    This painting is one of my favourites and it really came alive when you added all the soft oranges. The weather is wet, wild and grey here in England so painting outdoors is delayed until the sun refinds us. However I hope I can produce something a quarter as good as this on my next attempt at plein air. Please keep sharing videos when you get a chance, they are really inspiring.

    Wow! I really like the way you work. Put it down and go for it.
    A brief tale. I happen to be in Japan on a animation project and on my time off, the head background artist there would get together and paint or sketch in the countryside, I thought.
    I took my paints, however, they all showed up with nothing, not even a pencil or pad. They sat there staring at the landscape for at least one hour. They did the same thing again. I asked them when we returned the third time, when were they going to start painting? They said they had the very first day we went out. I was a bit confused.
    Later, they honored me with dinner one night and there in their studio were the incredible scenes we went out to paint. I was told by the head artist his group never painted on location but remembered what was before them, went home, and sketched it out there. This way they were not distracted by detail, however, they remembered the shapes, forms, and darks and lights, plus where the sun was during the day. On the wall were the most unbelievable black and white sketches called "Notan". Once they made these sketches of the darks and lights and the forms were in place, the painting started. Yes, some of them went back to view the area we took in but, the bold shapes and color were the most important thing. It was mind blowing work with little detail. I just wanted to share this with you for sharing with all of us.
    Thank you,
    Phil Mendez

    These paint sessions are great! Keep it up as much as you can Turner. Teaching people how to paint correctly, with no fear or ego, is the best gift for a beginning artist. Also they are very calming and tranquil, which we all need a bit of right now. Cheers Man

    Hello Turner, I’m a new comer to your posts, I enjoyed what you did and how you did it. What I do appreciate, and you have that sense as well, but the understanding of warm and cool colours that the established artist display so well in their work. You use brushes solely I note, but it appears that you lavish the paint on your panel with pure abundance as though it be by palette knife. I like very much the effect.

    I could feel your pressure on this one, and maybe it was the size of the canvas. I used to start out with a 16x20 canvas when I did plein air painting but I was always chasing the light and could never finish a painting in 2.5 hours. I've now downsized to an 8x10. Haha This painting of yours did turn out to be very Gauguin-like, in my opinion. Nice job!

    • @turnervinson
      @turnervinson  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks, Linda. My pressure was really just for the video, I was trying to get as much done as possible. This is a normal size for me to work, but I'm not at all trying to finish in one session. I've put three more session in on that painting and still excited to get more work done on it!
