    Hi Delaney, I get it it's hard to multitask and you're promoting your other platforms if we want to hear from you, but boy oh boy, you SHOULD be on YT, it provides longer content, more personal touch and you are realy fun person to listen to AND learn from. You have something that is not boring to listen - the way you talk like to a friend. Your chanel will be huge sucess - I'm sure:) good luck in the future! Can't wait for more content here!:)

    OMG those TV easels! The only thing I see is a tripping hazard and the TV crashing to the floor. I absolutely feel the same claustrophobia with color drenching even though it looks lovely in some spaces.

    While I agree about the gilded frame or easel, there is another way to look at the frame tv. Not to disguise the TV because (news flash) you can still tell it’s a tv… but because you really like art in your space and this is a way to explore various artists and change it up all the time and make use of otherwise dead wall space. I change my art daily, not to impress anyone because nobody comes to my house, but to give me joy. Like lighting a candle or putting flowers in a vase.

    I totally agree with you on your points, especially the framed TV.
    My 50' inch TV sits on a media unit. Above it is a large framed poster. The media unit & TV are flanked by a tall floorlamp on the left side and a slim sideboard with a table lamp on top, on the right side.
    I don't feel the need to disguise the fact that we watch movies in our loungeroom. The TV is part of a focal point but not the focal point.

    Loved this! I largely agree with your points. There are so many choices that work in space A that just don't seem right in space B, even if space A is very beautiful. Good design is specific!
    The one thing I'd push back on is the practicality of highly patterned countertops. I think, as with your crumbs example, their busyness often acts as camouflage to mess (and more importantly stains!) which I find very appealing and would value more than a restful background. But tbf on my end this is all hypothetical. I'm currently renting and living with tan laminate countertops lol.

    It's so refreshing to hear a "design person" saying that: "yea, it's nice, but i'm scared to do it". Instead of creating bold pinterestic home you call yourself "safe" or I would just say - normal. Like rest of simple people trying to put together their homes.😃

    I follow and love the youtuber whose home you chose for the easel. I feel this is a bit mean-spirited as it was a creative and fun way to display a TV when your space literally doesn't allow for it.

    Ok. We need to spread the gospel of composite solid surface countertops. We re-did our kitchen on the cheap, but were unwilling to tolerate laminate/vinyl countertops. I found the cheapest solid surface option I could and it was white Formica brand composite from Lowe’s with an integrated sink and I LOVE IT. Like, you literally can see every drip and crumb, it is completely smooth and looks beautiful, you can clean it with any old product, and I have no idea why I’ve never heard anyone talk about it as a (cheaper!) alternative to natural stone. The white occasionally stains, but cleans up instantly with soft scrub. You also can’t put hot skillets on it like with granite, an impulse I’ve never had in my life. And don’t even get me started on the integrated sink- no grout, no gaps, no lip, just sweep everything off the counter right into it. #NotSpon 😂

    😂 I agree with all of this except the painting. Paint is the easiest way to be bold. If you don’t like it, you can always repaint.

    • @ssgg23

      I agree with this unless you’re painting over original wood trim. Once you paint over seems like it would really hard to go back. This it what I have in most of my house rn and I’m very reluctant to paint over the visible wood grain, it just gives a little bit of that Japanese wabi-sabi nature-inspired style of imperfection that is too precious lol

    That image of a TV on the credenza in front of a gallery wall is exactly how my bedroom looks, except all the paintings are of dogs, and the credenza is actually a dog crate 😅

    I feel like built in/oversized entertainment center cabinets are a good alternative for those who want to "hide" their TV. I remember having one in my childhood home in the 90s but they seem to have been left behind and overshadowed by the frame TV 😢

    Definately paint the trim!!! It’s funny because I’m not a maximalist at all and I think colour drenching and painting trim is far less risky than just a strong unanchored paint colour on my walls 🤔😂

    The pic of the tv on the credenza with art on the wall behind it -- that's my dream. The scale and layout are both so good, and they're not trying to hide or disguise the tv (whereas the frame tv feels kind of silly to me in this way). In keeping the tv off the wall they're also increasing the gallery wall real estate, which is a big win for me, personally.

    • @tremont_home
      @tremont_home  2 місяці тому +1

      actually this is such a good thing to think about - do you personally need more surface area or wall area? I actually prefer our tv mounted on the wall and not on the credenza bc I need more places to put my silly little trinkets lol

    Thank you very much for talking about the easel.... I don't understand.. it is soo random.. and so not cohesive to any living room... maybe a painter's studio.. but even then it would still look weird, because studio are messy and have that lived in and an organic in progress feeling.
    I don't know... there are so many ways to hind a tv. Just don't do the easel thing.

    I agree with all the points you make. I also hate the Frame TV. Imo it is the very definition of bad taste, namely to take an electronic equipment which serves a particular function and futilely try to disguise it as an object that serves a totally different function, ie a painting. Can’t think of anything more absurd and tacky. The cardinal rule of good design is honesty of material and purpose. This is why I also hate contact paper masquerading as tile or marble, laminate masquerading as wood etc. And don’t get me started on TVs propped on easels.

    Wtf even are all these Nike shoes, I have 5 year old 10 dollar sneakers from Walmart 😂. Anyways, better to go bold in small ways that really pop out in an otherwise comfortable space, like adding a funky frame to a picture, bright accent pillows that can be swapped out, etc, than create a room that is just overwhelming to live in, I think most people would agree with you!

  • @ellenowlin
    @ellenowlin 2 місяці тому

    oh my god i have THOUGHTS so long comment ahead, i am so sorry lol. but for your back entryway, the trim IS painted isn't it? it's just painted a white color. but it IS a color and it's not a stark white, iirc you've said it's a deeper white color. and like next to the dark wallpaper it's really light but i think you're right, the darker colors feel too dark. in the larger context of what you've shown of your home i think it makes sense to keep the lighter trim because the rest of your house is lighter, it would feel disconnected or too much or make the rest of your home maybe feel unfinished if all the trim elsewhere wasn't painted in wild colors. AND the wallpaper is meant to be the statement since you're making content about it for their brand, i think a different trim color would take away from it as well.
    also heeeeey fellow graphic designer!!! makes much more sense why i love your style lol i always end up finding people posting about other things i like and then they reveal they're a designer and i'm like of course you are, thats why your taste is so curated....
    oh and like on the really veined marble, all i've heard about marble is that it's a massive pain in the kitchen, it needs to be sealed otherwise it stains really easily. also like you see those beautiful pictures on pinterest and ig but all the kitchen stuff those ppl own is either 1) not on the counters or 2) boring as hell. oh also i've heard soapstone is not the way to go for kitchen counters either. too soft of a material supposedly. haven't heard as much about butcher block but i know it does require upkeep. i personally would wanna do like a concrete or something. also big agree we are all so visually into tile these days but the UPKEEP especially on a counter it is just not worth it. and like i'm just imagining running a wet rag over it and it snagging on the grout 🤢
    ALSO omg okay the frame tv!!! if anyone is gonna get one you better go into a big box store and talk to a salesman about it because i know they have opinions on it! and they'll tell you what i'm about to tell you: the reason it's so thin is because there's a separate box you get with it that houses all the normal tv internals!!! and you have to put that somewhere so your remote can access it. for the really nice flush mounting with no wires they also gotta like cut into the wall and route your wires behind it. they look beautiful but like they know ppl are concerned about the aesthetics which is why they priced it like that. it's essentially a really big flat monitor with a big ole console box that comes with it. i also hate the big gilded frames and the easels! both just draw more attention to the tv which is the exact opposite thing these people are wanting, isn't it?
