    #Mazda has also focused primarily on building small, light, fun-to-drive cars with a heavy focus on driving dynamics. When the #MazdaCX9 came out about 11 years ago, the company introduced its largest vehicle ever in response to Americans needing a bigger family vehicle. Thankfully, the #CX9 remained the Mazda of crossovers and despite its large exterior size, it drove like a much smaller SUV. In 2016, the second generation was released and Mazda improved a lot of aspects while making the new one even more fun to drive. Even today with so much new competition from VW, Subaru, Honda, and Toyota, the 2019 CX-9 Signature adds new tech features and retains its luxurious design to remain one of the best large family crossovers you can buy.

    Mazda's cars are starting to look so damn premium. Aside from the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Palisade, this CX-9 three years later is still an excellent SUV.

    I bought one. Brilliant vehicle for what it is ( a large 3 row SUV). The fit and finish is premium inside and out. It looks and feels like a 60k car. Driving feel/dynamics are the best in class by far. Subaru Ascent is still saddled with that CVT and does not give you the pleasure of 310 pounds of torque doing it's thing through a very good traditional auto 6 speed. Yes an overdrive gear or two would probably be better but this transmission is always in the right gear and sport mode kicks the response up a couple notches. It just works and you can see when he is accelerating at speed the engine just pulls It's not hunting for one of 10 available gears. It does not offer the most room interior wise and if that's your main concern look at something else. He clearly thinks this is the best in the segment and now with the addition of Car Play, vented seats, 360 camera etc it really is.

    Here are my explanations for why the CX-9 cannot have a pano roof:
    Because of the way the roof is designed now. It curves up from the front, and down toward the rear. Also, from the middle of the roof back, it gets progressively narrower as the roof slopes down in the rear. Therefore, if a pano was installed, its dimensions would be too small, and people would complain about that. I think we are just dealing with too many angles and aerodynamic factors for it to work. Not to mention CX-9 is already almost 4400 pounds without a pano. THEN you have to consider the cost in 3rd row headroom a pano would cause...too many negatives to offset the positives. A pano equipped CX-9 would be slower, heavier, less fun to drive, less economical, and less accessible to third row pax. It simply would not be as great a vehicle as it is now. All IMHO. A non opening pano would probably work, but I don’t really see any other way to do it, other than Webasto style sliding full length canvas. Cant think of any way to do it in glass, and being able to open it.
    I don’t mind not having a pano. I know their history of rattling, leaking, and other issues.
    I love my CX-9. I see many other manufacturers trying to copy its design cues, and its a four year old design. I’m already saving up for the next gen.

Just this weekend my girl friend and i rented the mazda cx5. We traveled from michigan to Virginia and North Carolina then back to michigan. My girlfriend is a bit on the richie side and was impressed with it as she is use to BMW, MERCEDES, JAGUAR. ETC. Also she herself is Japanese and black. She was pleased when i told her mazda was a Japanese company. While driving the cx5 she said she loved and asked if there were bigger models and behold the cx9. All in all. Wow, that interior is really solid in that burgundy, nice materials, .. just a shame that the infotainment is still so far behind some competitors. Also.. it's 2019.. why is a pano sunroof not an option.. if not standard equipment, especially for a 3 row SUV going for $45,000. Great review, I'm excited to see you get your hands on the CX-30!

      @davidcoons89 5 років тому +2

      Just saw someone else make a comment about the passer-by and I made the same joke about the sunshade and then just saw your comment but a minute later 😂.
      Also, on a more serious note, I def agree about the burgundy and overall material quality. I also totally had the same thought about the lack of pano sunroof. I saw someone else make the comment above that they had heard/read that Mazda declined to utilize one due to weight-saving measures. I'm sure it genuinely does have a fair amount to due with keeping the center of gravity lower, and the handling feel enhanced, as sunroofs, espesh panoramic ones do add a considerable amount of weight. And obviously that added weight does indeed detract from COG pretty significantly due to being so decentralized and high up on the vehicle. But come on..shoppers in this segment aren't typically seeking the absolute pinnacle of driving dynamics, as much as they are a well-balanced and fun-to-drive crossover with segment-competitive convenience/comfort features. Such as a pano sunroof. But I get why they engineered it the way they did and forego the implementation of one (and the cost effective nature of the decision as well).

      The infotainment isn’t nearly as bad as the current Toyota offering, but with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto this isn’t an issue. And the reason no Pano roof is offered is for structural integrity and body rigidity.

    I went to test drive the Telluride. The problem I have with the Telluride, is it is brand new. Because people are in love with it, Kia is holding firm on price. Upper end Telluride is $50K and a bit higher. When you get to the $50K and up point, it brings in a lot of other choices for just a bit more. I assume the Palisade will be a bit higher than the Telluride. I also wonder about resale value. I really liked the Telluride. Rode very nice, quiet and had decent power. It's just the items I pointed out that have me holding back. When/if Kia discounts these, then it'll be a different game for me. Just not sure If I'm going to wait till then. That's why I'm looking at this Mazda CX9. I've ridden in this a few times. Liked it also. If pricing is better, well then I have to consider this also.

    My daughter has a 2012 CX-9 with the 6 cyl engine and that's my baseline. We test drove two different CX-9s today at a dealer because my wife wants one now. First, a 2018 Signature Edition. It did not have the get up and go that the 2012 model has, despite higher torque numbers in the specs. So we tried a 2019 Grand Touring model with lower mileage to see if it was a matter of engine wear. This one seemed even less responsive than the 2018 model.
    If torque is what gets the car moving, then why does the 2012 CX-9 with 270 ft lbs outperform the 310 ft lbs newer models in both the standing start and passing on the highway? My daughter's CX9 seems to want to cruise above 80mph. I drove in this afternoon and found myself exceeding 80mph without realizing it numerous times on the highway. The newer cars are nice, but the drive train feels like it's got a rubber band softening the acceleration.

    Admittedly pleased with my 2019 CX-9 Signature, although it was a big change from my Grand Cherokee (which I adored). Definitely very fun to drive with plenty of power with the standard turbo engine. The interior really is in the luxury category. Biggest gripes is the very slow, glitchy, and non-intuitive entertainment system, and atrociously bad rear view and front view cameras. A panorama sunroof would have been nice. I never use the third row, I keep those seats folded down to get a larger trunk. With the third row seats up, the trunk is small.

Looking for something lighter and faster acceleration. Do you find your cx9 is quicker off the line? The mpg in my gc is about 19 city/24hwy so not that much difference with this cx9 do you think? Thanks for any input . Was looking for better mpg

    To address the transmission comment; keeping the 6 speed is not done as a cost cutting measure. With an engine such as the 2.5T, that torque is so immense, it is able to provide the instant response you feel while only needing 6 gears. Adding more would only cause gear hunting and take time away from acceleration for needless gear changes.

    I like your reviews , few key components which are missing are like seat and suspension stiffness and accelerator padle lengths and heights .I know this may sound ridiculous to most of us , This is a big issue with people who have lower or upper back or lumber problems or have different foot sizes and specifics . Eg Subaru's generally have very stiff and non adjustable seats and suspensions which are not comfortable for people with back problems whereas lexus , audis have softer seats and suspensions. I have seen cars like fords or infinit's where the accelerator padels are very high and not suitable for people with smaller foot sizes .

    Tell me how Mazda deals with prevention of carbon build-up on the intake valves with the GDI engine. You gave the towing capacity but is there a towing package and does it include a larger radiator/transmission cooler (ATF temperature gauge? Oil pressure gauge? Etc.)

    • @michaels7984
      @michaels7984 4 роки тому +1

      There is no tow package or additional equipment for towing. As far as carbon buildup, their head engineer explained it, comes down to using certain seals in the turbo, better quality materials and with how it's designed they are able to have higher temperatures where the carbon builds up to essentially burn it up. That is from memory, pretty sure there is a video where he explains it a little bit more.
