  • The Audi TT RS Iconic Edition is the last ever Audi TT. After 25 years Audi are killing off the Audi TT. A car very close to my hear having owned a Mk1 and a Mk2. My big regret is never owning a Mk3 and in particular a TT RS.
In this video I take a look back at the Audi TT story and put the TT RS Iconic Edition through it's paces. The final hurrah for the TT.

Owned my Mk3 TTRS for 5 years now. 3 years longer than any of the Porsche, AMG or Aston I had previously. It fits so many roles that I can’t find any 1 car to replace it.

Only thing I genuinely hate about the tt rs is the fact the rear seat does not match the front. Its bugged me since I had a mk3 tts back in 2016. They throw the standard rear bench in all of them. Completely different stitching to the front!😂
Yet NO ONE ever talks about it.

Had one of the very first TT Mark I coupes for twenty years and 250,000 miles. I loved that car but sadly its time had come to replace it. Struggled with getting a Cayman, but the lack of cargo space and need for a winter driver turned me back to another TT. This time I got a 2013 TTRS. ( The other years were all automatics and I just couldn’t live with that.). So the TTRS I have is a screamer. I love it also. It’s fast and cool and expensive to repair, but I’m a happy guy with it. Still, the old TT Mark I was something very special in my life.

Got me a TT RS in late 2017, still no OPF but the better front brakes. I still love this car and do not see me selling at at any point in the future. I do visit the italian alps once a year and this car is a blast driving the mountain passes with engagement. It will get old with me. And having a Golf R as my every day drive the RS still is in a almost new condition, only 27.000 kms on the clock. Best buy I ever made in cars.

I have a TTRS, TTS (both MK3's), and a 718 Cayman. In total I've had 4 TT's. You are correct in your assumption that the Porsche is an overall better driving experience. By most accounts, my TTRS is far and away a better car in terms of tech, interior, HP, room, Quattro, etc. However, more often than not, I'll grab the 718's key fob.

Would never dismiss the TTRS or its close relative RS3..both great cars and last of their generations. If you drive them you are fully aware of their capabilities. Unfortunately I think they get stereotyped with the demographic who drive them especially as they get passed down the food chain . Personally prefer the chassis dynamics of the 4.0GTS that I now drive at weekend. Both fabulous engines though and to be celebrated as long as possible

My daughter has just bought a MK3 TT S-Line TDi Ultra and its a cracking little car (ok, no RS like my RS3) but great all the same. I struggle to understand where the extra £30k has gone towards in the Iconic Edition when it is purely cosmetic. I could just about understand if it was 10k but 30k????? I would have expected more power, carbon buckets, trick suspension etc etc.

Audi have obviously decided to kill off the ICE, I just tried to buy a new S3 I have a white one and configured one in red the only colour I liked after an hour discussing the spec and cost they they tell me red is discontinued, I gave up, I’ve also discovered you can’t get the RS3 in a hatchback, Audi just dont care, I cannot bring myself to go EV 🥲

    • @eugenux
      @eugenux 4 місяці тому +2

Audi is in the business of making posh luxury cars and EVs lend themselves perfect to this category.
I'm sure once the battery tech is good enough, they will try to get back to making some sort of a sports(-ish) car but, for now, the numbers probably don't add up enough to justify development and production lines and thus, they decided to kill the R8 and the tt.
They don't do rallies so a homologation special a-la gr yaris cannot happen, they don't do gt3 so, a car a-la gt3(/rs) cannot and happened and their name isn't ferrari so, a 300+k coupe with audi badge will not sell(will have limited sales, to be more correct); although, coupes are making a comeback, which actually brings joy to my heart, most of the ppl would rather pay 70-80k on a ioniq 5N than on a TT.
That's why I believe Audi just decided to sit tightly and wait for better EV tech and better market opportunities in order to launch future cars in the likes of tt and r8.
      p. s. personal opinion, the best R8 was also the first R8. V8, light-ish, 8000 rpm, gated manual, looked like something out of this planet and droved like a sports car made by Audi.

The way EVs are used and produced actually contribute to a worsening pollution and damaging the envrionment but, hey, if it doesn't happen next to our door, we, as a western society, are ok with it.
Also, the ones I have tried drive like shi.te, from an enthusiast pov.

Got the original Mk1 ( no wing/ smooth boot). 180HP Quattro, 5 Spd manual in Amulet Red in 2000. Great all season car (in winter equipped with appropriate tires). Great unique exterior shape & stance and classic interior as you mention. Replaced after 7 yrs with 07 base Boxster 5Spd & following its lease end got a new 09 base Boxster at years end at a good price that had some appealing engine characteristics (2.9L/no IMS), larger wheels, 6 Spd, and now at 130000 kms, is a keeper. If I had the space at the time, that Mk 1 TT may still have been here. But as someone else commented here, I may have still reached for the Boxster for the fun drives-and maintaining any 23 yr old car especially if one isn't using it regularly can be an adventure.

4:23 it was the TT that had the 5 cylinder engine first, and it was a manual transmission too, only later was the transmission changed to DCT, and at that time the A3 was also given the engine in the RS3, meaning the TT RS Mk2 is the only car you can get the 5 cylinder in manual transmission.

At 5 years old we had a problem with the 4 wheel drive and was given a large bill before the work was started so I pointed out the then sales of goods act so they agreed to do it under warranty. Right now my next door neighbour has it he also has my Jaguar which had its 12 birthday this January. I asked my wife is she would like the TT back or a new one and she said no she loves her Seat Leon.

Individual Mode with everything Dynamic apart from suspension which I’d put in comfort to allow a bit of squat.
Traction Fully Off. just push and hold down button for 3-5 secs. Don’t worry about losing traction. It’s got plenty of it.
Leave gearbox in Auto but in Sport.
Left foot hard down on the brake.
      Right foot to the floor.
Hold it for a second or two to enjoy the noise.

I've always preferred the shape of the coupé; the sweep of the roof structure was part of the theatre of the design. Sad to see these leave the new car market. That'll mean the existing ones will be the ones to treasure and cherish.

Had the same problem, although less damaging, on a Passat Estate 1.8T back then.
    Anyway, bye bye TT😢😢😢
    Cheers, Tom

My biggest regret after 3 years or ownership, was part exchanging my 2018 TTRS sans particulate filter and big on that fabulous exhaust sound. It was easy to give it plenty of welly but soon risked exceeding the speed limit. I like the TT so much I now have an entry level SLine which is still a nice car.
Pete - as you are a rag top man, why not review the BMW Z4 G29 M40i?

I've owned an Audi TT RS MK3 for almost six years in the best RS colour Nardo Grey. It just simply ticks all the boxes , for reliability out right pace and practicality. And above all listening to that sonorous 5Cyl 2.5litre engine engine every time. Nothing compares IMHO Awesome 👊🏽

Always loved the design and found them surprising practical, it’s easy to drive quickly and also to just enjoy at lower speeds.
Would have loved an electrified one, maybe in time it will turn up

Peter….I was at the launch of the original car with my friend Adam….the Audi looked a mix of the future with hints of 1930’s Bauhaus and was certainly a car that people talked about a great deal. Maybe Audi was in a very good patch as the A2 arrived around the same time. Now Audi is very safe and I can’t believe they still sell the Q5 which looks decades old. Your old pictures are special…so are your memories. I think you should buy a good one again but this car is too expensive although rare. You need to keep your good memories alive! 🙂🙂🙂🙂Richard

Loved my mk2 TTRS Pete.... owned it for 8 years & it never put a foot wrong (most reliable car I've had) & far more practicle than you'd ever inagine
I did consider a mk3 when finally changing but for the money I was spending decided that I wanted something with a bigger difference.... I started looking at Cayman's but the 2 seat issue kept me away, I then thought maybe an M2 but in the end got an M3.
It's a sad day yet again, 2 Audi icons gone & I too have said why not electrify it as the mk4 version.
I did hear that there is a new 2 seater etron coming which will be badged ettron as a nod to the TT but not sure if that is true.
Nice send of review though 👍🏻

Well said once again Pete. I've had 2 mk2 tts, 1 mk3 tts, and now mk3 ttrs roadster, yes in nardo grey with black badging and I absolutely love it. Yes it doesn't make the noise of the 17 plate one because as you said, all the filters etc. I've had and still getting.... It's a hairdressers car, but I don't care. 400hp Quattro what's not to like. Totally agree with you're comment on the iconic it's too much money. I'm going to keep mine and hopefully watch it increase in value, but in the mean time those B roads await. Again brilliant video

I owned a MKII TTS & loved it. I was keen to get a TTRS but when a I went to order it. It wasn’t possible. So I bought a F80 M4 Competition. I now own a B9.5 RS4. If there was a new TTRS Vorsprung in white in a dealer when I walked in. Maybe my heart would rule & I’d buy it. Like you I wish I’d owned one & the opportunity to do this will be gone soon. I dare say I should take my time to savour & love what will likely be the last RS4 to.

Previous owner of a Mk2 TT. Genuinely miss that thing, but sold it and I am now looking at a 718 Boxster S/GTS. Having driven both, I agree that the 718 is more fun to drive, but my god the TT line is EASILY the most practical sports car you can buy. I can't tell you how many times I moved in mine, fitting in a full size mattress and computer gadgets. Amazing car for more casual sports car owners and I'm so sad to see them go.

I had an 8S from 2016-2020 with a 1.8 petrol engine and I really liked the car. The smaller engine, which was only available until I think 2020 or so, was perfect for usage as a daily. Driving with this through the Swiss Alps or to the beach in Netherland - performance ok because of it's weight compared to bigger cars and the space in the back for all the luggage...perfect for two person. Because of its size the handling through the curvy mountain roads was perfect. I had it as a manual and also with the smaller engine it provided a lot of fun on those roads - the only downside was that the 2 liter engines had a little bit more sound.
The interior was and still is from my point of view the best ever. Design and functionality combined perfectly. How the AC is integrated and the digital screen only behind the wheel without any other second screen "misplaced" somewhere else. Only disappointment were the prices for each and every little extra.

Was not a fan of the Mark 1, but the later TT models grew on me. Sadly it is one of the cars that I considered a couple of times over the years but it lost out to something else both times. Neither car that I ended up buying was a direct competitor, but they worked for me at the time, and by the time I buy my next car the TT will be history.

I can recall when they were launched. They seemed like a beautiful concept car that had been brought to life. They stood out on the motorway. They were in a niche of their own. Audi seemed a bit braver then and launched cars like the A2 which was ahead of its time and not really appreciated at the time. I used to joke about grey cars - but have just ordered a new grey one from Audi locally lol. 😃

    Hi Ped
Sad to say goodbye to the TT, although the price for this final edition crazy. When this was introduced I think Audi was brave with the design although not welcomed by the majority. As an Audi man over many years never purchased one, as it did not meet my requirements at the time, but my dealer was generous in loaning me this model on numerous occasions and I did like them. Not wishing to bring politics into the channel, but I do find our headlong rush towards Net Zero is the main reason so many desirable cars are disappearing so soon. The irony is that governments now seem to be waivering and realising the real price to be paid now and going forward. Today we are sacrificing our steel making industry, Port Talbot😥😥😥

Audi taking pish on pricing what a surprise. Why is it going. Single platform, lack of demand for the volume they can produce etc. etc. and most likely the bean counters have had their say. Truly iconic car but unfortunately that doesn't matter any more.

I've had a '20 TTS from new and it has been a brilliant, plus being practical and economical too it is a great all rounder. The 30 Profile PZero's don't last long though! However the run out models were around £57K and that was simply too much. As I specced it without the fixed wing, I could be tempted to buy a used TTRS if I ever found one without it but I've only ever seen one in my life. A P300 F-Type keeps calling me, but is it any better than what I already have?

I really liked the TTRS convertible even considered one before buying my Z4 m40i.
Loved its performance in all weather but not its interior, in such a flash out there car why no colour options for interior leather BMW does, also no HUD BMW has.
Arguably these are small things but for me deal breakers.
The TTRS isn't a cheap car I'd like it to be as near to my ideal spec as possible for the money
