    You can now preorder the Kurzgesagt Immune System book! “IMMUNE - A Journey into the Mysterious System That Keeps You Alive”: kgs.link/ImmuneBook
    IMMUNE is a fascinating and fun journey through your own body, where we’ll be exploring mystery organs, murder universities, your enemies from viruses, bacteria and cancer (and how your immune system might have killed a cancer cell while you were reading the last few sentences) and the incredibly beautiful and amazing parts, cells and systems that keep you alive. After reading it you should not only gain a new appreciation for your own body but also experience disease differently. Also 45 illustrated pages by the Kurzgesagt team make the book very pretty.

    It's very difficult to put in words how motivating this is for me as a med student who's lost lots of my initial drive because of my university's covid coping mechanisms. The complementary system was an especially hard lesson for me to understand considering the absurd amount of random letters and numbers I've had to memorize. Really, thank you for sparking the motivation in me again.

    Presumably you've already thought of this, but I'm curious to see a video on what happens when the immune system is overwhelmed and the cut becomes majorly infected and you have take antibiotics, that would be really interesting

    • @cockatoo010
      @cockatoo010 Рік тому +25

      Most common antibiotics are not bactericidal, but bacteriostatic, this means that they don't kill bacteria, but they prevent them from reproducing. In the end the infection will be taken care of by the immune system but the presence of antibiotics is a massive help.
      This is also why you don't interrupt your antibiotic treatment as soon as you feel better, if you do, you are allowing the static bacterial population to once again begin reproducing and this will hurt your immune systems chances. Even more because when you feel bad and restart the antibiotics, the bacteria will have adapted and developed resistance!
      I do agree that this would be a good addition to the immunology series from this channel!

    Very interesting that the cells in our body have a biological IFF like we do in the modern battlefield for just about almost every combat capable ship, plane, and vehicle.

    I think this could actually be a fun videogame. Some players are bacteria/viruses and some are immune system parts. They both have to addapt to counter eachother, and some players can do like combos together to build stronger units, and... yeah that would be cool.

    Someone should make an RTS game where you play as an immune system. That would be really cool.

      Ok hear me out. It's a battlle royale. 1000000000000000000 players on each server. The goal is to either attack the cells or defend them 10000000000 players will be on the defensive side and the others will be bacteria. Who ever takes over the 1 cm of human body wins

      An RTS where you have no direct control over any units and each unit's chance of performing an interaction is probabilistic instead of of deterministic would definitely be interesting.

      @BEEP The Robot You watching this video supports them :D It increases a relevance/popularity value stored for every UA-cam video, which places the recommendation for this video higher in the list. Also they earn money if you watch the ads.
