Doctors are regularly incorrect as well and its hard to say whether or not they're your best shot at solving a problem. It really depends. I would say consider all the information you're given, including videos on the internet, as they can easily teach you things about a problem that doctors/nurses simply don't have time to explain. Though, having a doctor's opinion won't hurt... probably.

Doctors aren't trustworthy either, they fuck up all the time. Best strategy would be to listen to multiple doctors and consider the opinion of the majority but that's rarely viable.

Best thing you can do is vet doctors and find one that has your best interest. Some care about your well-being. A lot are legal drug dealers and your body is a walking cash cow. Do your own research. We all have the ability to critically think. Use it! Only recently we have been told to not research and give up total anatomy control. You only have one body. Guard it with your life. Otherwise you won’t have one.

    • @djones02
      @djones02 28 днів тому +208

One of my mind blowers was the fact that most diseases aren't named after the specific germ they are named after the symptoms your body has or the location.
I always assumed that doctors looked at your symptoms, diagnosed your problem as this specific virus and gave you the medication for it.
Nope! They often just treat the symptoms or use broad antibiotics and hope the body fights it off.
A lot of medicines are to counteract the side-effects of the other drugs you are on if they are really nasty.
My daughter was less than a day old and was rushed into the NICU.
She spent several weeks fighting an unknown infection.
They never figured out what the infection was and said she had Sepsis.
I looked up what Sepsis was and it's basically the body hurting itself from fighting an infection.

Pro tip from experience. And I barely get fever and it’s not super bad if I do. Wrap yourself up. With loads of water next to your bed. Sweat it out. Help your body with increasing your temperature while not exhausting the energy resources. Plenty of hydration and in one night fever is gone. Even do this for common cold. Sniffles? Sore throat, coughing? Anything cold related. Wrap up in bed, hot tea, sweat it out. And you’re good as gold in no time.
Told this tip to a colleague, she had an ongoing cold for couple of weeks. No fever. I told her to sweat it out. Next time I saw her. She felt the difference. 😊👍
I’m with fever on this one. Will keep in mind to avoid anything with meds in it. Just vitamins and tea 🙌

I had the flu a year ago and couldn't sleep during to the fever. Avoiding fever reducers was something I was told to do because fever fights infections, which makes sense. I spent a few sleepless nights in absolute misery, almost feeling more sick with each day that passed. It actually took administering some ibuprofen to settle the fever enough to get some rest, which helped me recover much quicker.
I hope people understand that despite fever being an important immunological response, sleep is still necessary for recovery. If your pain is too great, please take something for it. You'll probably feel better and recover faster. :)

Well, for most of the world I'd say - go to the doctor and follow their advice.
Usually, it's the same as the video suggested - if your fever is over ~40C take the anti-fever medication, otherwise don't, but if the fever lasts more than a few hours straight to the point when you cannot rest - contact doctor for further advice.
It's normal and expected to have a bit of a problem with sleeping or rest when sick.
If it's too much probably there is a reason for that which needs to be investigated.
Wharever effected you was likely not "just" common cold (adeno/rhinovirus), there is no way to know now.
You most likely started using the drug when the infection was almost over but the immune system lags behind. Have you done it firsthand, the story could have been very different.
Unfortunately if you are in a country where healthcare is unaffordable (like US), or ineffective (like China) or just does not exists (much of central Africa) you're on your own to judge how to proceed. Each situation is different, and so is treatment.

When I was in my 20s, I had a fever of 41C for about 2 days before I was taken to the hospital. It was so bad I was hallucinating. The dr said that less than 1C higher and I would have started getting brain damage. Later, when I was in the army; I suffered from heat stroke a few times and my body has never been able to regulate my temperature properly since. It really sucks. Imagine not being able to work out, do things you used to enjoy, or even just go outside on warm days without instantly getting sick and throwing up because your body can't tolerate a temperature just a few degrees above normal.
The difference between a fever that someone can just get over and one that can be severe enough to alter your life is so close that it is better safe than sorry and just go to a dr.

I’m so sorry you have to deal with it. I have temp regulation problems due to a genetic thing. I hate summer because of it, and I live in the Southern US. I basically have to stay inside all summer and even going to a doctor’s appointment is really hard; I had a fever for two days after getting out last time.
I also have chronic pain and heat helps, but if I fall asleep with the heating pad on, I wake up with a fever, soaked through, and miserable.
But because of my other health issues I also get fevers just from stress. I had a fever for three months straight before my wedding, during the height of COVID, so I couldn’t get my dress altered for the longest time.
People seem to not get how much it impacts what you do. I don’t even like eating very hot food (especially soups or pasta or mashed potatoes) because I’m hot for like an hour after I eat. It’s ridiculous!

The magic of the solutions is mitigated by the idea that there were 100 billion of us who have lived and died as trial and error of just our species, and seriously countless others of our progenitors before them. So a fine tuned system makes total sense with virtually any solution to any issue. But the enormous magnitude of "effort" getting us to here is still quite incredible all its own.

There's a video by kurz that tells all possible microbes in life even those that aren't discovered yet to man have an antithesis. In theory, one can survive literally every single pathogen, including the absolute deadliest, provided the immune system knows how to deal with it. The problem lies on the fact that the immune system doesn't have the knowledge on everything. It can create the solution and it has all the tools, it just doesn't know how to do it.

    • @NZBigfoot
      @NZBigfoot 5 днів тому

The other main issue is time... some infections and diseases overwhelm the body quicker than it can activate the counter measure. Its that week, week and a half period where you're body is identifying and making the anti bodies that gets ya... if the invader can do lethal damange to you in that time, then you're screwed, which s why Ebola and the like is so bad... before you're ready to fight back you've taken to much damage to vital organs to survive.

One thing I’ve learned from pharmacy school, is that if you are ever unsure as to whether you should use an anti-pyretic (anti fever) drug such as Tylenol, you can always contact your local pharmacist and they can give you some guidance such as whether it’s ok to stay home and rest vs. should you go to the doctor. They can also advise you on when you should and shouldn’t take Tylenol or other anti-fever medications.
While I am not comfortable going over the guidelines I’ve learned in school here since I have not yet passed my NAPLEX (the USA pharmacy national certification exam) I am comfortable saying that part of a pharmacist’s training involves multiple courses in “self care therapeutics”, which involves steps to identifying what is and is not an immediately refer to doctor type of illness. I wish everyone here to stay happy and healthy and please wish me luck as I continue with my pharmacy training ^^

You are semi right, medicines are best to fix the inmune system doing stupid stuff that is self destructive or to control out of control infections that you can't fight back. Well and vacciness which are like training manuals for your inmune system so it can get strong before even being infected, usually this is good for disseases that leave bad permanent side effects even if your inmune system can eventually defeat the main dissease or for disseases that kill you before your inmune system can fight it back.
Most medicines are symptomatic to make yourself functional by disabling sysmtoms that your inmune system created to fight, this actually makes the illness slightlyt worse but allows you to not have to rest even if you feel like shit longer.

I think the same, my grandma and mother used to take pills (to combat fever) always and soon I realized they needed more everytime. Something inside my mind told me that wasnt good so I started to take medicine only when I can barely think, refusing theirs offers. Now when I get sick (like amost never) I take 1 pill when feeling TOO bad and get better. I didnt even got COVID or if I got it never realize it was (never feel too bad like my friends told me it was, or lost smells or taste).
The only thing I suffer a lot is bacterial tonsillitis, there was a time I got ill every other month, detected it was when I smoked in outside cold nights. That was like 5 years ago. Remember one time I got 39C fever for like 2 days and cant even open my eyes or think, still didnt take medicine for fever only antibiotics.
Now my girlfriend works with little children so she is ill almost everytime (in winter) and take a pill for almost everything. When she infect me I get one day mildly ill and then restored.
I get people take medicine to keep being functional but I think is bad on the long run. Luckily I have a job where I can say I feel bad and they let you rest for the day without medical license.

When it comes to children, fever is thought to be more important than in adults (and why theirs are higher): they haven't been alive long enough to train their immune system against common pathogens in their environment. The don't even yet have the full array of antibodies (this takes until around age 10). So the body has to rely on the means available. But I also 100% understand with parents who are watching their kid suffer and assume that must be the worst thing, even if it isn't. =/

The last time I was properly ill, I developed a pretty intense fever. I called out of work, but since I work in a right-to-work-for-nothing state in the US, my work told me I either had to go in, or go to the doctors right then and there.
It was the middle of summer, and feeling lethargic and miserable, I got into my car.
Almost instantly I stopped shivering, felt way more lively, and stopped wishing for my life to end then and there. The inside of the car was boiling hot, usually I start expiring instantly, but I drove all the way to the doctors with the windows up and the AC off, and felt almost like I wasn’t sick. Didn’t sweat a single bead.
I’m not saying this was a good thing to do, I’d much rather have stayed in bed and continued wishing that the world would have the decency to stop existing for a few moments, but it was an interesting phenomenon.

If you can keep your body warm enough to reduce stress of your body producing the heat, you can get rid of the shivers and some of the lethargy. Another way I love is to take a near scalding-hot shower for 5 minutes. No shivers, skin pain is gone, headache mostly gone. But, you should definitely lie in bed afterwards because hot water can trigger your body to cool down.

There is a bit of an issue in this video, (*sorry I hate to be that guy I know you all work really hard to research this topic*), and don't get me wrong I love a good evolution-defying system, is that while Fever IS difficult to adapt to, it's not even marginally difficult enough to justify why Fever is so ubiquitously effective in nature.
Some context for this; Microorganisms evolve orders of magnitude faster than we do, and the evolutionary arms race between those who adapt for high temperatures or low temperatures does exist of course, but that explains only the statistical likelyhood of being infected by fever-resistant bacteria.
But if you noticed, we almost never encounter fever-resistance in bacteria, which doesn't make sense unfortunately for the theory, because the expected result should be rarer instances of slower-spreading viral infections who are fever-resistant.
That's not to say that the theory posed in this video isn't widely accepted, it is, but that doesn't make it correct.
An extremely important context-clue that should indicate why this theory is fundamentally flawed is stated earlier in this video.
As you mentioned, there are many microorganisms that can adapt and even thrive in much, much higher temperatures than we could EVER produce inside of our bodies.
Another, and even more troubling consideration for this theory, and in the same slide as the previous one; These microorganisms have demonstrated that they can adapt, do adapt, and can even thrive in very wide temperature ranges, including the entire temperature range that our bodies are capable of.
So, you might be asking, why is high fever-resistance such an unusual adaptation?
Here in lies the part that you guys missed in the video, its not about the adaptations nearly as much as it is about the thermodynamics of microscopic life.
Let me explain, the vast majority of evolutionary adaptations change the proteins that the organism will produce in a given set of circumstances, it is absolutely essential to all organisms to produce proteins that are suitable to their environment, not only so that protein itself can function, but to restructure the non-protein systems appropriately when the environment changes.
All biological systems (proteins, receptors, signaling molecules, DNA, membranes, etc.) function under an optimal temperature, and going outside this temperature can quickly cause systems to slow down, fail, or even disintegrate, which is why most cells have redundent systems AND can ensure Homeostasis by quickly producing a new, or altering an existing system when they detect a change in conditions.
But to do so, they essentially out-mode the entire system that existed before the change, while having to produce a new one, and this is a very energetically expensive process for the organism.
Multiply that process by the number of failing systems and you can see why microorganisms get "Stressed" by the heat changes in a fever, particularly because microorganisms are so competitive that they prioritize optimal conditions and NOT rapid-adaptability.
This also answers why our temperatures only have to change a few degrees, the AMOUNT of heat change is relevant only to the extent that Microorganisms "optimal" conditions are violated, forcing them to invest resources in producing new systems, we can't actually exceed the RANGE they could adapt too, and we don't have too, we only have to change it JUST enough to force them out of their comfort zone.
It all circles back to thermodynamics; the problem is not ADAPTATION as much as it is ECONOMY.
As said in the video, our bodies have vast energy stores that can be exploited to drastically raise the temperature of our bodies, but ALSO have lots of energy reserves so that OUR cells can create all the molecules and new proteins necessary to adapt to the new, very hot environment.
This is NOT the case for our parasitic guests, Microorganisms have a very limited resource pool, even IF they were already adapted to be capable of changing into a more heat-compatible form, they still need to expend resources, resources they don't have, to USE those adaptations.
Here lies the reason that Fever can be such a small shift in conditions and is still so universally effective.
It is simply a one-sided battle of SIZE, a game of attrition that the tiny microorganisms CAN'T win unless they can kill us and eat us faster than they die.
Our bodies enter energy-starvation the moment fever hits, it becomes a battleground with our cells over the resources that both they and our cells need to adapt and survive.
Additionally, the parasites must not only survive but also reproduce very quickly in order to not be wiped out by our immune system, so as stated in the video, they have to reproduce, kill us, and adapt at the same time.
One important part of this is that fever fluctuates throughout the day you're sick, going from very hot to almost normal body temperture, and this causes the invaders to constantly have to sink more resources into this process than just changing once.
To conclude; Microorganisms cannot overcome Fever, and it is not primarily due to competitive evolutionary pressure as stated in the video. Fever is not really about defying Microorgansism's ability to adapt, its actually attrition warfare, the Microorgansisms are Napolean and your body is 1812 Russia.

I think the video explains it pretty well. Bacteria that adapt to resist fever don’t function as well in a healthy person. It’s a classic stabilizing selective force where they stay in a specific range because adapting in either direction is a disadvantage.

From a doctor's perspective: always take your fever medicine as prescribed if prescribed on time.
Certain fever medication in combination with antibiotics can also reduce inflammation. Reducing inflammation early on can help reduce damage and recovery period. It might be a good idea to rest anyway and stay warm when on fever medications. Inflammation early treatment can reduce recovery to 3 days/immediately for something that could have been 10 days, a month, or chronic/permanent.

    • @trololkhil9868
      @trololkhil9868 28 днів тому +10

agreed. Generally speaking viruses will rarely shoot up above 39-40C and are probably the best bugs to maintain a fever for especially if it doesn't interfere with sleep. Bacterial infections are more amenable to antipyretics because of the link to inflammation which helps with the delivery of your antibiotic and reduces the chance of cytokine storms. In that case controlling the fever outweighs the downsides (bacteria are also less affected by fever).
Fever that doesn't go down with antipyretics (or lasts more than 3-5 days) is also likely to involve a more serious infection and needs to be kept on top of as it could shift towards mengitis, septicaemia, pneumonia etc. The reverse is also true it may be the case that you have no fever but still have a very serious infection so it's not a golden rule...always ask your dr/second opinions for decisions involving health.

    • @trololkhil9868
      @trololkhil9868 28 днів тому +1

@@VaibhavSharma-uu1om Think of fever like an optimisation for a "normal" immune system to gain additional benefits...
However, there is no general advice for an abnormal immune system, because the effects will be different depending on the abnormality.
For example a hyperactive immune system can benefit from antipyretics, but a hypoactive/senescent immune system may benefit more from fever.
It all depends on the exact root cause and your status etc. It's why you need a dr to make this decision for you.
