I have a 2019 TTRS and absolutely love it! Having previously owned an RS3 Sportback and a RSQ3 Sportback, the TTRS is the pick of the bunch with the 5 cylinder IMO. Yes the new RS3 has much better driving dynamics but the TT looks so much better and the interior quality is excellent whereas the newer Audi interior plastic quality is going downhill! If you don’t need the back seats and want an all year round pocket rocket then the TTRS takes some beating, a very special car as you mention 👍🏻
I have a MK3 TT, and I feel the same passion that Jennifer feels.😊 There is absolutely no comparison when you take everything into account. Don't get me started on the layout and order if the buttons, or how the lane change assist light blinks from inside shell of the mirror. Audi went all out on the MK3. I would assume the passion multiplies for the TTRS. I'm in the process of upgrading to a TTRS. Don't worry Jen, I will drive it to hell and back, in honor of the one you sold. 😢
Phenomenal comparison test, one of the best I’ve ever read. I am in the market for a 2018-‘22 TTRS. A friend suggested that I also consider the RS3. Nope! The 450lb weight difference alone is a deal-breaker, but all of the other contrasts that you outlined (particularly the suspension) only reinforced my focus. You guys rock!! Thank you!!
Thanks for watching and glad you enjoyed this review. You will NOT be disappointed in the TTRS...period! The car is a sleeper supercar in every sense. And, to top it all off, it has more room than an R8. ;) Hope you find a great example and can enjoy it for years. I will say that we are excited to get into the updated RS3 since they've done a few tweaks, but you're making the right choice. Appreciate your comment!
Great vid! As a owner of a TT RS, if you like the feel of a rear wheel drive push like the new rs3 does, make sure to always put the TTRS in Sport traction mode, which lets the car feel more playfull and lets the rear cone out 30°ish when pushing it. (Lets the wheels spin in all 4 and now power limiter or take over.) In this mode you can also do a launch vs turning all aid off, which can make you lose control of the vehicle in extreem situations.) Ohh and stage 2 tune is a must / minimum. really wakes the car up even more. I am going stage 3 in the near future towards 700 / 800 HP range.
Definitely something up with that rs3. I have the new 8y uk spec sedan and it definitely doesn't have lag like that from a non launch, brake to gas start.
Great channel. Guys try in the description or in hashtags part, put many tags like #supercar #sportcar #ferrari, Audi, Lamborghini and so on...all the best automotive groups & car giants. Name of cars.etc I guess we- all the users of UA-cam who love cars, found this channel absolutely accidentally. But if it were many hashtags i think the channel would be in recommended after top car channels. Anyway great channel. Good luck with promoting it 👍🏼
After watching this video i decided to go with a 2019 TTRS. Just seemed like the better project car and everyone who drives one seems to be having a blast!
Went from the S3 (2015) to an 8V RS3 and just picked up an 8Y 2024 RS3 and I absolutely love it. Can't wait to fit the 18" Blizzaks on this and take on the Wisconsin winters head on!
Congrats!! PERFECT car for our Wisconsin winters! What color did you roll with? And I have to say, love your name on here. Bucks in 6 indeed!! Our daughter and her fiancé were at that game!
@@WeAreMotorDriven Had no real reason to trade the 8V in, but the dealer called and gave me first right of refusal on the 8Y allocation that someone turned down, but I had no ability to alter it. Luckily it was spec'd exactly how I wanted (RS Tech, Black Optics, Sport Exhaust and Side Assist) in Daytona Gray. I really like the color of it, not as flashy as the Green or Yellow, but wanted something different from the black I have had for nearly 10 years. Will only need a spacer to help with the fitment of the winters in the front. These things are tanks with Blizzaks, absolute blast to drive in 12" or more of snow! My wife and I talked about going to game 6, wasn't the money so much but just decided to host a neighborhood party for 20 people in the backyard with the 100" projector screen. I am surprised the police weren't called that night!!! Go Bucks! Love the channel!
I have the TTRS 2022 and my best friend has the RS3 2023! And both are tuning at 580 HP! From MTR performance! They are rockets really! So my opinion is that the TTRS is more beautiful and super car! The only thing the RS3 it’s better is the brakes and the drift mode! Nothing else! But both are amazing cars!
Tuned up to 580?! And I thought the TT RS was a rocket ship at stock. Don't get whiplash when you launch that thing! Your opinion is spot on. Enjoy and thanks for tuning in!
RS3 might have that extra 7HP but the TT RS weighs 320lbs lighter. Even after this video I still don't know which I would pick if I could afford one 😅👍
Haven driven both they are both pretty much the same with speed, the RS3 handles a bit nicer with less oversteer but the biggest difference is with smoothness, the RS3 feels more refined and is nicer to driver where as the TTRS is a bit more violent if you could say that and definitely the ride is very hard. You would take the RS3 over the TTRS if you were to drive it regularly
I had a 2021 TTRS and now have the new RS3 sportback. The RS3 is the better car by some margin. The TT is pretty old now and it shows. I will say the TT is still the best looking and has a better driving position. But the biggest issue with that TTRS is the brakes, really poor if you lean on them too much. I have the ceramics on my RS3, just excellent.
Congrats on the Sportback! Those are so good looking!! We agree that the TT RS is showing its age, but oh my word is it still good. ;) Thanks for watching!
Just test dove and bought a 2007 3.2 TT DSG, is very smooth even at cruising speed. I also own a TT RS manual, which is a bit tricky to shift well, especially in sports mode.
The TTRS is rated in Europe at 294 Kilowatts which is 399.72873 metric horsepower, however, that converts to 394.26049 mechanical horsepower which is the measurement used in the US. For the RS3, the US version has a slightly less restrictive factory exhaust then the European version so it gains a little bit of power at 401 mechanical horsepower or 406.56173 metric horsepower. If we could just have a signal "world standard" for power, it would avoid a lot of confusion!
Look up C&D Lightning Lap for both cars, the 8Y RS3 is the clear winner (better rwd in corners) and it's about $15k cheaper. Plus it's more practical. These cars are very sensitive to fuel quality, to get mid 3s you need minimum 93 and cool day (no heat soak)
We would agree. Have seen C&D’s numbers and we were surprised by the RS3’s numbers. It was a good day (low 70’s) and 93 octane. So we had the right formula, but the cookies weren’t what we hoped for.
Press car that was probably thrashed and not broken in properly. Need to change oil early and often and not load excessive heat into the motor too fast. There are several bone stock 8Ys in the 11s in the 1/4. Wait until they unlock the ECU and unleash 550+ whp with that superior drive system

The TTRS has a slightly shorter wheelbase than the RS3 and the body panels are aluminum, which may be where the base price difference originates.
The lambo V10 is actually an Audi V10, originally.
