Great video. I just bought my dads old 4100. 1977 i think. I have to do all this myself now. I know its 2 years old but i love it when guys show the real world. Beatin and bangin, dropping sockets, trying not to cuss. Good job.

Great job and great video. I had to do the same thing on my 4000 about the same time you posted this video. I knew something was up when the top of my tires was rubbing the spindle. My spindle bushings were so worn that the spindles were worn to far to be reused. I ended up getting a burr and pneumatic die grinder and cutting a small groove in my bushings so I could drive them out. I got my spindles from a local tractor parts yard and they included all the bushings plus wheel bearings. Wouldn't you know it, when I pulled the hubs off the inner bearings fell apart in my hand. All new bushings and bearings and the old Ford drives like a champ. I wish I'd found your video before I did mine though, I could have used a few of your techniques and made life a little simpler for me.

Thanks, glad you got some info from the video. When I started working on my 5000, I noticed there weren't any videos on the subject, so I made one. Glad its helped some folks out. Sounds like someone squeezed about every ounce of life out of that steer axle! Good catch on the wheel bearings. It's crazy how metal can wear down to almost nothing!

Good info. My 5030 steering spindle snapped in two so this is invaluable info. I hope I don't have to replace the extension arm, it hasn't been maintained in the 20 years before I got it.

I am sure you will love your 5000. I have a 69 Ford 4000 and it is my pride and joy. I drove a 4000 when I was milking cows as a teenager, so it makes sense for me to seek one out. Thanks for the good repair video!

Thanks, since this video I have went all through the tractor, and have been using it for heavy mowing this summer! Check out my other videos....the 5000 has proven to be a very reliable work horse! Love the 60's models 5000, just something about the louvered hood and the rounded fenders make it look like a hot rod haha.
