Completely agree with your take on Alicante - it is very underrated. Hopefully one day the Tram will be extended from Luceros to Alacant Terminal. I was on a 599 from Principe Pio (Madrid) to Salamanca a week ago - that is a very scenic ride, at least as far as Avila. The only real gripe with those units is the luggage rack capacity at the end of the coach frequently does not meet demand. The overhead racks will take roll-ons no problem but bigger suitcases are clearly a problem unless you board early and at the originating station.

I live in Brazil and occasionally travel to Europe freestyle, that is, without a tour company. However, I believe that if you have a company that organizes train rides in these itineraries that you present in your videos, I would be interested in hiring your services. It could be in a different form from established operators. It could be as follows: Small groups of a maximum of 10 people where you can offer the predetermined passes, on the most interesting routes. In each location, you would only indicate hotels, hostels, or hostels to your customers, without however determining a specific one already included in the package. Each day, your client would be free to walk around the cities freely, without the shackles of a pre-determined itinerary. The only obligation would be to meet you at a certain location to embark on a new trip towards another city, and tickets would already be available, as well as having your explanations about the train, the route, the cities and things like that. It would be a nice way to travel. Organized but free.

@@NonstopEurotrip S-599 are doing a great job in slow regional trips in Galicia, Valencia and some other regions nowadays. Fast regional trips in Galicia are being done with S-121 EMUs at about 200 km/h (although S-121 can achieve a top speed of 250 km/h), and in some other northern Spanish regions even faster, so travelling by train has become a cheaper, quicker and more environmental-friendly option than doing the equivalent trip by car. S-121 EMUs, which are normally used in regional high-speed trips (Avant services), are also very comfortable units, providing a generous space for luggage above the seats and in luggage shelves at the beginning of each coach. I hope that the S-121 train you took was properly washed, so you could take decent shots of the trip -- we are complaining about that... sometimes, S-121 units are showing a "brown nasty" appearance due to dust that is not wiped out
They used to be very good while they were correctly maintained. About 15 years ago, they were giving a magnificent service in Galicia, in the Atlantic Axis. Nowadays, if they are not correctly kept, they are suffering from mechanical problems, as I know from the press. Besides, the bad state of the tracks in some parts of Andalusia and Extremadura helps these units to degrade quickly
interesting to note that this DMU was used as a base for italian DMUs ATR 365/465 (three and four element DMUs used in Sardinia, which counts zero kilometers of electrified railway).
@@NonstopEurotrip there was in the late 80s/early 90s a project to bring the electric system in Sardinia, with the 25kV alternate current system. Unfortunately it didn't go well, and the project got cancelled. Fiat (now Alstom) built some locomotives that had to get scrapped since they hadn't the 3kV DC pickup system. Every now and then someone tries to bring up the electrification project of the island.
Good video and beautiful images! As some comments are pointing out, MD (449 and 598, 599) are good trains for Media distancia , but not for trips getting over 300 km. BTW, in Spain all Renfe anouncements are made from local to general language, in this case Valencian > Spanish > English.
I'm traveling with an interrail pas in a few months, and do i need a reservation on the regional train from Barcelona to Valencia? or any other regional connection?
No for regional trains, but yes for every other one (MD, Avant, Talgo, Euromed, AVE). AFAIK there isn't a regional service between Barcelona and Valencia, only Talgo and Euromed. 🤔
MD? Yes from Jaén to Madrid and back. Excellent but, for a 4 hour journey, could have done with a buffet car. I like the fact that the seats recline within their own space so that, unlike on aircraft, one doesn't end up lying down in the person behind's lap/dinner.
I don't know exactly why Renfe is considering some trips that are longer than 300 km as regional services (hence these regional-service units are used), when they should be considered long distance trips. But this one you refer to isn't the only case in Spain, I know about several others. Maybe for this case, the amount of passengers is not enough "to be economically profitable" (according to Renfe's opinion). Consequently, this trip is subject to public subvention. As long trips can't be kept subject to subvention, they should be considered regional.
@@miguelfranco9686 As you mentioned, long distance services cannot, by law, be subsidised in Spain. So, in an attempt to keep them running, those that don't earn enough to cover their costs are considered as medium-distances which can receive public money.
Even for a regional train you need a reservation, what a joke. Spanish trains are almost NEVER full, not even the AVE trains, and yet you need a reservation for every train. That's especially annoying when you have an interrail ticket and you can't make a reservation online for it. You HAVE TO go to a counter (where they almost never speak English, not even in Barcelona and Madrid) and get a reservation there. I don't know who came up with the idea for this and what the reason for this is.
