Another interesting game with some crossbow war! The lands present an opportunity for 5 city Tradition before NC, so we take it and show how you can make it work. Denmark is always an annoying neighbour, so we get greedy and take his capital and it's Temple of Artemis for ourselves! Sticking on a peaceful 5 cities would probably have been the faster victory, but why waste the rare opportunity to xbow down the Denmark Deity AI?
Excellent! I'm glad you found them useful! I get asked about them a LOT so I've been thinking of doing a whole video on them They can be a great guide to know where you are in relation to other players and win times, and knowing whether you need to focus growth!
@PCJLaw not sure if you still look at youtube comments, but I wanted to hear about your thoughts on chopping forest outside of cultural borders. Sure you get the hammers sooner, but you do take a 33% penalty on forests chopped outside of cultural borders. Is it worth it to wait until it is in your borders, or is getting the instant hammers sooner more important than maximizing the chop hammer?
I gotta admit, it was kinda funny seeing all the missionaries roll in during the war, especially following the early disappointment after spending so much effort at the start to settle near Sinai! Good to see that it all worked out in the end though.
@@manginobear Good question on Humankind! I've answered it a couple of times on stream, but here's my current opinion: 1. Any game I produce content on I must like. I don't believe in doing 2 week trends and from the evidence I've seen, they tend to harm your channel unless you're a big creator, which I am not 2. (1) means I want to study it and see if it's a game I enjoy before streaming it 3. I am trying to watch some content on it now, but I don't know if I like it yet! If I do, I'll play it. If I don't, I won't, but I don't know right now!
You can settle on an oasis but the oasis is then destroyed - and surrounding tiles no longer have fresh water - so it is a very bad thing to do. Never settle on oasis or salt.
PC J, why do you not choose to pick skills instead of instant upgrades? I watch filthyrobot's videos and if he can save the unit, he usually chooses to pick a skill and puts the unit into a safe spot
It's a great question! Each single early game turn is incredibly critical, so I believe in "keeping my unit in the action" as opposed to waiting out turns to heal. Remember that healing is much better on Standard than Quick game pace I felt that Filthy over-values promotions, primarily because contrary to his recommendations on Deity, upgrading units through the ages is an easy way to go broke. Instead, you'll upgrade a unit twice maximum and then let it obsolete. In that situation, the likelihood of entering combat before it goes obsolete and the promotion actually being useful is very low. Therefore, instead of waiting 5 Quick speed turns to heal, I almost always take the Instant Heal. It means that I can use the unit immediately during the most important period of the game Hope that helps?
@@PCJLaw yeap that does help! So I suppose in the long term, the unit will usually be obsolete anyways, so even if you won't be using the unit for a few turns, and u could rest the unit and use it within the same time period, in the long run, it really doesn't matter.
At 34:00 he trades with Poland and with a single click the game chooses 1 iron and another click 2 gold from Poland. How do I change my game into that setting?
Production is processed after food (and city growth). Prod focus will prioritise working tiles with hammers, so after the city grows the new citizen will plop on one of those tiles, and htne the production is processed with the now new citizen working that production tile along with what you had prior. Check a bit after 6 minutes in his video: "Civ 5 Deity Game 1: Fast Turn 167 Science Victory (Quick Speed) - Part 1 (Overexplained Early Game)"
Good question! It's an old habit I never let go really. You're right, I should probably take the free gold since gold now matters much more than gold later (because I will buy the embassy back) It's a habit from when someone told me once it makes them less likely to covet you but honestly, I doubt it makes a difference because you're correct lol
All run long you're taking lump sum gold when GPT is more on quick speed. Unless you're going to DoW, I'd be taking the GPT and doing better on gold in the long run.

This was a great stream, happy I watched it live!
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I certainly thought it was a bit different to normal - different tradition and a bit of cheeky war in the middle :P
@@PCJLaw Definitely. I love rome, so it was a nice surpise to hope on and see you were playing. Have you thought about trying out humankind?

Why Salt ?
@@infentiemk6755 it's the best luxury to work
@@infentiemk6755Salt is the other resource that commonly appears in deserts, and it provides food which is extremely important for desert cities

Wins a deity game as Rome while finishing with crossbowman... That's insane hahahah

There were quite a few issues with range during the war too, like enemy city attacks. Oh well, scuffed games happen!
