I’ve been wanting to try cow tongue, and my mother refuses to cook it for me, so I looked up recipes for cow tongue tacos and here I am! I’ll be getting it next month so I’ll come back to let you know how it turns out.
I remember my mom tried to cook tongue when I was a little kid, maybe 6o years ago. All I remember was the tongue being very tough. Since then I’ve had some properly prepared lingua and it is now one of my favorite taco fillings.
Ive had great n not so great lingua tacos i like mine good n greasy. This is the soul food of tacos to me. Loved this recipe cooking it now.@TRIPLEBsBBQ
yes! I debated back and forth whether I could release a video where I don't touch the grill, but went for simplicity on this one. turned out awesome, glad you liked!
Tacos tacos tacos!!! This sounds so amazing Sal! I'm so happy our local grocer is regularly carrying tomatillos that we can try out that gorgeous looking salsa. Loved the method in here as well. Can't wait to make this for ourselves!
I love green salsa! It’s the first type of salsa I remember eating when I was little(maybe 4 or 5), I’ll have to tell that story in one of my videos because it’s a funny one
Thanks for the tutorial. My man is Hispanic and I growing up white as hell have never had/ cooked/ been exposed to the way other cultures use all of the animal in cooking. I appreciate it. And am gonna start with something easy.
Wow, I would love to taste that. I have never cooked with beef tongue, but you make it look delicious. Wish tomatillos were available here. And I agree corn tortillas for tacos, plus they're gluten free :)
Do you like them that way? That’s what’s important. Thought It’s not traditional to use lettuce, tomatoes and avacado, I don’t see why you couldn’t add them, especially if you like it that way.
Hey SJ, how would you attempt sous vide the Lengua? I am kind of puzzled how much I should cook for just myself. Can I re-freeze the Lengua once cooked through? I'd try other recipes, like Ragu with it too. I hope this reaches you soon, thanks for the awesome Video!
you can definitely vacuum seal and freeze leftovers. that's actually a pretty good idea! I've never sous vide lengua before but now I want to try it! I'd probably par boil it to get rid of the impurities and then peel the tongue. cut into slices. season and then sous vide. I'll have to try myself and if I get good results I should make a video on it!
my mother in law cooks the tongue and then finishes it some spaghetti sauce, served over rice. I thought it was weird at first but I do enjoy it that way.
Thanks alot! Although a great Idea, I have to consider the sous vide might take 36 hrs, so I will try my first time the traditional way as in your Video. Have a nice one mate! Greetings from Germany
Oh man, this looks amazing. I'm a white chick but lengua tacos have always been my favorite above all others. The first time I tried them I was wanting to experience something new so I got some street tacos from a Mexican ran taco truck. I grew up in Utah and most of my neighbors were central to south American or Spanish, so I got exposed to some of the BEST Latino food EVER, from carne asada burritos, to enchiladas, to menudo (Though I'm still not a fan of tripe, I just really don't like the texture). But now I'm tossed on whether to go buy the tongue to make these OR get the pork shoulder/butt to make Chinese BBQ pork buns. With the price of groceries right now, it will be a choice of one or the other. So... yeah. Unless...hmm, can the lengua meat here be used in making Tamales? What other recipes can the lengua be used in when prepared like this? I'd like to see you maybe do a budget video where you use left overs of past meat you've made and incorporated them into different dishes.
Pork shoulder is def cheaper and you get a lot more meals/meat out of it. It’s also very versatile in what you can do with leftovers. I do have a video on here on what to do with leftovers. I usually don’t cook a lot of lengua because of the price, if there are leftovers, we usually end up doing tacos again or a burrito. The only other way I know of to cook lengua is in a tomatoe based sauced. My mother in law introduced me to that. I might make a video on this soon. Thank you very much for the comment and feedback!
@ I’m not diabetic, but I am obese and I learned that high insulin levels keep you overweight, hindering you from losing weight no matter how little you eat and how much you exercise. My sister in laws mom was heating some up and I was drooling 🤤 lol
Damn im making it now but for the boiling water i have the garlic cloves bay leaves and onions but forgot to buy that red pepper i hope it still tastes the same
Try cutting in slices before it's too well done....the membrane ain't gotta roll off like that...u can cut it like the fat off beef. Cut some thin slices and put in pan to get a crisp...then cool and chop into bites...brings out more flavor imo.
😢😢😂😭😭😭You really should have roasted those peppers. Cooked salsa is ok, but it just doesn’t land as nice. We’re cooking the tongue for hours, so we don’t really have an excuse that we’re in a hurry. So vamos despacito, llegamos más rápido.
Just how mom makes it 😁. My girlfriend loves these too first time she tried it and can’t get enough of them. I didn’t tell her it was tongue 😂.
Haha!

it's good stuff for sure!
Fantastic tacos bro! I also agree that they taste better than carne asada tacos!
it's a very bold statement I know, but it's so true!
I was wondering if peeling the tongue would be tougher with it being cut up, but clearly it's not that bad. Tacos looks awesome
It's a slight "inconvenience" but really isn't that bad. Thanks Brandon!
I've always wanted to cook tongue. I may have to reference this video. Looks delicious 🍻
Thanks Mike! when you do give it a shot, let me know. it's good eatin for sure
@SJ COOKS yes i agree sal. I eat it everytime I see it on a menu just never cooked it. May have to make a "gringo cooks cow tongue 1st time" vid lmao.
Haha, Yessss do it!
Do it triple dont hold back, and don't worry if it's not perfect. With the learning curve you will find your preference.

Ong rootboy these are a must experience. Lengua for the feeds the tongue 👅. And she will like it too.
Super simple technique for a delicious looking result. Thanks Sal for making this cut less complicated for those wanting to give it a try.

Lengua, tripas and cabeza. My go to tacos
Good stuff!
They are the best tacos to be honest. I’ve tried other fancy tacos in expensive restaurants but the ones you mentioned are better

Used to have tongue sandwiches in New York delis when I was in my twenties. It's not much different than regular beef. Maybe a little Milder
That sounds awesome. Never had it in a sandwich before
Thank you for sharing. will make it tomorrow!
Very cool!
How was it?
@@Prettynpink007 it was impressive!

Nice. I love lengua. The food truck I get it from, they add lettuce, tomatoes and slice of avocado. Any reason most ppl don’t add those?

I would love to use corn tortillas but I’m trying to avoid elevating my insulin. I’ll need to use something that’s more insulin friendly.
Oh man. I wish I had suggestions. Trader Joe’s must have something like a gluten free tortilla or something

What gloves do you use?
i use black cotton gloves that I bought at a bbq supply store and then over the cotton gloves, I put nitrile gloves on.
Damn im making it now but for the boiling water i have the garlic cloves bay leaves and onions but forgot to buy that red pepper i hope it still tastes the same
It will. Pepper don’t really make it spicy or anything. You are good
Iam up on top of a mnt campin. I just made my first tongue. All on camp fire 🔥. I slit and stuffed and rapped in foil cooked for 5 hrs.
That is awesome! Very glad you made it work.
Tongue me, hermanooooo!!
every single video I release now, I wonder what you are going to reply with lol ...and you never disappoint! haha
What kind of onion? Yellow?
I don’t remember. But white onion should be used if available.
There is a legit reason lengua went from 69 cents a lb to 10 bucks and climbing. Simply the best meat on the animal.
It’s very pricey!
Try splitting before cutting into smaller pieces
Good idea!

It’s criminal to eat tacos without Mexican coke or an ice cold beer 🍺
