I'll be honest. THIS. I mean this is a fantastic video, even your Jim Cameron's Spidey video as well.
I feel this was well looked into researching lot of info. And I can sense Joe Zito's comments of his shocked reaction on the slashed budget was from my interview with Zito (which was a complicated process to go through, but it was easy setting it up through his wife, Bobbi - although it was a wonderful interview).
And I'll be honest about the takes on a Spidey film.
    They're vastly interesting to learn.
Steve Krantz's take. Oy vey. Way off, haha. I know I did get a chance to access Silliphant papers to which I read his Spider-Man treatments, and it had a robot in it, no Nazis btw, but though the two treatments by Silliphant were awful. Not good. I love Silliphant for Silent Flute, In the Heat of the Night, Towering Inferno, but Spidey - terrible.
Leslie Steven's. Intriguing premise. But not for a first Spidey film. But good for a solo horror film if Cannon made it.
Stan Lee's treatment/outline (51 pages). I love Stan a lot. But his treatment was so way off imo, haha. Good if it can turned into a comic book like William Gibson's Alien 3.
Ted Newsom & John Brancato. Nothing to say about it. Only the words I can say. Absolutely lovely and brilliant. I remember reading it many times and still love it.
Barney Cohen (April 1, 1986 draft) - Okay, but a terrible script.
Shepard Goldman/Albert Pyun - Not that good. And you can see the many omitted stuff on the pages shows the struggle that Cannon, even Pyun were going through their best to make a Spidey film. By the way, R.I.P. - Albert Pyun...
Menahem's (Joseph Goldman) rewrite. Definitely stupid as heck. Ock gets bitten by a spider and when he kidnaps Liz, telling Spidey that he is the true Spider-Man.
Frank LaLoggia's treatment. I look back. I liked it at first. But looking back, it's cool, but way off with Pete and Liz cross-dress, way weird.
Scott Leva & Steve Webb's script. According to what Scott told me - it was not for Cannon, but it was only written as a spec script. But though, it's a spectacular (no pun intended) script ever written that could've been turned into a audio drama like Dennis Etchison's adaptation of Stephen King's The Mist and William Gibson's Alien 3.
I'm glad when I was a teenager, which I look back and it was so wild, that I would research a lot into the history of Spidey in Film.
Glad to get Ted Newsom (who unfortunately isn't with us anymore, but he was a wonderful friend on Facebook back in 2015, but very wise, even humorous) and Scott Leva for my podcast in 2016. I did interview Neil Ruttenberg in 2017 but only I could amount to excerpts in my channel. And I was gonna get Zito for my 2016 podcast, but never got the reply from messaging his FB. And once last year I got a chance to call Zito's number, his wife picked up and we talked, and I found out that Zito didn't had a FB. So that was surprising, but she was willing to set up a interview and I did the interview with Joe in late-August, and it was 2 hrs long. Cut it down to 1 hr and 52 mins. Had sent it to them to get it approved than just releasing it. They both loved it - but Joe had suggested something to which I felt the way I cut it is the best way I had to do. It may had to do with my first question to Joe, to which in the final version I trimmed the introduction to myself asking the first question. But though, it was a wonderful interview still.
    Anyway of long talk, haha...
To the fellow who runs Supervoid Cinema. Fantastic job on the video!!!

You know what back then in the 80’s Cannon films should not own the rights for Marvel’s Spider-Man Movie 🎥 in the 80’s but in 1985 Roger Corman should been a Producer of the first live action marvel’s Spider-Man movie 🎥 from the 80’s but this was long before Tobey Maguire Andrew Garfield & Tom Holland I mean back in the 80's that he should made a First Marvel's Spider-Man movie when he fought Dr Doom (just like in the comic books) but they will be some casting choice like Christopher Atkins as Spider-Man/Peter Parker Jennifer Runyon as Black Cat/Felicia Louise Fletcher as Aunt may Michael Caine as Uncle Ben Catherine Mary Stewart as Mary Jane Don Murray as Jona Jameson Billy Dee Williams as Robbie Robertson Richard Gere as Agent Nick Fury and Jennifer Beals as Black Widow & even the Bad guys are going too be played by great 👍 late actors like Bodybuilder late David prowse as Dr Doom late Raul Julia as the Voice of Dr Doom Miles O’Keefe as The Scorpion late Andre the giant as The Rhino Mark hamill as the Green Goblin John Travolta as The Lizard Michael Berryman as The Vulture Paul Clemens as Arcade and Martin Hewitt as Flash Thompson/Tarantula Monster 👹 Even the Filmmakers Choice like Directed by Sean S Cunningham (who made the first Friday the 13th movie 🎥 with Jason’s mom in it) Producer by Roger Corman (the king of Low budget movies) executive producer by Stan Lee & Albert Pyun Make up artists by Dick Smith Creature effects by John Carl Buechler Stop Motion animated sequence by Phil Tippett special-effects technician by Greg Jein Visual effects by Richard Edlund & Jon Berg production designer by William Sandell music by Wendy Carlos screenplay by Renny harlin Writer by Michael E. Uslan Professional stunt double by Jean Claude Van Damme (in a Spider-Man Costume) and now they call’ed it Spider-Man vs Doctor Doom (1985) from New World pictures and Association with Marvel predictions Ltd But this will be the first live action Marvel Superhero 🦸‍♂️ Movie 🎥 Called Spider-Man Vs Doctor Doom (1985) but it will be From New World Pictures and Marvel Production Ltd but unfortunately the 80’s Live Action Spider-Man Movie might be a low budget because it might be on VHS 📼 from New World home video and it’s going too be like Superman 2 (1981 movie) The Empire strikes back (1980 Movie) and Fast Times at Ridgemont high (1982 Movie) and it’s not Cannon Films Related it’s from New World Pictures!!!!!!!!!!

You can tell in a lot of old pitches they never read a comic in their life lol

They could have made many Spider-Man movies off those comic and mess everything with these movies they got out now and they picked the wrong Spider-Man's to play of Peter Parker and MJ. All the villains would have been in it, and the superheroes mentioned and in the comic book storyline of Spider-Man

Excellent video!!! I really wanted to know more about the plans that Cannon had for Spiderman since you mentioned it on the video about the James Cameron project. It's really mindblowing for how many stages the film went and in every case nothing came from it. Thanks for the video. I hope there are more coming!!!

2:21:35 on one hand it's infuriating how much of a diva James Cameron is, seriously, it's just a fucking producer name on the credits, is this hill really worth dying over that it compromises your whole movie? Other movie directors would kill for this kind of compromise where a producer only gets a tiny name on the credits; On the other hand i'm so thankful James was an insufferable arrogant diva otherwise we wouldn't have gotten Sam Raimi's masterpiece. I really dislike Cameron's treatment of Spider-man and i'm really glad it fell through

I’m definitely good with these staying as unmade movies. The Newsom/Brancato script sounded fine for the most part, but I’m definitely not down with the whole Doc Ock making a reality warping machine and the Pyun script sure sounded like… something. Not a good something, but it definitely seemed like something.

This is genuinely fascinating stuff. I personally found the mutant horror version of Spider-Man really interesting, but it would have been a flop.
I can barely hear some of the narrations in these videos. I think it would be helpful if you guys can get a better recording device or increase the volume a bit. I had no idea what was said at around 49:17 or 1:00:17 as examples. I have to skip ten seconds earlier at least a dozen times per video. I would really appreciate it if you guys improved your audio.

I love this video! All the videos on this channel are great but as a Spider-Man fan, I couldn't ask for a better documentary regarding this history! It's all so fascinating! I would love to know where you found some of these scripts, especially the Scott Leva/Steve Webb one. You mention that it's "available online" but I can't for the life of me find it. Everyone seems to love it and I'd love to give it a read myself. Thanks again for all the research and work to make this excellent video!

Currently building DeLorean time machine to go back to the period you talked about to when that Variety came out so I could offer Stan a measly 10,000 to buy the Marvel film rights and make it a in perpetual rights through 2010 deal and also get Kevin Feige involved lol

Let’s face it there was tons of Spider-Man movies that could’ve been made like the one and the One in 90s by James Cameron in this one so many opportunities missed in the 1999 series in the 2003 series but it’s still a good night to think about

You mentioned it was to be cinematic debut but in the UK I saw 3 Spider-man films at the cinema in the late 70s to early 80s; The Amazing Spider-man followed by Spider-man Strikes Back and Spider-man: The Dragon's Challenge, which I'm aware were shown on CBS in the US but were in cinemas all around the world. I feel very lucky they were because I loved seeing them on the BIG screen as opposed to a 21" TV with adverts throughout......
