    Why do so many people excuse the bad behavior of younger people, just because they are younger? They still have brains, and they know what they are doing is wrong. Am I not understanding something, is it really a thing that some teens are actually unable to have any form of empathy or common sense? Fell free to inform me if I'm wrong about something here.

    • @xition25
      @xition25 7 років тому +33

      Because their brains are different from an adult. Psychologically they are still in development, and while that doesn't mean they should get off without consecuences, it does mean that they shouldn´t be judged as a 30 year old or 40. Teens do not have their brains fully matured so they tend to do stupid stuff (stealing from the supermarket, falling into peer pressure, etc). Basically we are talking about an immature brain. Of course individual differences matter in these cases (girls tend to mature faster than boys) but this is pretty much the main argument when it comes to applying the law to people below 21 (this number depends on the country though)

    • @kelly714
      @kelly714 7 років тому +60

      Okay, first of all, I completely agree. I'm a teen (I turn 16 in about 2 weeks) and I think it's ridiculous how people think teens should be let off for their actions just because of how many years they have existed on this planet. It's not like they're a toddler who can't fully grasp the situation. Teens still have the ability to think, contemplate their own actions, and reflect too. If they're going to do something wrong, they _know_ they're about to do something wrong, and it simply can't be written off just because "they're a minor". Yes there's the argument that our brains haven't fully matured and we do stupid stuff as a result, but that doesn't mean we don't acknowledge that what we're about to do is wrong regardless. Some teens still do it anyway. It's that acknowledgement that leads me to believe that our actions shouldn't be excused just because of our age. I believe that the sooner some teens realize that their actions have consequences and their age isn't a safety-shield for them, the better, and people excusing their actions purely because of their age isn't helping at all.

      May I also weigh in and say I read a recent study where the results showed the more testosterone in the system the more impulsive and less logical become the actions. This doesn't excuse his behavior at all obviously, just gives a little more insight to the situation.

      teens do not possess the wisdom of a developed brain.
      a brain that tells you...NO, YOU SHOULDN'T BODY SLAM THAT OLD LADY, YOU WILL GET ARRESTED.
      a brain that tells you, NO, YOU SHOULDN'T DRINK AND DRIVE, YOU MIGHT KILL SOMEONE, AND END UP DEAD OR IN JAIL.
      a brain that tells you, YES, PUT ON THAT SEAT BELT, AND KEEP THE SPEED LIMIT, AS YOU ARE NOT IMMORTAL.
      *Results may vary, didn't factor in stupidity*

      cH33zewarri0r What the UN says is not what is inherently true. I would argue that the only true rights you have are life, liberty, and property. While the UN argues several other things are rights. I would point out that making things other than those as basic as life, liberty, and property: you imply that everyone has the right to another's services, even if that means getting that service at gun point.

    Phil, I'm not sure if it's something you'd do but I think it would be interesting. In Indonesia, they just had one of the biggest court cases in the whole of Asia. I'll break it down but basically, certain sections of the government got caught for corruption and they had stolen almost 590 million dollars (from a 3rd world country where people are starving). This was all caught from a guy called Ahok. He's been Anticurroption for years and he was seen as the first and only person to bring real change to the country. He wont even accept donors to his campaigns. So he was huge in the government and famous for Anticorruption. He decided to run for head of Jakarta (like being Mayor of New York). He was winning the election 3/1 until the last month when all of a sudden, this magical problem arised. Because he's Chinese and Christian (Indonesia is a Muslim nation) the opposition said "Muslims aren't allowed to vote for a Christian". He responded and said "Don't let him trick you, you can vote for whoever you want".... yea, they then arrested him for "Blasphemy". The arrest happened yesterday. There's a lot more crazy details about how every judge was threatened to be killed if they didn't send him to jail, there were over five thousand radicals outside the court and so on. I'd love to see if someone from another country with a big audience could talk about it. No-one in Indonesia is able to talk about it for fear of repercussions.

      From Newsweek:
      "This is bad news for Indonesian minorities," [Andreas Harsono of Human Rights Watch] said. "If someone like Ahok, the governor of the capital, backed by the country’s largest political party, ally of the president, can be jailed on groundless accusations, what will others do?"

And state-controlled media don't talk about it, in fact less than a half of population even heard about Navalny.

    Is it my imagination or are the republicans in the federal government crazy. Why replace something that works with something that doesn't. For instance, net neutrality works, why want to take it out of it's title II regulations is beyond me. The same thing with the AHCA or Trumpcare, don't discard the whole ACA or Obamacare. My whole thoughts for the federal government: If it doesn't work, fix or replace it. If it works leave it alone or update it.

Regardless of age, I think we've all been taught to keep our hands to ourselves. Airport seems like a shitty situation that just got worse. Mob mentality and a lot of people have travel anxiety and being in the airport is part of that. Emotions are high, and you add more people to that. They probably should have had security on sight to ensure everyone stayed orderly. Yeah those people may have been mishandled (I couldn't quite tell from the clips). And yes, I've actually researched net neutrality from a political stand point. If you look at rural areas, there already is a monopoly, which does not encourage good service I might add. Sometimes competition has to be stimulated, because monopolies end up providing poor service because they no longer have to care as people don't have other options. Net neutrality needs to remain

    • @patrickobermiller
      @patrickobermiller 7 років тому +1

      Net neutrality is the governments way of slowing down internet speeds. Compaines like youtube should have to pay cable companies to help build infrastructure they use. You think all this band width is free for cable companies. And if youtube doesnt pay we will see it reflected in our monthly bills. Nothing like corporate welfare right?

    • @GingerbreadFetus
      @GingerbreadFetus 7 років тому +2

      Patrick I have a hypothetical for you. Since this could be framed as an argument about the free market and deregulation.
      If a person starts a web-based company that directly competes with Comcast's interests either in TV, streaming, or otherwise, does Comcast have the right to slow, throttle, or completely stop the flow of information from that business? Because if you make that a law, which is what this rule change is essentially about. Then you are not deregulating the market, you are simply giving the access of government force over to a corporation.
      But I do believe there is something to be said about deregulation of the internet. But it isn't net neutrality that is slowing things down. It's the Telecommunications act. (Among other things. But the Telecommunications act is arguably one of the largest obstacles.) As it is right now, the telecommunications act requires a entry-level competitor to cooperate with local utilities and phone companies. Which coincidentally have their own internet service providers or cable companies. This drastically aids monopolies. Oddly enough, I don't think it was changed in 2005 when they amended it.

    • @patrickobermiller
      @patrickobermiller 7 років тому

      So your answer to improper regulation is more regulation? Why should we add more on top rather than remove that problem too. Ill admit im not familiar at all with these laws on internet or the telecommunications act but if its helping monopolies it should go too. While your hypothetical is a compelling one the problem does seem to be more of government stepping in rather than companies doing dirty things. Also if you pay the fee for the faster speed and they do not let people go to your site then they should be sued. You can probably sue them for restricting access to your competing corporation for loss of sales too. It would not be hard to show a sales loss of before and after a company blocked your website. That is a deliberate action designed to harm your business akin to someone blocking a parking lot. There are also more ways to advertise than just the internet. Good businesses focus on service and customer satisfaction more than they do cutting out competition and using the feds to accomplish it.

    We need net neutrality! The regulations that are in place should not be changed! We are moving toward a United States of America governed by the wealthy for the wealthy. I suppose that the rest of the U.S. citizens will be able to catch the crumbs that will inevitably trickle down from the overfilled, overstuffed arms and pockets of the wealthy multinational citizens united (corporations). How fortunate everyone will be to scramble and compete for those falling crumbs. We are nearing the anniversary of the great depression and it looks as though we're headed for a repeat. "Net Neutrality" is a sham. "Free and open Internet" is just a marketing term to get you to swallow the chilling travesty of allowing the federal government to seize control of the Internet by defining it as a public utility. I love the Internet too, but we're heading in the direction of China and even the UK if we allow the government to own the Internet (and that's exactly what happened with the title 2 classification). Equal Internet speeds are not a right, nor are they even possible to obtain, as every online service has different needs as far as bandwidth goes. Big corporations like Google and Verizon SUPPORT net Neutrality for the same reason Monsanto supports the EPA: when the government has more power over the marketplace, the more influence big corporations have to twist the market to their ends. This ensures a stagnant, overpriced market and destroys freedom for the consumer and for potential new competitors.

    All I know is my ISP just upgraded (doubled) my speed for free as of yesterday. It suggests to me, foresight of competition probably was the driving force behind this decision. People will want faster internet for low or at least no extra cost. BLADE RUNNER 2049 looks great! I gotta see it! Loved the book (original entitled Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Phillip K Dick), and the original movie, and now have great hopes for its sequel

    With the airplane thing
    I get it that it sucks ass to have your flight cancelled or delayed several hours (I once had a flight that was delayed 12 hours) but that doesn't justify getting violent and hostile to the other people who are having just as shitty a time as you are. It doesn't help. And once the cops show up, thats the time when you need to calm down and remove yourself from the situation. No one there wants to fight or wants things to escalate (including the cops) so people should just try and keep calm and wait.

    Honestly, not only do I think that Net Neutrality and Title 2 classification for ISP's is of utmost importance, but I think they need to have the near monopoly that exists most places torn down. In most areas you don't really have a choice of cable internet provider, you get whomever has control of your patch of land, and if you want anything different you have to go with a completely different medium. If there's one available.

    It's not hypothetical! It happened. We had t-mobile, and other cell services saying you can watch "this content" an it doesn't count toward your monthly data limit. It happened between Netflix and Comcast. There are actual examples, and it's incredibly important because there are so few options for ISP's in so many places.

    I think that "kid" (which hes not a kid anymore if he's a teen), should get punished somehow. You can't learn from your mistakes if you never think you made one. He should have to help out the community. 150 hours of community service sounds reasonable for almost putting that human in a wheelchair for the rest of their life. Maybe even more than 150.

      Jackey Mittens, thats why I said "Maybe even more than 150". I'm not a prosecutor, so I don't know what someone would get for a crime like this. I figured, thats almost 4 full time work weeks. Thats just my bare minimum sentence too.

    I still haven't heard any argument against Net Neutrality that would justify changing it. FCC Chairman called Title 2 protection against hypothetical threats. So basically a dam in an area where it hasn't flooded in a while. He thinks we should just tear down the dam so we people don't have to climb that dam, while most people living behind the dam fear that there will be a flood eventually and then they'll need that dam.

    The kid is a monster, not just a POS. Your 16, you have enough sense to know not to hurt people, but more importantly you shouldn't want to hurt people. Especially a little old lady with her little dogs who came to ask you to turn the music down. There is no excuse for this, the kid needs to be charged with assault, animal cruelty, and all the other shit that goes along with this.

    I don't understand what's so difficult about hearing your flights been cancelled and saying "oh. Hmm. That sucks, well I'll go get a refund and book a new flight!"
    Get a damn book and have a seat, wait a little bit. In this age of instant gratification, the slightest inconvenience causes "riots" (I'd say they're more like temper tantrums) like this, and it's sickening to see how immature, irresponsible and disrespectful some people can be.

      More naked bodies than Playboy TV! Though most of the very, very few you'd normally want to see would be in situations you wouldn't want to see them in. But lots of work for pixelization experts. Though they'd need recovery weeks every so often, in between sessions with staff psychologists.
