Anyone else feel that cari does such a good job explaining books like even with books she didn’t like i end up wanting to read it anyway because of how beautifully she describes them 😊
The truth is that I love the way that Cari explains each of the books, and it is so compelling that I have a list of books to read only from her recommendations. Not to mention that her voice is so calming, and basically I just think her videos are fantastic. (Sorry for my English)
I JUST FINISHED LEGENDBORN and it’s so INCREDIBLE I’m so obsessed and can’t wait to read the next one, as someone who lives in the south I thought the way she built up the atmosphere and the way that she talks about the buzz that Bree feels when walking into places she knows we’re built by slaves was so detailed and raw and real, i could talk about how much I loved this book for so long, the magic system was so fucking cool and the reveal sequence at the end made me gasp it was so fucking good
i just read legendborn and im absolutely obsessed with it (i dont want to pressure dear tracy, but i desperately need a sequel) and also i loved all the recs, its just what i need rn (we just got in autumn here in brazil, so this is perfect timing!)

I've recently read a sorcery of thorns based on your recommendation in the "based on your howgards house" video and I LOOOVED it soooo much!!!! Such a great story, and the characters are soooo good! Nathaniel stole my heart the moment he was first introduced! I got it in the english version (I'm German) and I'm so glad I did because the writing is so good and I'm not sure if all the nuances would have been captured in the translation! I'll get an Enchantment of Ravens next and will order the English version for sure!!! I started watching your reading channel after your "best books of 2020" video and it really made me want to read more 'actual' books.... it's not that I don't read a lot, but it is mainly manga! I just want to say thank you for your videos, the joyful way you talk about books makes me want to read more and explore new stories

I've been waiting for this video since I saw you finished Legendborn on goodreads which of course meant I picked it up asap! I have to agree with you on all points, especially the romance. The love interest seemed like a good enough guy but it all seems rushed (which is what makes me believe they may not be endgame or they might be having relationship troubles in the next book). I also started Sorcery of Thorns a couple of months ago but never finished it but this video and Ellias's recent video are making me want to pick it up asap!!
If you like book series that work as stand alone books I really recommend the series of the cemetery of forgotten books, especially the first one “The shadow of the wind”. They are all mysteries surrounding a huge library during the Spanish revolution and they take place in Barcelona. Btw I love your videos so much
I read The Historian exactly 10 years ago (just checked my Goodreads, and it was in March 2011) and I loved it so much. It was frustrating not being able to talk about it with anyone has it wasn't really a famous book, especially amongst teenagers. I'm so glad you love it as well, I feel our book tastes are quite similar. Thanks so much for the other recommendations!
Yes! The Historian is one of my very favorite books from my teen years and I didn't think anybody else knew about it, so it's so cool to hear someone like you recommend it. SO so good. One of my faves.

Truly Devious by Maureen Johnson definitely gave me Dark Academia vibes!! It's happening in a boarding school where each student is really really good at something. The main character is obsessed with murder/mystery stories, so she decided to try figuring out the double homicide/kidnapping that happened at the school many years ago.The school has underground tunnels, puzzles and riddles, it's quite interesting. Anywayyys, I suck at summaries, but yeah. Dark academia and interesting thriller, I liked it!

I just finished an interesting book called the man who was Thursday by G.K Chesterton. It’s kinda like a psychological/metaphysical thriller where this new policeman is asked to be a part of an undercover project to take down a really powerful group of anarchists in London. It’s set in the early 1900s and is very imagery driven and I just rlly enjoyed it!! As always, thank you for helping me to widen my horizons when reading books, and I think I will have to read murder on black swan lane, it sounds like it’s very much up my alley ☺️
i read the first book in the Tana French series you mentioned and omg, you really are in the novel!! it was so engrossing and it hurt to finish the book!! also just wanted to say, watching your videos always makes me more excited to read, your enthusiasm is so contagious!! i would love to be in real life friends with you, just all the reading, book talks, sipping coffee experiences would be amazing 🥺

By the way, The Secret History by Donna Tartt is the ultimate dark academia novel and is one of mye favourite books. It probably has most intriguing first lines I've ever read.

When you talk about a book like Legendborn, not just the narrative premise but also its genre-fusion element, I can't help but think that pursuing undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degrees in history or cultural anthropology can have its rewards. I've not read the book (but of course, now I want to), but it seems like just the very thing that a historian would write when they have scholarly writer's block. One thing leads to another, and bam, YA book. (if only it were that way more often in real life, but still). ^J^

I just started The Silent Companions and I think I would recommend Bone China by the same author. I mean it’s not the best I’ve ever read, but it definitely a eerie and creepy setting, with part of it dealing with ongoing panini in TB times gives a good parallel to tension we’re experiencing now.

I really loved Legendborn, it's amazing!!! I didn't read Tana French books, but I saw the tv show that was based on the 1st and 2nd books of the dublin murder squad series. The show is called Dublin Murders, it's a good show.
I’ll be reading Legendborn, since as a Welsh person I’m morally obligated to support any kind of international recognition of Wales 😂 But yeah, a King Arthur society in North Carolina, apparently Owain Glyndwr is buried in West Virginia (that’s where The Raven Cycle is set, right?), here I thought we were all in either Wales or Patagonia. Number 1 best Welsh book character is, of course, Wizard Howl. My boy ♥️

I LOVED The Silent Companions but I wasn't super scared by it.....but I DEVOURED it. I absolutely would NOT watch it if it was turned into a movie/mini series though. Absolutely not, I am such a baby when it comes to scary movies. Even though I know what happens in it I've felt like a draw to reread it, because it was fun to read. I actually picked it up after you mentioned it in your actually scary books video
Hi! I think I know you mentioned you had a hard time starting with The Secret History by Donna Tartt, but do try again! It’s really the EPITOME of dark academia, the type that “it walked so the others could run.” It’s beautiful and complex and just altogether wonderfully dark ☺️

if you love arthurian legend, totally check out the guinevere deception by kiersten white!!! it's a retelling from guinevere's POV, but she's actually a witch sent by merlin to protect arthur by posing as his wife (arthur does know). magic, mystery, and romance of course ensue, along with lots of fantatsic female characters and friendships between women!! also if you want dark academia, kiersten white wrote the dark descent of elizabeth frankenstein, an eerie, dangerous retlling of frankenstein from the POV of victor's wife, who was adopted by his family and raised to be his companion and struggles to reconcile his disturbing behaviors with her need to stay with the family to survive

I’ll be reading Legendborn, since as a Welsh person I’m morally obligated to support any kind of international recognition of Wales 😂 But yeah, a King Arthur society in North Carolina, apparently Owain Glyndwr is buried in West Virginia (that’s where The Raven Cycle is set, right?), here I thought we were all in either Wales or Patagonia.
Number 1 best Welsh book character is, of course, Wizard Howl. My boy ♥️

I'm currently reading the reign of shadows dualogy by sophie jordan and i instantly got hooked on the first page!
I LOVED The Silent Companions but I wasn't super scared by it.....but I DEVOURED it. I absolutely would NOT watch it if it was turned into a movie/mini series though. Absolutely not, I am such a baby when it comes to scary movies. Even though I know what happens in it I've felt like a draw to reread it, because it was fun to read. I actually picked it up after you mentioned it in your actually scary books video

Hi! I think I know you mentioned you had a hard time starting with The Secret History by Donna Tartt, but do try again! It’s really the EPITOME of dark academia, the type that “it walked so the others could run.” It’s beautiful and complex and just altogether wonderfully dark ☺️

if you love arthurian legend, totally check out the guinevere deception by kiersten white!!! it's a retelling from guinevere's POV, but she's actually a witch sent by merlin to protect arthur by posing as his wife (arthur does know). magic, mystery, and romance of course ensue, along with lots of fantatsic female characters and friendships between women!! also if you want dark academia, kiersten white wrote the dark descent of elizabeth frankenstein, an eerie, dangerous retlling of frankenstein from the POV of victor's wife, who was adopted by his family and raised to be his companion and struggles to reconcile his disturbing behaviors with her need to stay with the family to survive
By the way, Margaret Rogerson is coming out with a new book this September and it's called Vespertine!
