Feels like this isn't right because every dmv video for the driving test I watch says you will fail the test if you dont use the bike lane to turn. Because it's a lane, if you're turning and are supposed to yield to bikes, you will hit them. You're supposed to move over so the bike sees you and stops behind you. Thinkin you might be wrong. And the not a cop part of me thinks you're saying this on purpose...
I lost my driver licence due to cognitive impairment and now ride an E Bike. I am a little leary to ride a 2 lane road and make turns, especially a left turn. I don't know the law in Florida but in California a bike lane is marked along it length by a continuous line until it reaches a point where traffic will cross the bike lane in a legal turn. Here the lane is marked with a broken line that indicates traffic in the vehicle lane may enter the bike lane for the purpose of turning onto an intersecting road or exit. That's what I see in these images of the bike lane in Florida. The broken lines permitting entry into the bike lane are for safety and allow vehicles in the adjacent lane to enter the bike lane when safe. The suggestion in the video that this is not allowed in Florida makes no sense. Why is the line broken at the intersection if not to indicate that the bike lane is not restricted at this point from cars in the adjacent lane entering? Disclaimer: I stopped when the moron narrating became so frustratingly imprecise and unclear in what he was explaining. Why is that a problem? People watch these videos and then, after causing a wreck, injuring or killing a cyclist will defend sayint, but on UA-cam they said I must cross the bike lane when turning across it in Florida. The safe way to make, in this case a right turn at an intersection is to check the bike lane for traffic, signal your intention 100' prior to the broken bike lane markers, and if safe enter the bike lane continuing to signal your turn and proceeding.
Thanks so much for showing this. I ride almost daily in Orlando and see this behavior on every ride even when not near an intersection. Drivers use it for extra space. I’ve even had cars pull into the bike lane when it’s backed up to block bikes. I’ve also been hit by a car that ran a stop sign. We need better enforcement. Most police here don’t seem to care.
A car needing to make a right into the gas station... no bikes.... they can turn into the station. Taking the turn into the gas station or coming out of it, come on....

Right like what hes saying doesnt make sense at all my understanding is that the broken lines indicate it is okay to merge into that lane

the broken bike lane lines indicate a car can drive there to turn the corner or go into the parking lot.
