I am a South African and watching this from a different point of view is staggering. Now do the fall of ESKOM, our electricity provider next!
The Guptas also contributed to the fall of Eskom (along with Transnet, SAA, countless others.) Fissionable material went missing from Pelindaba for f***'s sake...
@IntotheShadows After ESCOM, you can look at the railways...
After Transnet , look at the fall of the water supply infrastructure currently collapsing.
So many issues
.. an article was published this morning that outlines the outstanding money owed to Eskom by the City of Johannesburg and City Power which will result in power outages mid-December. They're owed R6.5 billion.. but there is a legal battle underway as to the validity of that debt.
When I saw this title, I thought we were talking about 490 CE on the Indian subcontinent. Thx for the education! I had no idea about this stuff.

The zuma and gupta saga always infuriates me. It shows how the legal system and loyal south africans tried time and again to protect the country, but corruption and greedy politicians hamstrung every effort. The Scorpions had flaws, but between them and the Public Protector we at least had SOMETHING to have faith in for a while. No longer
Oh, and a shout out to our media at the time. They fought, exposed and investigated a lot of this nonsense so well. To no avail, but they did their duty.
They were bad but feel like their shenanigans were blown out of proportion there’s still families in South Africa who have and still continue to capture the state
This is so different from the Indian government where the media actively supports cronies and do not investigate anything at all
there's this thing about Indians. from what i've observed, people here don't really respect the rule of law. they feel that their own worldview is superior.

Even Ramaphosa has been caught red handed with undeclared funds. He is trying to crush the case now...
Whatever, as long as you acknowledge that Zuma sold us out and crippled the country.
@tebugomajombozi1197 oh definitely. Hence that MK party is never going to get my vote.
"trying" ... The case never even got out the gates. The entire legal system is compromised since before the Zuma administration already. Without law enforcement and a legal system to support it, the ANC can simply do whatever they want. ...we won't even mention all their buddies.
A very good summation. It’s worth noting that the current president of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa , has been sitting within and influencing all ANC senior decision making bodies since 1991. The ANC has to date presided over at least $75 billion of corrupt gains (from taxpayers money) for its cadres and business associates. ‘State capture’ goes way beyond Jacob Zuma and corruption is still entrenched across all levels of government. Most of the ill-gotten gains now sit in Dubai and other offshore centers.

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

to Simon and the team thank yo for making this video in explaining the "lost years" of South Africa
As. South African , thanks for covering this👌🏻
The scary thing (as a South African) is that there is no reason any country cannot be “captured”. I am a citizen of 2 other “ first world countries “ and there is no reason that those countries cannot also be captured ( in fact I would suggest that many already are). At least South Africans took action in the election … None of us expect any “ criminal “ actions but we at least have learnt NEVER to trust a Government again. The economy and Rand have rebounded … things are not as they should be but they are better. Problem in the first world is that people still believe their governments are there to serve them … they are not … the pain is still to come.
Corruption stems far deeper than people know. OCCRP does great work in covering as much as they can though
Corruption is a sign of something much worse.
And now people want Zuma back to fight "white supremacy"
and "white monopolistic capital"
As much as I would like to believe that the Gupta’s and Zuma were the problem (and now they are gone), it’s not true. Unfortunately, it is the South African people who are the problem. At a fundamental level, a large portion of the South African population simply don’t care about the damage that is being done. If they did care they would vote for ethical political parties and politicians (they do exist). But they don’t. They complain about the issues, bemoan the crime and electricity problems, protest the corruption that takes place etc. But when the population as a whole has an opportunity to change the direction of the country at the ballot box, they show their true colours and side with ineptitude, corrupt politicians, and lawlessness. Zuma and the Gupta’s are the symptom, but the South African people are the ultimate cause of their own problems. Just like an alcoholic can only get sober when they recognise their addiction, South Africa will only improve when the people start to take accountability for their own shortcomings individually and start to make decisions that are actually in the best long term interests of themselves, their families, and their communities. Until the majority of people of South Africa start to live in a civic and productive way, this mess will continue. I truly hope that this can happen in my lifetime, but the odds aren’t good.
Why can't more government officials make their time in office about service? It's so tiresome and annoying to keep hearing about them neglecting their country and just generally using things and people till they break then throwing them away.
Just for future reference, 'th' in African SA languages is pronounced 'tuh' when followed by a 'u' so phonetically, Thuli is 'tuh-lee'. When followed by an 'a' it's 'tah', so Thabo is pronounced 'tah-bow'. In Afrikaans, like Theron, it 'teh' so it's 'teh-ron'. Great video.
Hi Simon, you rightly pointed out that Zuma failed the job seeking people of SA. However, during his time in office there were scandals in the education system. School books being dumped in rivers and not delivered to schools.
Local schools, in my area, sat 6 months of the school year with no books to work with. So in my opinion, Zuma has failed those kids even MORE!
Then again one needs to bare in mind. Ramaphosa was second in line to Zuma. So he knew exactly what was going on and should be charged as well for state capture.
The ANC is rotten to its core. Only if they the EFF and the MK disapaer form SA politics we have a future in this country.
They don't need to disappear. We just need a government that actually functions and does not take nonsense from those political parties. The problem is this: too many politicians in the anc, eff and mk have too many skeletons in their closets, and the comrades know about them all.
A really good summary . I guess when literally daily there is a new corruption case exposed here, it would be impossible to do more than a summary!
I hope we all know that it doesn't matter who is in the 'top job' because this is a systemic problem - greed. We have allowed many of our economic sectors, to take advantage of the American people. It's disgusting and frightening for the future of our country. My husband and I will be retiring in the next two years n another country. We are absolutely worried that SSI will no longer be funded. we'll have to rely on his pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific Investment account with my Tracy Britt Cool Consulting my FA. Our national debt is bloating and expanding every month. Our government needs to get spending under control and cut the federal budget.
I'm 56 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.
I feel your pain mate, as a fellow retiree, I'd suggest you look into passive index fund investing and learn some more. For me, I had my share of ups and downs when I first started looking for a consistent passive income so I hired an expert advisor for aid, and following her advice, I poured $30k in value stocks and digital assets, Up to 200k so far and pretty sure I'm ready for whatever comes.
In the 80's my Dad worked a modest job, Mom stayed at home and raised the kids, and they lived a nice middle class lifestyle including owning a home. Nowadays both I and my partner works and can barely afford to make ends meet. Soon the kids and family dog will need to work to keep this household going. It's the destruction of the American dream right before our eyes.
If you are not in the financial market space right now, you are making a huge mistake. I understand that it could be due to ignorance, but if you want to make your money work for you...prevent inflation

This is exactly what is happening in Kenya rn. State corporations being leased out to an Indian company, Adani group, for periods like 30yrs. Whoever heard of selling your own airport to a company known for it's corruption scandals.
There is a similar story in South Africa where all the rights to mine natural gas(.?) had been secretly sold. The sell was only found out when the government wanted to sell the rights and found that they had already been sold😅
Countries with low GDP tend to often make deals with either private corporations or countries. As long as the government making the deal with a foreign entity isn't corrupt it can be beneficial in creating jobs and wealth. But sadly everyone is out to fill their pockets when they are in politics.
We're truly cooked as a country. What makes it worse is that the Treasury CS declared that "more Adani type deals are preferred by these crooks." State capture not even for the highest bidder any more, just who will give the politicians a bugger cut.
@@garronfish8227 Were these rights given to TotalEnergies by any chance?
Th Adanis did the same shit in India. Whenever they wanted to buy an airport or a port, the owners just happened to be investigated by govt agencies and were forced to sell. Just a coincidence but the Prime Minister is very close to the Adanis.

Quite an accurate account. Zuma and those like him have immature and juvenile mentalities, which require instant gratification. Zuma was led by the nose by Schabir Shaik and the Guptas with promises of riches. Not mentioned were the July 2021 "Zuma riots". Zuma was sentenced to 15 months jail in June 2021 by the Constitutional Court for contempt for defying its order to appear at the State Capture Inquiry. In July, thousands of people, mainly in his province of KZN, went on the rampage, burning and looting stores. The police were caught flat-footed and could not contain the rioters. Private security companies and armed civilians stepped into the breach, guarding businesses and property and over 300 people were killed. I don't think it made much news internationally. SA has really been infested by a giant criminal enterprise.
Such is the tale of the majority of Sub-Saharan Africa. Corruption is the bane of developing nations.
To date, not even one person implicated in this, has faced any charges. Its treason.
It's embarrassing how South Africa craziness has made it international, like I've been a fan of the UA-cam Simon Whistler multiverse for sometime now but this feels personal. But than again his writer is a white fellow South African so this tracks
The writer's skin colour is relevant how?
Should have stopped at international, now you're making a fool of yourself by being blatantly racist.
If you replace white with black and it sounds racist, it’s because the original statement is racist.
@@tamfuwing1 white south african expats tend to be reminiscent of a time when the country was functioning like a first world country
These people were able to do this because they were extraordinarily talented and motivated. Imagine if only they had put all that capabilities they had for the good of others, that country would've been rich. It always baffled me as to why the most capable of us turn out to be corrupt and selfish.
Imagine being that rich and still being named doo doo
😂😂😂😂 thanks 😊
So thinking that the name "Duduzani" might have a meaning is hard?
I can't stand him or his twin....
@@spheleleNgubane-i4w No. It's just funny in the english language.
Reading something as a joke is hard for you though, clearly.
A similar marriage happened recently in India when the Jamnagar airport was converted from military to international airport for the guests of a big business family.
Based baniya 🔥
20:54 I have to correct you here. Zuma has been to court and found guilty during the COVID times. It was during that time that a bunch of looters took to the streets in Natal. They looted a bunch of shopping centres and ammunition and weapons at Durban harbour. Zuma was released from prison on health issues, thanks to the ANC, before he even set foot in prison.
🤦🏾♀️... Yah neh the Zuptas (Jacob Zuma and the Guptas) truly did a number on South Africa.
Excellent breakdown of the Gupta/Zuma state capture.
Now Zuma has the MK party and is gaining strength! Can you believe the foolishness of the public!
A one-party state, what could possibly go wrong?
The scary thing (as a South African) is that there is no reason any country cannot be “captured”. I am a citizen of 2 other “ first world countries “ and there is no reason that those countries cannot also be captured ( in fact I would suggest that many already are)
Simon Sensei, if you thought JZ and the Guptas were bad news, kindly beam your torchlight on Nigeria and you would get a shocker!
Then again, how did emigrants that came in at the tail-end of apartheid making a living off shoe sales become so powerful that no one sneezed in South Africa without their permission? Unless the shoe sales was simply a front........
holy shit i never expected to see a video like this on youtube ever
When it comes to scamming, it's always the same people.
Cause western and Chinese corporations haven’t done this to other African countries??
Yep, its the south Africans, the guptas left India in 1993 and have been south african or UAE nationals ever since. They started all of their businesses and scams in south africa only. Blame your people, for electing corrupt ones.
You do know that justifies nothing. Also, the original comment is racist and merits no response, less so any response not addressing the racism but resorting to whataboutism. And if anything, India right now is way more crony than South Africa@@Adi-bo5do
