i agree with what someone else said: the question isn’t whether you can do work in it. the question is by how much does it improve (or even hurt) your actual “productivity”. now that’s really hard to measure, so it’s more of a feeling than anything else. the handful of times i’ve done work in my quest 3, i ABSOLUTELY ~felt~ more productive. i don’t do it more often because i don’t want to have to carry around another thing.

The single biggest hurdle that Apple needs to convince me of is simple; can I be more productive than I already am by more than 10% to make the AVP worth my while.

@@JerrySchulze that’s what I was expecting to hear. As much as I’d like to be working with the AVP, it’s not quite justifiable for what I’d use it for.

"There's almost nothing available for real work apps" - except for the vast library of compatible iPad apps. If you can get productive work done on an iPad, think of the Vision Pro as an arbitrary number of arbitrarily-sized iPads. And of course, the native software situation will improve rapidly.

Apple has tried - unsuccessfully - for years to market the iPad as an alternative to the computer as a productivity device. Now, lets be honest please: other than for writing docs in Word, or sending emails, or having Zoom calls, or easy tasks like that... do many professionals actually prefer their iPad over their Macbooks to get serious work done? iOS is less capable and flexible than MacOS when it comes to work, so why choose an - uncomfortable and expensive - iOS device with very limited battery life when you need to get actual work done? Why not just grab your Macbool? It seems like a solution searching for a problem...

8:30 damn right!!! I dont get this "multi window setup" narrative. It seems to me like a cool tech solution searching for a problem. @@scottmartin5492 this is a conversation about productivity, not portability. Lets be realistic, please: nobody goes to Starbucks for a mega session of work, specially if you have tons of noise around you and 2 hours max of battery life (Vision Pro). People do their productivity sessions at their work desk, where you dont have interruptions, external noise, battery limitations, etc. So I repeat my original question: when at your desk, how is plugin your macbook to a 49" ultra wide monitor not an easier, cleaner, more confortable and more economical solution?

    • @scottmartin5492

You say that the vision pro won’t be productive, only for entertainment, but you don’t know that. As a matter of fact, a recent software update (Beta 1.1) for the vision pro has already improved a number of things in the product. This is just the first update of the software, think how much better it’s going to get, with more updates to come.
Let’s not forget that this is a 1st generation product and therefore, the worst this product will ever be. Some time next year, a new model with more powerful hardware will come out, paired with much better and detailed software. If this 1st generation of the vision pro can be this impressive, which is not common with 1st generation products, think of what the next generation will be capable of and then the others that will follow there after.
All in all, we haven’t seen nothing yet of the potential this new product line has to offer. Stay tuned.
