I met Cotto just prior to the revenge fight while on cruise. We basically were at the same spot for a week and Cotto would be at the $5 table with me playing poker / blackjack (he was a $15mill prizefighter at this time). I didn't know who was at first, but we had on the same watch, and started talking. A quiet, very nice, humble fella. Never bragged, and I only found out who he was after a few days when someone in the casino realized who he was and then he was swarmed by fans. He chilled with his kids all day, we did some tours together, seemed like a wonderful husband and father. Never used his celebrity for anything. I was soooo happy when he got his revenge on that fucker.
Was such a damn shame about Billy Collins. Dude was getting the hell beat out of him because Resto's gloves not only had some padding taken out but plaster put in. He was tough as nails to keep that fight up for as long as he did
I always felt like Cotto’s loss to Margarito should have been struck from his record because the very next fight is when Margarito and camp got caught.
It wasn’t cocaine for the Aaron prior fight... Resto did an interview and stated that Panama Luis used to use albuterol crushed up in the water, this is inhaler medication, giving Aaron Prior the wind he needed to finish that last round like he did. You’re welcome.
It was Those old Primetine tablets they use to make for asthma. I don't even think they make this anymore but they used to have those tablets that worked. My childhood friend used to pop those when he would have an attack.
@Michael T Why would you? The process is more complex than just dumping a bag of coke into water and drinking it. Why go through all that when you just wanna get high? Got a dollar bill? Got a nose? So what's the hold up? Jokes aside, in the early 1900's doctors used cocaine elixirs to treat patients for pain and other common ailments. Coca-Cola used to contain cocaine, and was created in part to be an alternative to morphine. It was quite common for cocaine to be ingested as a liquid for medical purposes...way back before it was listed as a narcotic. I'm not saying it was or wasn't cocaine...but cocaine can absolutely be liquified and drank. It wasn't always used strictly to get high.
Cotto vs Margarito 2 is the first and only time I rooted for a Puerto Rican. It’s a great rivalry when it comes to Mexico vs Puerto Rico both come to fight.
0:53 Panama Al used a mixture with asthma medication to Pryor that gave him a boost to KO Arguello, not cocaine. I’m glad Al Lewis is banned from corner work.
Crazy how they’re able to put someone else’s life on stake like that... fighting already takes a toll but with plaster in the wraps i can’t even imagine
One of my best friends is from Puerto Rico and I went over there to watch Bernard Hopkins vs Trinidad....they had the whole house draped in PR flags....my buddy and I had American flags and did Laps around the house chanting USA,USA, USA, after Trinidad lost
Nah, rogan obviously left out that luis resto had loaded his gloves along with removing his padding. Rogan just said he removed the padding which is only half true.
That wasn’t cocaine that was in the water bottle given to Aaron Pryor. Just like you said, Panama Lewis was Aaron Pryor’s trainer and he also trained Luis Resto. It was Resto who shed some light on what was in the water bottle. And the reason that Resto knows this is because Panama Lewis also gave the substance in the water bottle to Resto during his fights. That special substance that was in the water bottle was asthma pills that Panama Lewis would crush and then throw into the water bottle. Not sure which pills exactly, but they were definitely asthma pills. They would help with opening up the lungs and helping you breath a lot easier. Resto admitted this to me personally, as well as on a HBO documentary that was done on Resto called “Assault in the Ring”
Miguel Cotto is my all time favorite boxer. Tough, classy, humble, and intelligent. His second fight vs Margarito was very emotional. I watched it with my whole family and we were so happy he got his revenge on that scumbag that most of us were in tears hugging each other. Ponce PR 🇵🇷🇵🇷 Philadelphia PA 💪🏼💪🏼
I remember watching that first Cotto fight. I never seen anyone just walk Cotto down like that. I guess knowing that he had loaded gloves gave him like super confidence. Cotto was a devastating puncher and Margarito just walked through his punches like nothing.
The person theyre talking about is boxer luis resto that loaded his gloves against irish boxer billy collins jr. Unfortunately collins jr was sent to his death and his career ended after that cheat resto fight.
What do you mean? After that fight Cotto excelled . He grouped up with Manny Pacquiao and trained with him. His speed was fantastic after changing camps. Look up their rematch he moves like a fucking featherweight dancing around Margarito.
I think what really ruined Cotto's career, he began to focus to much on being a technical fighter, and stopped being the body destroyer he used to be. If you watch, you will notice that later in his career, he stopped throwing as many body punches, and began to aim more for the head. He used to stop people with one punch to the body, that was what made him so vicious. Once he began to be more of a boxer, rather than a brawler he lost something. Cotto was my most favored fighter back in the day.
The real sad story was the Luis resto vs billy Collins jr , dude took all the padding and loaded his gloves with plaster damaging Collins so bad he was forced to retire , after a few odd jobs and becoming an alcoholic he died in a car crash , resto would only admit to his wrong doing years after that day
Miguel Cotto took that loss like a man.. Hes so so humble that Mayweather had to convince him after that situation that he was still undefeated.. Not to mention that Mayweather said after his fight with Cotto that Cotto was his toughest oponent 🇵🇷 Esa bandera estuvo bien en alto gracias a ese varon, orgullo boricua puñeta
Resto & his team removed the padding AND wrapped his hands in plaster. There’s an old HBO documentary still on YT breaking it all down. Collins’ trainer discovered it in the ring after the fight shaking Resto’s glove, felt how hard it was so he pulled on it and it almost brought Resto to his knees from hurting so badly. Crazy fucking story.
It wasn't proven that he did it for the Cotto fight. It wasn't until he fought Mosley in his following fight that he was caught loading his gloves. But because he was caught cheating against Mosley and Mosley kicked his ass completely dominating, it is safe to assume that he cheated against Cotto.
I remember telling my father that Cotto looked like he was hit with a bat during that fight. Cotto was infamous for bruising badly, but that was next level stuff.
Yeah I remember my friend was a huge Margarito fanboy and thought he was the next big thing. Especially after the Cotto fight, then the Shane Mosley fight happened and he got exposed as a cheat. My friend did a 180 so quick and wanted everyone to beat his ass. He paid for the next two pay-per-views for Margarito Vs Cotto II and Margarito vs Pacquiao.
Was a sad night man...will never know if he cheated that night....but I consider it like this...if Margarito would cheat or attempt to against an at the time wrongfully but widely regarded/perceived"underdog" 38 year old Shane Mosley who all experts and fans expected Margarito to demolish that version of Mosley....and im sure Margarito himself thought hed whoop Mosleys ass......if Margarito would cheat vs a guy he and everyone else thought had zero shot and was a massive underdog....isnt it also fair to speculate hed have cheated against guys who were seen as equal prime rivals in say his 2-3 previous fights? I personally think there is a high probability Margarito used those plaster wraps against both Paul Williams-who still beat his ass lol-and also Cotto in the first fight....Cotto was having the dan fight of his life to man...but suddenly the 2nd half Margarito slow plodding punches were like getting hitr by a truck and Cotto just looked terrible....but Margarito I mean they cant be that bad theres no way...i think anyways..hed have cheated and gotten away with that going back to 2000 whyen he knocked out a pre prime very young and green version of Sergio martinez....so hes always had slow hands but heavy hands....but because what happened its safe to think he likely cheated in the first Cotto fight...and also I think personally against Williams...Williams beatr his ass won 8 clear rounds...but in the 2nd half same kinda shit as the first Cotto fight....Williams was out landing Margharito in each exchange like 8 punches to 2....but every time Margarito would land you could visibly see the impact it had on Williams...just like with Cotto the 1st fight....so very suspicious...will never know and even if he took a lie detector test guys probly a low end sociopath and would pass it anyways lol,but its very fair to speculate or even assume the worst for sure.....and your right while Cotto did go onto do a few more great things and add to his legacy,he was never quite the same...
Cotto would have won the first fight if the gloves didn’t have his face come apart in the end of the fight. He was undefeated at that time also I believe. Glad he got some get back on Margarito in the end. Also manny smacked his eye, was karma
It was never in the investigation. They never collected the tape with the plaster. He admitted it to Billy Collins widow. That's how we know about the plaster
Joe is spot on. Margarito was caught just before the Shane Mosley fight. Shane's corner caught Margarito using plaster in his wraps, and then Shane kicked his ass. This sparked the entire controversy with Cotto as Cotto stated it felt like he was being hit by a hammer.
@@kingslickster9841 well because margarito went into the 2nd cotto fight badly injured to the point that the NY commission was not going to allow him to fight but his dictor eventually convinced them he was ok. felix trinidad was also known to have used suspicious wraps when he fought fernando vargas. the issue was so big that even bernard hopkins refused to fight trinidad until the issue was further investigated and resolved
No suspicious wraps at all, the acussations were the way the taped his hands, the wrapping of the tape is different in certain states and where the fight took place the wrapping trinidad was using wasnt allowed so they made him re tape his hands and the fight went on, not the same as finding plaster of paris in between the taping and removing it
Bullshit, that was just fighters who lost to Tito trying to explain why they lost. Hopkins was a dirty fighter who constantly hit fighters low on the side of the thighs, Tito never used illegal wraps, he just had tremendous power.
@arrowakano let me guess, you also feel that trinidad beat de la hoya, despite de la hoya outclassing him for 8 rounds and then just coasting the last 4? ;)
Dont forget tito trinidad low blowing vargas at least 4 times on that fight, low blows can seriously change the dynamic of a fight. Last time i got hit in the balls, it made me vomit, any man will tell you how bad it is. Joppy and other old time boxers also said on record that something was off about titos left hand as it felt like beign hit with a literal rock. Smh
That was more then just a fight when cotto came back to beat his ass.Cotto just stared right at Margarito at the end of the fight just to let him know that they both knew deep down inside what the truth was. It was so epic.
I believe the bottle contained liquid Albuterol which is an asthma medication that dialates the windpipe to allow for more oxygen to be taken in and allows it to get into the bloodstream faster and to the brain quicker making it possible to get less winded while fighting, I could be wrong but im almost positive that was the conclusion
Yeah, damn right pacquiao messed him up. I still remember that fight. By then margarito was almost universally hated because I believe that was after the whole cotto loaded gloves situation. Everyone was thinking that it would be too much for pacquiao because of the size difference. Margarito fought several weight classes above pacquiao and pacquiao is really short as well making the size discrepancy appear even more pronounced. But ol pac-man absolutely wiped the floor with him that night. It was just incredible to watch.

Was the plaster inside the wrap? Inside the tape?
