- It's not for everyone, but sometimes drawing can be an aid to prayer. Even if it's bad art, even if it's just matchstick figures, if it helps you to pray - do it. (If it becomes a distraction, stop.)

Abstract prayer art with Jesus. This is going to be messy but totally cool. All I need now is some finger paints and Elmer's glue.
I'm a newly Catholic but an artist. The hours I spend in art is up to a weeks worth and the bonus that I can pray during that?!
I needed this. Thank you.
As an independent portrait artist, I will surely try this out! I’m often contemplative when i work, often listen to Fulton sheen, homilies, and sometimes debates.
Thank you very much Father Columba
This is a great video. I always thought I had to make my Bible art pretty but now I realize it can just be stick figures to reorient my imagination towards Our Lord. Very helpful video. Please do more reflection and art videos! I love the art you do because it’s so simple and anyone can do it.
I think as an artist we can also draw others to God through our art. I remember back in 2008 when I moved to a larger city and had just finished work, whilst waiting for the train to arrive close to midnight I was just working on a illustration, I think it was a piece of nature like a tree on a hill. Some random guy walked past and said he feels like it brought him closer to God. Ever since then I've tried to make the prayer that whatever art I do would honour God and glorify him. We all know how perverse and corrupt art has become.
Love this!
May God bless you in your work!
@@j2muw667 thanks 😊
I did need your permission 😂. The social fabric here in America is like a sock that keeps losing its fibers in the wash cycle. The social fabric is barethin. With such tenuous relations it is rare to see someone communicate the complexity of prayer.
You've helped me see prayer not as a one edged knife but a dynamic process, like a conversation! I was formerly speaking to God while gesturing with a knife in my hands. Now im learning to gesture towards him, acknowledging his beckoning, with the movement of my heart.
Enjoy your descriptive way with words!!!
Beautifully said!
God bless you!
That "speak through me" story was epic not only in this meaning, but your delivery as well. Thank you Father!
Hello from foggy Hampshire,England!the weather depicted my brain today after a retreat weekend..This was SO Helpful!!Thank you!permisson needed to not be perturb by leaders human falities..but See Jesus behind them...Even the elderly priest that fell asleep during my confession😂😂
Thank you Fr. Columba. God bless you always 🙏.
Thanks for this 👍 I write poetry and through the writing & rewriting & rearranging I come to a better understanding of what God is saying to me. These conversations go deep and connect me with God, even moving me to tears sometimes. Poems are something concrete & rereading past poems I can see my understanding change and grow over the years. Sometimes I see, oh I’m a bit of an idiot here, and other times I think I couldn’t possibly have written this. At these times I think God guided the pen. I think using art we are made in the image & likeness of God, we are creators too. I like to think of my poems as a gift to God, a giving back. It’s all God really, but if you make the effort to show up & try, God brings out the beauty 🙏
I started drawing, watercolor painting journaling in my bible (journaling bible) love it! It really helps me to connect to our Lord. Thank you Father for confirming that this is another way to pray.😊🙏🏻
Yes i use art to pray
I really like this idea And I love the message of how Jesus speaks through imperfect vessels; even me 😮
I find your video messages amazing! I've watched so many since discovering them a few weeks ago.
Great topics, ideal length for a quick listen, and your conversational style combine perfectly! 🏆 Thank you for doing these!
Thank you Fr. Columba. God Bless
Art of faith 🙏🏻🌺
Love praying through art. Thank you for sharing these video. Greetings all the way from Sweden 🙋🏻♀️
I try to forget, ignore, look past, look around the human element of the Church. The sinful acts, the signs of the human desire for power and influence. But your phrase "The priest is just a veil"... that struck hard. I hate to say it's confirmation bias, but I *must* think of priests that way. They are leaders, guides, learned and mostly holy people. I respect them deeply, but they do not hold the very power of Christ (which is why I struggle with transubstantiation). Thanks again, Father Jordan.
Thank you. I pray a lot with my imagination but I tend to think sometimes that it’s not a legitimate way to pray. I’m going to try and remember what you - just to
pray in the way that connects me most to Jesus
Oh God bless you!! This is wonderful 💗
What a wonderful idea! I am definitely going to give it a try! Thank you so much!
Hello Father from California I listen to you everyday, thankyou for all you do on Called to More. As a Catholic all my life you help me in understanding what goes on with people in the world today and especially getting closer to Our Lord. God Bless you Father.
Art can be a lectio divina for the artist.
Fr Columba Jordan you move my heart
💙
Thank you so much for your words of wisdom and comfort Father.
i'm artist and love to draw, so when I saw the title, I couldn't wait. Thank you for, Fr. Columba. As Catholics, I would think it's an easier concept to use. We pry Infront of statues and paintings all the time.
I'm amazed at how many pocket the habit conceals! Draw us a diagram please Fr C??
Thank you for this video. I think you will like St JPII’s Letter to Artists
you're awesome. God bless
Profound idea thinking of JESUS as veiled behind the person you are seeing.... I need to *ponder* this like Sweet Mother Mary was always pondering 💙🙏💙
Thx for sharing this revelation of JESUS to dear Sor Faustina!
Hm, it sounds like a good idea worth trying. Thank you, Fr. Columba!
Love this Fr.
Art often easily draws me into God’s Presence, as does the Beauty of Nature which is God’s Creation the Greatest Artistic Expression… As also going to the Zoo seeing so many unique animals… ALL to me speak the Beauty and Creativity of God! Writing and using my imagination easily draws me nearer to God. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️
Love this! I do love to make art and consider it an act of contemplation or even worship.
We all have our imperfections. It takes a good character to acknowledge that and is willing to make some healthy changes etc. I know my heart is in the right place, and only want the best for other's.
Can we meet up sometime soon for a chat,
Fr Columba?
Please pray for me Father Columba I am broken.
Christ can heal you. Run to him!
Thank you Father.
@real Fr. Columba😂 You are a gem💎
Not sure if JESUS would have spoken theough some of my unbearably boring teachers throughout school ( who knows whose "veil" they might have been? but wish I'd known to invoke His help to get through the irksome moments throughout my school life😇🙏😇
10p for the picture, my final offer...
I never understood a person who shaved his head and grew a long beard. Can you explain that topic?
We did. Here you go: ua-cam.com/video/kGZcyeX8QhM/v-deo.htmlsi=etPEEuIpn_vA4WW7
Praying thought Art. Youi tricked me... I thought this was going to be about one of my favorite saints......Arthur of Glastonbury (c. 1539), Pray though Art!
