My grandparents introduced me to this album in the mid 70`s at their home in Tarzana California during one of their many cocktail parties that they threw. Of course, I was only about 15 and thought that the likes of Grand Funk Railroad and the Steve Miller Band were the only things worth listening to, but is soon found myself entranced by the smoking sounding Saxophone of Getz and that Bossa Nova sound, and to this day, when I play this album, I think of them and how they opened a door to an exciting musical adventure that I would not have found without them.

My musical journey was influenced by my parents and two older brothers...its amazing how our invironments can influence how and who we are in so many different ways. Thank you very much for viewing my video and your comments 😀

@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews Yes! My grandparents also broke out some Big Band music and Swing, and as hard as I tried to, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller and the others never did do much for me although I kind of like Swing a bit. I do marvel at the talent that they all had I am sad that we are slowly losing a lot of music to computers and Autotune. I fear that one day all the music will be about how someone looks and they will program an image with music around them, that is why I hit as many concerts as I can while they and I are still kicking! Thanks for your time!

Also the mixes were different back in the day for vinyl. So small rig or big rig means a lot concerning old recordings

Kenny really enjoed your comparison video on Stan Getz I have the regular CD Verve Master Edition which I believe was issued in 1997 and Astrud's vocal is on the right side also

Tower in the 80s had a lot of Japanese pressings of classic jazz albums, including this one. They were, until recently, the best reissues to be had. But comparing them to the AP 45 and 33 series they sound a bit bright and thin. Never cared for the MGM pressing, but for a long time it was all we had. Have not compared the digital ones.

A well known mastering engineer stated that the treble boost (bringing out details on the vocals) on that first US SACD is more than a bit unnatural for the over-all recording balance of that recording. A warmer sound is how the album was meant to sound. Older listeners may need a tad bit of a treble boost at any rate..

Had an OG, AP 33, and AP 45....Thought the OG MGM was much older-sounding than other LPs from its era, and AP33/AP45 sounded extremely similar. 45 is a bit of a pain over the 33 in my view in terms of the listening experience & continuity. So I sold the rest and I stick with the AP 33....This is one of those cases where I found that the high-end reissues really do smoke the OGs

I agree...the AP reissues are better and if you don't like turning over 45 RPM records then the AP 33 is the best option for sure

Funny thing. Last week I found a copy of this album in the bins at the local thrift shop in very decent condition. Also a Sarah Vaughn double on Roulette that is in even better condition. Mostly they got stuff like Christmas music, religious music and Lawrence Welk type stuff from these estates. Usually alot of the stuff I get excited to spot turns out to be damaged or something. The Getz has a few ticks in it even after ultrasonic cleaning but is totally listenable and I was surprised that it sells for a premium for original pressings.

I love going to the thrift stores when I can to look for albums as you never know when you will find some hidden gems 😁

@@kennysaudiophilerecordreviews I get in there once a month or so. The other day I stopped at a garage sale and this old dude was selling a huuuge mass of LPs and CDs. He said he was a collector and all the records were in fine or excellent condx. I bought a couple but it was killing me cause he had hundreds and I just did not have the hours to spend looking in all the cardboard boxes. What I did get was a dollar per LP! Good clean records too. This Verve record is an MGM pressing. Not bad but like you said, I have heard Ipanema played somewhere and it really popped out and was somehow better than this LP. Kinda too laid back.

I feel that here we are comparing devices and taste habits rather than the characteristics of recordings, SACD does have nuances, if not maybe the hardware doesn't play them
