I grew up in Oakland and Walnut Creek. I was spoiled rotten as a very avid Oakland sports fan during the seventies, with the A's winning three straight World Series, the Warriors taking the NBA title in '75, and the Raiders finally going all the way in the '76 season. I'm sixty-five now and live in the Dallas area, rooting for the Rangers in this WS. But those were indeed fun years back then.

At 31:05, Monte Moore talks about dinger night. Dinger was a slang term for a homerun. Monte Moore encouraged fans to bring bells to the game. We still have the antique cow bell that we rang at hundreds of A's games.
@@millypoo7713 Dick Green retired. He had threatened to do so for years, but this time he meant it. He knew Phil Garner was likely to replace him at 2B and had no desire to be a reserve, so he stayed in Rapid City and ran his moving business, which paid better, anyway. Dick Green, who turns 83 in April 2024, is still in Rapid, where he enjoys life and friends but keeps a low profile. He does attend A’s reunions, as that great team marks a half century since it ruled baseball.
Big A’s fan back then. Even when they were still in KC. I can still remember players names from that era, late sixties and early to mid 70’s. I was young and the A’s weren’t very good but they were my team. I’m from Texas and we had no MLB team back then. I had a sister living in Kansas so I picked the A’s after following the Yankees and Mickey Mantle in my younger younger years and got tired of them dominating year after year. I Remember when Rick Monday was taken in the draft as the # 1 pick by the A’s in the middle to late 66’s. And them trading Monday to the Cubs for Ken Holtzman. Great trade for the A’s.
I remember watching this world series back then, I was in high school living in Pacoima (Hansen Hills) CA, of course I wanted to see the Dodgers win and they let me down with their bungling ways in that world series
Alvin Dark came real close to pulling Dick Green. Thanks to Holt's clutch pinch hit, he left him in and the A's went on to 3peat. Green actually retired after the 73 series, but unretired just before opening game. He always batted 9th in the order and didn't do much with the bat but he and Campy made one of the best DP combos in Baseball.
He hit 8th in this game. Green was a good hitter when he was younger, but back trouble robbed him of his power. He held the franchise record for career home runs by a second baseman until it was broken by Mark Ellis, who like Green was from Rapid City!
I'm thinking it's supposed to be.... "LET'S GO A's" ... That's what I remember.... clearly a Mandela Effect... or maybe me... Great to watch the ole games!!!

Dodgers had stocky hitters with Jim Wynn, Davey Lopes and Ron Cey. A's catcher Ray Fosse towered over them at home plate especially the 5'8" Steve Garvey.
I don't understand why some people say that Pete Rose ruined Ray Fosse's career when he barreled into him in the 1970 ASG, here he is four years later looking pretty healthy.
He was a .300 hitter with power before that event. Ray retained his defensive skills but wasn't the same hitter after. Some people were referring to him as the AL's Johnny Bench. Rsy went on to become a long time A's announcer and just passed away recently.
I just read Jason Turbow's book called "Dynastic, bombastic, fantastic" It's all about Crazy Charley and the A's with primary focus on the three WS wins 72,73,74. The Reds and the Dodgers both say they were better teams. Nah. Not when you have a 7 game series!! The Dodgers, primarily Buckner and Joe Ferguson, said the "better team lost". They got waxed 4-1. That's an outright asswhippin. The amazing thing to me was the A's never drew more than 750k fans in any of their championship seasons. Most games played to 7-9k fans only. Wow. It's amazing looking at some of the pictures in the book seeing Reggie or Catfish with nothing but empty seats behind them. If you like BB (not today's lame baseball) this book is excellent

Dick Green was one of the very best defensive second basemen ever.
He never played another game in MLB after this World Series. Despite a spectacular defensive World Series, the A's released him March 6th, 1975.
