Famous for his Christmas hit single Stop the Cavalry, Jona Lewie penned You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties with fellow Brett Marvin and the Thunderbolts member Keef Trouble. Both were also members of Terry Dactyl and the Dinosaurs and acheived hits with Seaside Shuffle and On A Saturday Night.
Jona Lewis. Unique. Different. Classic 80s pop. I don't miss everything from the 80s just mostly the music.
anyone who can fit the word 'rebuffed' into a song is a genius.
And.... 12 years later.... the same goes for ‘Cordon Bleu’ (cookery), in the following verse.....
True
@@angelogandolfo4174 How can you not love this man? With his new haircut and everything.
This is such a great song; beneath the tongue in cheek lyrics that synth is pretty dark and menacing....absolutely brilliant tune:)
It's also, male or female a story about hanging in the Kitchen hoping someone might notice you.
In the 80's I congregated in the Kitchen at parties. Jona was right, you have to talk before you dance or fuck.
The kitchen was always the best place to be at partys. Where the smart girls were,
Ah I see, Jonna, the hair cut man was giving me a hint. Thank you Jonna. It's been a while. I think you need a haircut.
If you were at parties, you found yourself in the kitchen hoping someone with a brain said hello.
I am 15 Years old and my Dad showed me this song when I was 5, he used to play it to me before I went to sleep. Listening to it now here in 2023 brings back so many memories. Great Song!
Do you also like other songs by Jona Lewie, like Louise and Stop The Cavalry?
Your father is wise
'Tell Me Your Secrets' brought me here. Instant fan. 😁
I brought myself here because I have good taste in music. Love the 80's.
After watching this i will dance in a new way for the rest of my life.
Jonah Lewie is an acquired taste. I appreciate his sense of humour and unique singing style.
That's why we'll find you in the kitchen at parties
An acquired taste, you betcha.
Once acquired it's loved.

I remember this song so well ! I was 14 and loved the back up singers
I just turned 15 then and I loved this song, over the years, many lovers ... of late I'm still serving my time in the kitchen.
Most of us are in the kitchen mate.
@@HolyGoddessMotherAnne Just been to a party and ... in the kitchen again.
My mum actually danced that funky dance, 20 years before Jonah Lewis! Love it!
What a nice master piece from the 80's...👏😜👍🙏
It's from 1978
May 1980...i actually thought.....
@@ravsingh5347 You're right. Thanks 👍
This is the definition of 80's music... synths, strange lyrics, audience apathy. I loved Top of The Pops, even if I wasn't into the music.
hahaha bang on strange days indeed
Nicely commented on the audience apathy... TRUTH!
2:06 is hilarious 😅 WTF!!
Brilliant song. I also loved Louise. Love tongue-in-cheek dancing. Videos now are like mini porn flicks with crap songs
Yeah what was it with that TOTP audience?
Great song and still to this day, almost 40 years on, love the hand / arm antics of the keyboard player :o) ! Great sounds, great times !
The synthesizer sequence is the best bit!
Yeah, that's the bit that makes it sound very New Wave / post-punk.
Damn those birds are groovey.
I wanna go as them.to the next fancy dress
@De St "Either strut your stuff, or bog off" they'd have said.
the great Kirsty mccoll was one of the ladies when Jona was on top of the pops
What a classic song... Outstanding! I'd forgotten about this song, since a cassette was stolen 20+yrs ago lol!!
Great voice, great tune, great era... Love the voice... Great stuff.
Brilliant!
Thanks for posting it.
Haha cassette !😎💕🖖
My friend John was a bass guitarist and appeared with Jonah in the Terry Dactyl days, he said Jonah was a great geezer!
Seaside Shuffle.,😊
@@stevebolton4143 Spot on Steve, I still listen to it all these years later 🙄 how sad is that ? 😮💨the Bass guitarist, my mate John was called John Sturtivant, but the band always called him 'Sturdy Pants'🤫🤭! We worked on the Brighton and Hove Environmental Service together as pest controllers, he was a great laugh, and a decent guitarist too! Have a good weekend mate, all the best to you and yours!👍👍👍👍👍
The backing singer in the green dress is Kirsty MacColl who later had a Chrismas hit with Shane MacGowan with Fairy Tale In New York
Another underrated song the millennials could try listening to this since a lot of them love pop music
They would not like the song, They would be crying in the kitchen at parties
the 80's were where it all happended
HIBERNIAN04 hell yeah
oh aye mate
Except that this song was released in 1978 . . .
the kitchens were where it all happened
When people had 100% creative freedom without having to worry about upsetting anyone.
oh man I just GOTTA do that dance at all this Christmas's parties. And that Lady in the green dress- wow what a gorgeous smile as she sidles up to Jona. And I got to learn the steps to that 'new dance'
This song is so reminiscent of the 80's lol we were always in the kitchen at parties 😊
It was great to hear this track again..brings back so many awesome memories.
Someone stole my vinyl release of this track and it's hard to replace...
Thanks for sharing! Cheers!
This record always reminds me of running in my Kawasaki Z650 C3 motorcycle.
Fantastic song very dark synth appropriate for May 1980
work for the dole , i got to sit hear for 8 hours doing nothing but playing my favorite mucic good bless this australian governmemt
Ah, how true, finding me in kitchen at parties and great song, so undervalued. Jan
I loved the sombre moody sounds of those synth songs of the early eighties .
I keep coming back to this!
It has been claimed that the female backing vocal is by Kirsty MacColl, but Lewie has confirmed during the recording of the song they were done by the wives of producer Andrews and Dave Robinson, the owner of Stiff Records. MacColl did however appear as a backing vocalist during live performances.
It's Kirsty in the video
It's her in this wee gem. ua-cam.com/video/yrgjtCpSCYs/v-deo.html
Kirsty is on "I think I need my haircut"

Such a fun song - very catchy
EXCELLENTAE. Awesome song, and so true. The kitchen is always the best place to be @ Parties. Nothing like sticking plastic cups to the kitchen ceiling with dip. :)
Still does it for me . 80s Weird? Well if you were there, it wasn't. Will, its just so explainable, but it was good :)
OMG so love this song, heard it today after years.........
Classic 80s at its best!
1:34 I just noticed the tap swing in. 😂
What a cool song. I remembered Louise immediately when I heard it again, but this one got in deep.
"Louise" and this one are underated Masterpieces ❤
I finally found it!!!!! yeah.
Kooooool Guy 👍, Awesome 👍💯 song,🤟🤟🤟🤟🙏💓💓👍💯👍👍👍😯🙄🙄
This (and Musik Laden) are definitely the best versions of this catchy. clever and cool song to be uploaded on UA-cam, The girl in green is Beautiful!
Just a classic!
Wondrous in its self deprecation and astute ‘English observation’ .... melodically brilliant and so rich in the synth textures. I think I need interpret this as a stand alone ‘Cover ‘ as I love it . Oh and the Dancing 💃 🎩
Beautiful song I keep listening to. Just to make sure I understand it very well, is the topic of this song about "different" people, awkward in their social life but no matter their behaviour, soon or late, with time, they finally "find the shoe to their foot" (or the perfect fit). Thanks and regards from France.
ageless was great when it was released and even better now , so good ,
Indeed. Classic
you have great taste kev, toss up Harness Up Died Pretty or this one both to kill off more gray matter
Nice song a change from Stop the Cavalry lol love this catchy tune🇬🇧😍🖐️✋

definitely superhands..... awesome song.
Awesome song!!
it certainly did - what an inspirational advert!
This was the coolest uncool band at that time. Lots of fun and the "In the kitchen at parties..." is such a good place to be at parties.
Party's in da Kitchen were the Go
I love his dance near the end.
Happy Birthday!
One of our A M stations played this tonight.... bewdy...got home and punched it in !!!
Tht dance is the best dance I have ever seen
this song takes me back to when I was about 19 ....I spent a lot of time in the kitchen at parties too! But it's much better to dance because no one really gives a shit what you look like when you are doing it :)
Reached no.2 in 1980 - only denied top spot by 'The Cliff', who seemed to own number 1 back then..
If you look quickly enough, he makes an appearance in the IKEA ad.. in the kitchen!!
GREAT SONG
Class tune.
should have been me there xx lol l love Jona xxx 😆
I just love it
AWESOME SONG!
great song jona,always been a favourite 5*****

always a " wow " !
lol " at some do in Palmers Green"
brings back memories of partying down palmers green.
Loved the 80's, Ikea brought me back to this classic tune
2021 had the jab and still love this song
It featured on an episode of "The Young Ones" when they had a party!
Amazing haunted 1980 very dark
Today he would be streaming games from his kitchen at parties
yeah luv it
I like that chick in the green. She is into it, it's nice when the backup singers aren't dead inside.
It made it to no.16 in the UK in 1979. The synth is an Oberheim SEM based 8-voice, plus an ARP Odyssey mk1. And yes, I was the geek always in the kitchen at teenage parties.....
Correction - the Obie on screen is a 4-voice.
Im so glad my parents showed me this 0_0
i discovered it on a 1990s compilation tape of '80s hits. Never saw what they looked like till youtube much, much later!
And I Ain't no Cordon bleu ! ..............pure classic!
Jona is so cute!
great song
their dancing is so cool :D
Both thumbs up mate. However I pointed out to My 31 Year old Stepson that Jona was in the Ikea ad,
He didn't know who to look for,But after telling Him of Don't Stop The Cavalry. He immediately knew who to look for the next time the ad came on.

Thank god for good old British synth pop!
