These Features are MISSING on the Ableton Push 3

I've been using the @Ableton Push 3 for a while now and started to really love it for music making. But the longer you make music with it, the more you realize that certain features are just not there (yet). So here are my five feature wishes for the future - which ones would you like to see? Are you having a Push 3 or consider getting one? Curious to hear in the comments below!

I think a workaround to create instrument racks is to prepare an empty rack in Live, (with multiple chains if you want) save it as a preset, and send this preset to P3S. Then use this preset and fill it with whatever device you want
Yeah that’s a good idea! However it would be great to have more functionality to manage things like that in the future

Really good points. I'd be completely open to button combinations for some of these features like grouping or mapping the LFO. It doesn't have to have a whole new button. Give me some shift functions and I'm happy! Haha.

Many max devices need to be mappable and I’m sure they will. For now, there is a mappable LFO by Elizabeth Homeland ( I think) for Push 3.
Good call and yeah I’ve checked it out, great work by her! However I’d expect a company like Ableton to implement their own tools to Push 3 in a way that they actually work and aren’t useless so that plugins by other developers aren’t even needed.

Miles Kvndra - thanks for this succinct review.
I wondered about build quality? I have heard some say the buttons are not flush? This would be a real bummer. What are your feelings about the ergonomics of the device as well as build quality. World class or "second class?"

I’d say the build quality overall is very good. Didn’t have any issues with buttons not being flush so far on my unit, the jogwheel also works great and the pads are way more responsive than on Push 2, even without utilizing MPE. The only big downside, however, is that the headphone out is quite noisy. This seems to be an issue a lot of users have and I’ve written with Ableton support about this, who have confirmed that this is a known issue which they are trying to solve with a firmware update but can’t say if it will work. I really hope it does otherwise it would be quite annoying.
I got myself a Digitakt to be able to jam DAWless with my synths. Unfortunately, I keep running into limitations and the Elektron workflow is a bit more menu diving than I thought.
Thanks to the Push 2 I've become very familiar with the Ableton hybrid setup workflow, but on the other hand the Push 3 standalone is simply too immature for the price...

Know what you mean about the Elektrons. And agree on the Push 3, however it’s a real fun 1 device solution for music making that I’ve used until now. Will continue to report how it goes! :)
Oh yes. These features are a must. - in which online communities do you find great discussions/exchanges about Push 3 standalone operation?
Thanks Dani! The Push 3 threads on the Elektronauts forum are actually pretty great and I learned a lot from reading the discussions there and following those. In addition to that I can also recommend the official Ableton forum or some Push 3 user groups on Facebook (I’m not really active on Facebook anymore but I think there is some great resources for that).
I would love to see push3 standalone working with external midi devices. Currently it's midi clock is out of sync so you can't really use it with other synths.

Ja das kann ich mal checken, ich arbeite eigentlich eher mit Synths als mit Samples, Aber bin großer Fred again Fan, also warum nicht. :) und lessons biete ich aktuell nicht an, aber ich baue gerade bei Patreon eine Community auf, mit dem Ziel sich gegenseitig zu helfen und da kannst du mich auch immer anhauen. Just out of curiosity do you need live suite to use all the features within push 3?
No I think it comes with Live Intro if you buy it and once you connect it to your Ableton account, the Push updates to whatever version you have in your account.

ich finde sie hätten den push etwas größer machen sollen (also hinten nach vorne abgeflacht) dann hätten DIN Midi Ports reingepasst und sie hätten ein Touch Display machen sollen. Das hätte schon einige Probleme gelöst. hatte mich echt so lange auf ein hardware ableton gefreut und dann am ende doch enttäuscht gewesen und wieder zurück geschick. weil ich beim gig am ende genauso zu tun hatte als wenn ich einfach nur mit dem laptop gespielt hätte. es war einfach unhandlich.
Ich komme mit den MIDI Adaptern eig sehr gut klar (habe ich bei meinem Interface auch), aber beim Touch Display stimme ich dir voll zu. Das würde den Workflow deutlich einfacher machen. Ich werde meinen behalten, da ich Hoffnung auf zukünftige FW Updates habe und den Workflow für die Arbeit an Ideen und auch zum Sohnddesign sehr mag. Aber kann deinen Punkt total verstehen
Sad for me is the parameter device focus, like when tweakin one device at a session, the device controls focus gets lost when starting another clip on a different channel. That locker symbol on p3 could be great to lock device parameter focus as long as you need to.
That’s a very good point which would be important for live performance. I remember vaguely that Push 2 had an option where you could lock the device focus like you said while triggering different clips. Hope they bring that to Push 3 as an option too. Merry Christmas! :)

Don't overestimate Ableton's revenue. The company has a turnover of around 60 million, of which 8 million is profit. The owners have always been more interested in purpose than in scaling and innovation.
Most important you forgot
To mention: improve the database/browsing experience. NI Maschine’s, komplete kontrol are years ahead of what Ableton offers
That’s actually true. The browsing feels a little clumsy and is not intuitive. The more I use it, the quicker I get at it though. Hope some of the browsing improvements they showed with Live 12 will make it to the Push SA.

It's a shame that several flaws were discovered immediately after purchase. The lack of mapping of an LFO must be a given! But now they can keep us going again with updates, right... It's already hard enough to switch from the PC to a device like this! Will you leave the PC behind completely or do you still do a lot of preparation on the PC? Mastering tracks alone works best on the PC. I can't imagine using the fabfilter eq with the push encoders, if that even works?
Yeah it really is a shame that there are so many things not working yet. I don't think I can leave the PC behind any time soon as the Push 3 might need some more improvements for that. However, I have to say that I already do a lot of my music creation process on the Push 3 in standalone mode. To come up with first ideas, do sound design and jam around it's a really great device but to polish a song and play fully fleshed out live sets it's just not there (yet). I'm excited for future firmware updates and what Ableton will bring to the device as there is still so much unused potential.
LFO mapping issue has workaround via Max For Live LFO device, which supports mapping.
You know you can use the push 1,2,& 3 with bitwig. You lose the Visuals that push has with Ableton software but you get a lot of the features you want with bitwig.
Yeah that’s true, however I’d like to stay with Ableton as I know the ecosystem and tools + have an established workflow. Switching now would be quite hard to relearn everything
Sounds like the Push 3 is still a work in progress. I'm sure that they are currently focused on improving the stability of the Push 3 but I'm hopeful that they will add more functionality as time goes by. Think I'll stick with my Push 2 for the moment.
Yeah it definitely is. Good thing is that you can already see the potential that the device has once it’s fully fleshed out - and I’m confident Ableton will be working on getting it there pretty soon. Sticking with Push 2 for now probably isn’t a bad idea although I have to say I’m overall happy with the switch to Push 3.
They have boxed themselves in with the screen don’t think they will ever implement a lot of the wanted features
@@MaterialMike could be, but I still think there is lots of room to optimise the UI. Some of the devices already are displayed great, others not really
They had 5 years to optimise the push 2 and changed absolutely zero with the push 3 when it comes to navigating wavetable and operator i just can’t see it happening.

Knobs do nothing in session view... complete bizarre. They should control track volumes.

It really does but isn’t unfortunately. There are actual M4L LFO devices that work on Push Standalone but it’s a little sad that other people need to build these devices while Ableton’s own LFO is useless right now.
