These are parental ragas- natural method. There are R1G1 raagas but not R1R2 G1G2 combinations. In Western there are those combinations. - R1 R2 G1 was then changed to be R1R2R3. - R3 was assumed to be diminished note of G1. G1 is asumed to be R3. Tamil/Sanskrit- Oogippu Swaram. R1 R2 R3 G1 G2 G3 (3+3 = 6 combinations) D1 D2 D3 N1 N2 N3 (3+3= 6 combinations) 6x 6= 36 combinations for M1 36 combinations for M2 36+36= 72 Ragas (Parental- Melakartha Raagas) Each Parental Melakartha Raagas (72) has Janya raagam(s) which are different combinations for Arohanam and Avarohanam.

Melakarta is Same as thaat in Hindustani But Hindustani only has 10 Thaat but Carnatic have 72 That's why if you observe You can find out that Why south indian Singers are performing Far better than Hindustani Singers Because Carnatic is So scientifically made
