Honestly they are the scariest part of the tyranids. Oceans of critters rushing B with the fervor of Counter Strike veterans
While Slav hard bass plays in the background. :)
@@cybruiser57peti protivogaz!
Literally so many bodies that you won't just not have enough ammunition, you won't have enough time to reload or even enough FIRE RATE if you did
Eww why rush B? Rush A no one expects that
NOT ENUF DAKKA!
Commissar Horma Gaunt is still one of the best creations tg ever came up with.
"Of course he's a commissar. He's wearing the hat, isn't he?"
Ok, can I get a story here?
/tg/ gets shit done.
What would be the Guards distraction carnifex tho?
"Another wave of little stabby bastards" probably the most apt line ever for Tyranids.
It also works when describing a mob of Grots running at you.
I absolutely love that the Tyranid strategy is basically "throw babies at them. Lots of hungry little babies"
I'm just imagining a warrior dying then a lone termagant with a solo cup throws said cup down then screeching "SCATTER!!!"
Lmao
Gargoyles flapping their wings like hummingbirds is now my head canon.
Just imagine the chill of hearing that drowning sound rolling in over the field before all hell swoops in off the horizon.
If we are going by the "gargoyles are hummingbirds" theory then i also want them to use their tail feathers (or the equivalent) to make little farting sounds like hummingbirds do^^
True Facts kid. LOL@@tranquilthoughts7233
"Glory to the first gaunt to die!"

Always ready for a class on Xeno biology at the Schola Progenium with Arch.
Can't wait to know where to shoot it.
fun fact for people not much aware of how real world fire fights work. In modern war fighting and planning 200 rounds of ammunition is seen as bare minimum for a 300I in the field. Usually they will carry 5 mags loaded at 30 rounds each minimum, and boxed or strip loaded ammo for field re supply. The media often makes a mess of it, but truth be told several hundred rounds of ammo is just range practice, not preparation for Armageddon. If I were IG, I would be so grossly overloaded with ammo and or charge packs if I got ammo cook off they would see the explosion from orbit.
is that because of wasted shots or is it because operation time is hilariosly longer than most fictions portray (ala sci-fi writers don't understand distance scale of space)?
@@otaviolobo7989
From what i know it´s usually high ammo usage. firefights are usually short, like seconds short.
As it turns out people rather expend more ammo than risking getting shot in order to get an aimed shot off themselves.
@@otaviolobo7989 No they really don't. Nor does GW (or star wars) have the slightest clue how speed works either. Scaling has always been an issue in sci fi. It's more than just operation time, it's also the length and intensity of the fighting. My grandfather operated landing craft in the second world war. He spent weeks at a time shipboard in tedium and was only ever shot at twice. My great uncle by contrast made it to his 18th mission in a bomber before he saw his first German fighters and incidentally it was the same day he got shot down. Marksmanship standards when I was active required 30/30 in a man sized target at 100 yards for basic qualification.
On the training exercises I've been on carrying 1200+ rounds wasn't unheard of.
~300 in mags (10-11 mags), 300 in packets, 3x 200 rnd belts for the C9.
The guy on the C9 would pass out his mags to the riflemen so we'd have a couple more than usual.
We were doing lots of contact drills so you burn through the ammo fast. Especially the LSW.
@@kieranh2005 I was only ASF. An aircraft technician and mechanic who if I ever had to return small arms fire from the safety of a carrier, we had really big problems, Even for us standard load was seven mags and a 16A2. If I actually had to go in the field? Hell All the ammo I can carry and then some. Say what you like about 5.56 I love how light it is.

I want to belive the "Genestealers cutting through terminator armor like butter" is just Cain being horrendously traumatised
😂 you'd think they'd be able to keep a chart of things that can actually carve up a terminator suit like butter and say "everything else, will have to work on other ways of killing the user of this suit using tactics"
I always thought it was the genestealers targeting the joints
Clearly, adamantium is actually the 40K word for butter.
Conspiracy theory: No one in the 40k universe knows what "butter" is. It's just an old saying.
Has "butter" ever been mentioned outside of a simile in all of 40k literature?
@@nicholasrandall3507this actually makes way more sense than you think. We know that a fuckton of species went extinct when humanity collapsed the first time.
Staring at the horde of gaunts is the moment where you say, "Brother, don't even bother with the heavy flamer. Go straight to the Hellhound."
Make that a dozen hellhounds

All I got is this Redeemer pattern Land Raider. That good?
2:50 if you want to skip the raid shadow legends advert.
What’s always struck me is the mass of these things.
200 kg / 440 lbs.
These aren’t scrawny hundred-pound wimps like Tolkien Orcs.
They’re beefier than Gregor Clegane or an average Black Bear.
By simple mass alone, bringing one of these down with a modern-day sidearm before it closes the distance is virtually impossible, and even using a modern AR is a big ask. For one single solitary Gaunt.
And there are trillions of these horrors sprinting at you.
That’s a good point.
I mean it takes .306 to reliably one shot a boar.
Guants are 1.5-2 boars… with more bone armor.
you could probably take one down with an automatic rifle firing NATO 7.52 rounds, if you fired at it on full auto. guess you better hope you can reload before his 800 buddies close the distance :p
7.62 full metal jacket
Warrior or Gaunt?
An individual Gaunt would be no more difficult than an ordinary human. In fact take away the claws it's an even less formidable foe than a medium sized dog.
One decent bullet hit and they are down.
A warrior however... that's a different beast altogether.
Now we're talking a well placed single .50 calibre round to take it out. Well placed mind you. If not well placed then multiple .50 calibre Rnds
I always imagined them as about as big/mass as a man, their posture is hunched like orks which belies it's size but bigger than a black bear? Like body mass? Nah that's silly
But what happens when Gaunts die? do they become Gaunt Ghosts? A Gaunt's Ghost you might even say 🤔🧐
These are not the gargoyles i remember from my 90s cartoons.
Im gonna go out on a limb here and thank Raid:Shadow Legends for supporting my favorite loremaster. Heres to 9 more years of Arch!
Edit: Props for the Butcher Bay reference 35:18

The Tyranids famously have no lore, but Arch finds a way!
He has no lore.
He has no grace.
This gaunt has a funny face.
the monkey king is a good story, he reminds me a bit of Loki of the Nordic mythology
I could see gargs having some sort of gas bladder organ(s) to reduce the energy expense for their flight.
I still feel like gaunts are the truly iconic nids. Not the big ones. Drown your enemies in endless tides of simple warriors.
In which case your opponent also specialises and obliterates you.
@@TheTurinturumbar were not talking about balanced for tabletop matches. Generally if nids make planetfall your screwed. Look how bad Bhaal ended up?
Daddy Arch serving us more lore porridge spiced with Tyranid Biomatter is always welcome. :3😃
dont forget to work the shaft, girl.
wish we had Night Gaunts added also.
both in game and for more lore.
they are basically Hormagants with wings. :D
So, gargoyles?
@@Colonel_Overkill nope. no Ranged weapons and better melee weapons.
Hormagaunts were the first unit I ever bought and while I never made a Tyranid army, I can't help but like them and need to finish it off one day.
"What is a carnifex?"
A miserable pile of secrets?
My brother played nids so this was a pleasant reminder of how much they pissed me off 😂. Thanks for the video
The TRULY scary bit is the fact that if you do a very clean kill on a Gaunt (shoot it right in the face, for instance), that's a lot of biomass for them to pick up, eat and make more Gaunts with later. Only completely destroyed biomass counts with Nids
I was just about to look up lore on these guys today after getting home from work! Arch, you never disappoint!
Now all I can think about is a gargoyle falling into a crowded room and then staring for just a split moment and going “FREAK OUT!”
Getting snake snaaake? SNAAAAAKEEE vibes from Tyranids, the swarm. No where is safe, nothing is going to last and everything is going to be food.
Wouldn't rippers be more numerous than Gaunts?
Rippers classify more as the gatherers in the lore just a stomach with a mouth not purely made for combat
Yeah, to my knowledge (which is somewhat limited with Nids) Rippers aren't really considered "expendable" as they tend to have a job to do that the Hive Fleet wants done WITHOUT excessive casualties.
I think there *are* more of them than Gaunts, but they are in a different category since they aren't necessarily *meant* for combat, and aren't necessarily *supposed* to die in mass droves.
You make Raid sound less gay than it is. Great skill.
Let's go! Keep the Lore coming Arch!
As much as i loved fielding the larger bioforms in dawn of war 2 nothing was more satisfying seeing swarms of every type of gaunt rip apart my foes while the larger bioforms closed in. I ssuspect it would have the same effect on tabletop 40K .
Zerglings.
2:50 Ad skip
I was just looking for a documentary about John of Gaunt
The zerglings of the tyrranids
Was just thinking i wonder whats arch doing
Honestly, given the size of the pterosaurs, many being bigger than gargoyles it doesn't seem that out there that they can fly. They would be very light, and their carapace is probably more for show and to give protection from the elements rather than any combat protection
"A well trained squad with enough ammunition can kill an indefinite number of hormagaunts"
GW proceeding to show half the ultramarines 1st company getting wiped out by a few dozen organisms, terminators only managing to kill a few neurogaunts....
This planet is ready for a visit.
Damn... somehow I got hungry, gonna go make a planet sammich or somethin'
And this is why I always liked mechanised infantry against 'Nid's, being assualted your Chimeras make a nice fortified gun line, time to leave, just drive off in your flesh borer proof metal box, being out flanked, reposiiton, road blocked by paniced civilians... I suppose that one depends on just how ruthless the commander is (but God Emperor help them if the commander is from Kreig)
40:20 ..that problem.. for some reason it made my mind spawn the vision of what a hybrid of the ' meet portals cores ' and the turret training scene.. and a 40k servitor ^^ aka gargolye pops out went screeching , servitor skull is already waiting for it at the went beeps and boops twice ,and then the heavy machine gun in the uppsized hover frame its part of spins into action and turns the nid flappy flappy into bio lubricant salsa for the went hatch hinges XD
I do love these little bug looking dinosaurs.
3:30 As someone who played aginst Tyranid armies of just specials in 7th edition. I can tell you that is an outright lie.
oh my poor imperial guard.
Does anyone else get the feeling Arch is actually one of the two sponsors (and ten people in general) who actually plays RAID?
Oh people play raid they give the most rewards points on a bunch of apps
@@jamesfreeman3617 Oh! I knew it was heavily advertised but I've never come across anyone who actually played it.
Doesn’t matter to me, if you he or whoever like a game, more power to you, I like the story of the monkey king very much, don’t know if the game is good but they seem to take good stories from old cultures and hopefully tell something close to the original, as long as games, movies, books do I like that they use good stories, 1000 years, 100 years old stories can still be good
Love your vids. It was your Warhammer Total War faction and speculation vids that really got me into the hobby and the lore. I now own a gigantic, ever-growing, pile of unpainted shame so... many thanks from Bhutan for that I guess.
First new lore vid the new year!
I always thought nids holding their guns looked goofy on the smaller ones, is there a termagaunt that spits instead of having a gun?
Well, technically they are not holding them, but they are grafted to their arms before deployment
The gun is a separate organism, it’s symbiotically attached to the nid. Firing even smaller organisms.
Finally content that everyone can appreciate
In 40K, the bugs hunt you.
I like using hormagaunts on the table top, in a squad of 20 they rush in and (with a lucky roll) tear apart enemy squads
In the battle for tarios ultra the gargoyle was able to pick up a shoulder from the front line and carry him off
The original zerg rush!
Thank you for the video, Arch!
I loved the zerglings when inplayed starcraft, though being a protoss. always liked to head canon my protoss commander having a pack of friendly Devouring Ones
48 minute video of the tyranids I thought Christmas was over !
Thank you for the video oh mighty Loremaster 😁
But sire, what about the neurogaunt, the barbgaunt, the ibramgaunt?
Great video. Will love to see Ripper Swarms next.
Arch I’m balls deep in the gotrek and Felix books. We need a slayer video
He technically had one video from 8 years ago
@@jamesfreeman3617 I thought so. I looked but couldn’t find it. Didn’t he mention something about deleting a bunch of old videos?
@@hunterpowell2637 no it's still up put arch warhammer gortex and felix. It's twenty something minutes it's literally just called gotrex and felix
@@jamesfreeman3617 I wasn’t talking about a video about gotrek a Felix. I’ve seen that one already. I meant a slayer specific video
Huzzah! More Tyranid lore
God's blessings be upon the Lord Arch, and Happy new year. May it be a interesting one
I wonder how a hive fleet would fare against Vraks?
Probably great. One thing that was not noted here with the description of the Tyranid Invasion tactics is the fact that Genestealer Cults play major role in them, preparing for generations often, before starting to transmit signals to the Hive Fleet. With Vraks having basically 1 major strong point which is the Hive City and it's defensive lines, you would have nids dropping unopposed on most of the planet, securing footholds for the invasion (like Kriegsmen did) and Genestealer Cults uprising in the defensive lines and sabotaging obvious orbital defenses.
Nids are also QUITE proficient at borrowing and it wouldn't take them years to start doing exactly that with unopposed landings
Wouldn't it make sense to just stab the beetles with thick needle within seconds of getting hit by one? Then the wound could just be cleaned out and decontaminated or cauterized.
I had to pause the video and think for a few moments after Arch said The Tyrranids pretty much sends a swarm of pregnant women on a planet too parasitically suck out every last atom sized drop of bio-mass from sed planet in a blind suicidal blitzkrieg.
I've been watching Warhammer videos for a good few years at this point, and by now I've pretty much gotten used too the depraved and desperate absurdity of the whole thing. . . that line right there was one helluva slap ta the face, a needed one admittedly, but still. 8|
I get were the fleshy phalic AK's of the nids come from. But I really wish they would have been redesigned early on.
Oh well, one more oddity that makes 40k charming I guess.
NOW you release this, Arch? Really? Now?? Just after i spend the less two weeks wondering where's my amazing W40K lore in the end of the year to sleep to whilst i was sick?
Love it. Thank you
Great video always a banger when it comes to arch side note tho you put two r’s in tyranid bucko
I am dissapointed he didnt throw in - nom nomming like in the last tyranid videos 😂 its so suited for the tyranids
Hell yea Arch I’ll gladly watch anything you out but I really like the Tyranids in the lore them and the Orks, and the black Templars. Also without giving any spoilers can someone tell me if Gazkull is still kicking and in what book I can read about him? I know Yarrick is probably dead I’m just hoping my favorite Greenskin is still alive.
He is still kicking and got himself a nice new bigger body. Courtesy of painboy attaching his head into larger green nob. Just ork stuff.
I’ve read too many Cain novels to not regard even the most relatively weak of Tyranid bioforms as anything less than an apex predator-level threat to life and limb. The bloody spore drop-pods can wipe out entire squads of soldiers.
I mean, considering that ant-eater claws can go through concrete and are lethal for humans if they slash at you, the tyranids having such claws doesn't seem too far fetched
Mr. Arch ... if you have time have a look at a game "Ratopia" ... its "oxygen not included" but with Rats ... you gona love it.
"guardsman will be slaughtered unless they are dug in"
This is something that was shown in the later Starship troopers movies.. What good are trenches against a melee opponent.
Goes without saying with something that's gonna shoot at your center mass, if your largest target is below the ground.. But these things are just going to jump into your trench, aided by gravity now.
Also makes it harder for you to get out of position.. all I can see are pillboxes with murder slits making a mockery of the spiny ones.
I'm imagining being an officer in the guard listening to a lecture.
Will you do an episode on Sanguinius' kelpto sons the blood ravens?
😂I didn't know about the egg laying I wondered how the armour book from forge world were a few gaunts escaped and by the end a bio titan attacked the compound forgive me for forgetting the name I hang my head in shame loving the videos happy new year 🎉
This is off topic but your profile picture is terrifying, the graphics remind me of one of those ghastly google/Facebook cliparts but Its perfect for an evil child avatar in a game where he sicks the mods on people. Sort of like Bully in the metaverse. I want to use it.

Comment for Algoryth God... good to hear You Arch.
I wonder what would happen if tyranids met the arachnids from starship troopers
I don't know enough to tell you who would win. But I can absolutely tell you that whoever wins would be ultimately a MUCH more terrifying force after the battle.

YES! My second favourite faction and IRL army!
Comment to appease the hive mind and the omnissiah
You're with the Tyranid army in real life?? Oh by the Emperor, the Genestealers are here already!
Would the 'Neurogaunt' not render the 'Warrior' obsolete?
Being that the main function of the 'Warrior' is that of a bridge between the Hive mind and the Gaunt.
If the 'Neurogaunt' exists then the function of the 'warrior' becomes obsolete.
Meanwhile i highly doubt the 'current year' 40k devs think that miniscule amount of hard about it.
Gaunt's can't carry venom cannon's, warrior's can.
Will we be getting a Prima Gaunt?
