I loved the film! Katrina definitely stunned the audience. The incompleteness in this movie is the most charming aspect about ‘Merry Christmas’. Plus it’s high-time we should normalise slow burn thrillers instead of categorically calling them out as a demerit. The retro vibe is also a plus. The ending could’ve been better but hey it was a sumptuous ride anyway.

The end explained: it's very simple.
Ending is very clear, if u remember he said that he will stop carrying the ring incase he forgets Rosie. So in the end Maria replaces Rosie in his love life so instead of throwing it he puts it on her. Also this saves Maria and her worry if who will take care of her child incase she is proven guilty.
I donot think there is any loose end left in this movie unlike Andhadhun.

I was just mesmerized by the beautiful angel like presence of Katrina and innocent yet charming Vijay. I could have watched them for long. Loved the slow paced yet suspense, mysterious things unfolded at climax. The brilliant use of Teddy bear, Katrina setting fire to it in bakery oven and inspector telling a Bear story for getting confession to the last frame of Vijay setupatti sitting quietly like Teddy bear with legs. Loved it.

Both Andhadhun and Merry Christmas are poles apart and unique in their trait. This uniqueness of both of these thrillers makes Sriram Raghavan a Genius Filmamaker of our times ❤

Katrina will slay in Christian roles. English is her mother language afterall. I understand she can't slay in non English roles but those haters can't speak fluent English like her. She deserves Hollywood roles too. In Bollywood she's only taken as heroine. Merry Christmas Maria✝ is her kind of roles. Besides she has no ego. She's introvert and doesn't criticize.

Katrina Kaif definitely does know acting. what is an actor after all? a person that can convince you they are the character they are playing, and yes every single character she has convinced everybody she is that person she is playing. They are more different acting projects biopics where you mold yourself to be someone else see Sam Bahadur and see Sanju that's a point of reference they being someone real and you get convinced. However if you are not doing a biopic you are free to interpret the character in which way you want so yes Katrina Kaif is good actor.
SEE BAAR BAAR Dekho film Katrina Kaif did FOR EXPRESSIONS And see this Merry Christmas trailer SEE BHARAT FILM FOR hindi dialogues DELIVERY.
Katrina's dialogue in Merry Christmas "the one I loved is dead, and to him I am dead too, but I'm still here right?" I felt emotional on listening and seeing Katrina Kaif say this dialogue. I like Vijay's dialogue he said "violence is better than sacrifice" .
I liked the sequence of the bird flying out of the cage, and free. It's my wish for Katrina Kaif to be free to sign films with Ayushman Khurana, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Free from negative PR, just free to take Vicky Kaushal help and just free to focus only on her acting job.

The pacing actually worked wonders for me. It heightened the anticipation I had. It gave time and space for the characters to breathe and connect and the amazing chemistry between the two kept me completely hooked. I love films that are so sure about what they are trying to do. I hate people who call a film slow just for the sake of it and want some action right from the very beginning. I'd rather watch a slow paced film than a film that jumps from one scene to another just to show something without giving a fuck about whether the scenes are cohesive or not.

Just watched the film. While the premise was slow but kept me hooked, I was left underwhelmed by the ending, not because of the unanswered questions but just what the genius director could change and make the twist properly twisted - either bringing in some kind of fantasy-like elements or just twisting the kind of predictable move and make a Uno reverse on either of the lead characters! Or maybe we've just come to expect much more from a Sriram Raghavan movie especially post Andhadhun!

*Indian makers release every film in 5 languages. Along with this, they should also get every film dubbed in English. Whether the film is a hit or a flop. and that too by American voice over artists, instead of Indian voice over artists. (Like the Bollywood movie "The Archies" which was dubbed by American voice over artists, which was very good English dubbing.)*
*Because when English dubbing is done by Indian artists, it looks cringy and unprofessional (like the English dubbing of RRR). Because English is not the mother language of Indians, due to which foreigners are not able to connect while watching the film.*
*Filmmakers around the world (like Spanish, Korean, American, Norwegian and many more). get their every movie dubbed in Indian languages (specially Hindi). I have noticed this.*
*(Similarly, if Indian makers also get their films dubbed in other foreign languages, then at least in English (because English is an international language) only then will Indian films be seen all over the world)~*

I literally watched a review prior where that person hid the name of the novel from which this film is inspired and immediately here Jammy proceeds to reveal it 😂

  • @RASHISCAPE
    @RASHISCAPE 4 місяці тому

Thanks Jammy for stating the fact clearly to not compare it with Mr. Raghavan’s previous works and to just consider it as a completely different piece of work from his filmography!
I absolutely loved the movie.. there was a subdued lightness throughout the movie.. maybe just because of the performances.. even the smallest of the roles, were so effective.. exactly what I thought about Ashwini Kalsekar, she definitely killed it with her comic timing during the penultimate moments, while she said it all with a straight face (hard to understand if she was being sarcastic about her husband though😂).
And yes, just like you said and how others felt, the slow pacing was actually a merit for me.. because it made me anxious about what the characters are trying to hide exactly. The first half was all about developing the plot and Mr. Raghavan not even for once rushed the screenplay to increase the tension or give them a smashing interval block, just for the sake of it. The subdued first half rather raised the curiosity within me and kept me prepared for the revelations.
I loved how he kept the revelations to come out naturally. My jaws didn’t drop but i was in awe of how naturally the screenplay kept floating till the amazingly captivating penultimate moments. The final 10 minutes, with no dialogues and a symphony playing in the BG, just playing around with the expressions, was for me a masterstroke, done the typical Sriram Raghavan way.
It’s better to leave some questions unanswered and let the audiences think of different possibilities. Thriller should never try to spoonfeed everyone with answers and explanations.
It’s a thriller and it should keep you thinking, even hours after the movie ends.
Meanwhile, was Annie always mute or was just pretending all throughout?
What if Maria planned to trap Albert, to save herself and Annie?

I genuinely really liked and enjoyed the film. It had flaws, for sure, that keep it from reaching the heights of Andhadhun, but it still accomplishes something that is unique, intriguing and special.
It is really a shame, that it isn't doing well qt the box office. I know Andhadhun had a similiar start, but don't know if Merry Christmas will make as much money. We need some qualoty films to pull people back to the theatres.
