- It's something many cities are trying to figure out in a post-pandemic world. How to bring people back downtown? A new study says downtown Minneapolis has had one of the worst post-pandemic recoveries in the nation.
Lol maybe address the out of control crime
crime in downtown is not out of control... sorry the statistics in 2022/23 vs 2019 don't show this to be the case. BUT employers havent forced workers back and that is the main problem.
@@johnk2347 Reality vs what's not reported.. When my cat was cut off, I didn't report it because what's the point?
@@johnk2347 yea pretty easy to IGNORE the crime... then Statistics wont SHOW any crime.... see how that works?
@@axehandler114 why call the cops when they don’t respond? So fewer people reporting crime = less crime so the Chamber of Commerce president is happy.
@@mbmochinski you're making my argument for me :)
"crime is a misrepresentation" so why do all my police officer friends tell me that if I'm downtown I should be using my conceal and carry permit and be armed at all times.
If Minneapolis is so safe then why are law enforcement shortages so high for the city.
Minneapolis will never be as safe as it was before the riots of 2020
If crime is a misrepresentation then why do businesses keep closing downtown because of crime?
You are right, but nothing will change until a major leadership overhaul occurs with the politicians who have been and are currently in charge. That will never happen though because of the mindset of the majority of people who actually get out and vote. Denying the reality of things by the media and politicians doesn't help either by always saying "civil unrest " instead of calling it rioting and looting, which it actually is and was. IF things ever were to even appear to start to change politically, all the millennial cry babies who only know how to throw fits and break things when they don't get there way would be back on the streets rioting and looting and disrupting. The media would be right there supporting them with there spin on it too. Never going to change.
the only place I've ever been randomly attacked was in the burbs by a redneck with 5 teeth...
Notice people like yourself never have any interest in being "tough on " the poverty and economic despair that is the main factor behind that crime according to 99% of American academics
Downtown Mpls has been imploding for years...ever since the Mpls City Council gave "Block-E" back to the street urchins.
The crime rate rose and two of the largest tenants got their people out of there. The shell is whats left.
Yea , go back during covid n George Floyd,.. what really cost MN to low 66 .
Not much left to go to Downtown Minneapolis for theses days other then sports and concerts! Otherwise it is a pretty hollowed out downtown area.😂
🤣😅🤣 I remember when the news were saying Minnesota has recovered from covid.
Yup, I remember too. Guess they were lying to us?
Lying is what they do and it still continues day after day.
Your not safe in democrat town, where mayor burns down police station.
And build shrines for criminals who overdose
Yes and the supposed Governor.
Democrats made downtowns dangerous
No Trump made America dangerous
lol...this is all the Democrats fault. Put criminals in jail.
You literally just reported things were much better. LMAO
😅🤣🤣😅
Yup, it can't be both. Why would they lie to us?
Crime hypocrisy
I work downtown everyday. And its a depressing place having experienced downtown back in thrbearly to mid 2000s.
I doubt minneapolis will ever come back. Most bars and restaurants are closed 4 or 5 days a week.
I Love My State .
Overbuilt commercial space. Outrageous residential costs. Crime concerns. Different consumer shopping trends. All have hurt Downtown Minneapolis. Downtown St.Paul is even worse. Best options are to give tax breaks to larger employers and develop some truly affordable apartment buildings along the edge of downtown. It's going to be tough.
We need new ways of living. Embrace the new ways of life. Stop forcing people into the city for the economy.
Sorry, Downtown in my eye is the whole of the area West of the river, then follows 35w to 94 on its way to just short of Broadway.... It is a big downtown, but not that tiny section they studied.
Gee wonder if GF bs had anything to do with this
this is not accurate if they're not including the convention center or the stadium!
Are we still blaming this on covid? Really, we all know the real reason, Walz, Frey , and Ellison.
We all know why its dead, stop acting like its a mystery.
Bring housing downtown.
You’re joking right? They’ve built too many condos and apartment buildings downtown. No one wants to work downtown anymore and crime really isn’t that good downtown, and Restaurants have closed, so who wants to live downtown?
@@mbmochinski Young millennials 😂 that wanna blow money on rent. I’ll keep my house in the burbs as an older millennial that had common sense to buy after the last recession started clearing up in 2012. 😂
I wouldn't live downtown if the rent was free
@@mbmochinski What "too many"? The rent here is probably the most expensive in the Twin Cities area. The north loop is where all the new restaurants are.
