Hey Mark, just listened to the olive problem. I'm from Jaén, Spain, largest producer of olive oil in the world, and what I can say is that they need a really hot long and dry summer. There are some varieties that work just fine with wet summers, but I would say that one is one of the southern ones. Probably Picual, Manzanilla or Arbequina.
Thank you! I let the tree run on the very dry side in the pot, but we may not get hot enough here in this area during the warm months. I appreciate your advice. Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great week! All the best, -Mark
Hi Peter! Someone had mentioned that to me a few weeks ago, so I'm going to give that a try this year. I didn't know about the drought stressing though. Thanks for sharing that with me and of course, thanks for watching the video as well. Cheers! -Mark
The lemons and lemon cake recipe sound good 👍🏼 my banana trees banana stocks have gotten 3 ft long here in coasts texas south padre island texas your tropical garden is awesome
I certainly agree with you about the citrus trees for when they are in bloom here, the aroma is breath taking. I had a grapefruit tree for awhile and when it was in bloom, it was wonderful. Thanks for your video.
Hi Justin! Thank you! It's my pleasure to share it. Greenhouses.....a great thing to have in the winter. I see spring all winter long! Thanks for watching/commenting! Best, -Mark
I’d love to see a care video for your citrus trees! I was recently recommended your channel by UA-cam and am catching up on all your videos. I’m in the greater Boston MA area (6a).
That was the plan for earlier this spring, but that video slipped through the cracks on us... I will definitely post one on the citrus trees going forward... A detailed one on how we care for ours, repotting, etc... Thanks so much for watching! -Mark
Hi Hafthor! It's on my bucket list! My mom has visited there several times and loves it! I would love to film there when I do come over. Thank you for watching my video! -Mark
Hey Mark, as soon as you said "Lemon Cake" I got all distracted looking for the recipe - don't leave a Top Fan hanging! LOL. The Red Passion Flower is awesome - thanks for showing that. The leaf on that helped me ID a GA native vine coming up in my yard amongst some Cleome - fortunately my hoe (the garden tool, not a reference to anyone, HA) didn't chop them all down. Email me that recipe! :-)
Hello...Mark's Garden... Your Green house is huge... And I love to see those of Bananas Trees... It's healthy and gorgeous... I love those Limes and Lemon.. 🍋🍋 🍋 Thank you so much for sharing your great garden....Happy Weekend to you and yours..
Hi Brittani! Fuel usage for the winter season for that greenhouse runs approx. 4,500 gallons to heat to approx. to 50F degrees. If you are in a milder climate, it would require less and colder, of course more. Electricity, I would have no idea since it is combined with many other greenhouses. Hope that gives you a general idea. Best, -Mark
Hi Mark. really enjoy these citrus videos like I do everything that you post! lol. Wow those trees and the citrus fruit is something! They look really nice and the blossoms ..the scent, there's just nothing else like it! I have 2 citrus trees in a pot..an orange and lemon and I have a lime tree in the ground in my yard all doing very well. Lastly I just wanted to say how much I appreciate u replying to comments Mark..I know u must be very busy and the more subscribers u get the more comments and emails u will receive! lol So I know it will get harder to keep up with it all as time goes on. So yeh appreciate your channel..wish I could visit your area..it would be the sort of place I would want to live oh except the humidity....i don't like that part..i prefer hot and sunny. lol But it looks like u still get alot of nice weather too. All the best.
Hey YJ! Thank you! Citrus trees in bloom are something as you know from having them. Replying....it all depends what's going on in my life. Sometimes I have more time than others. Typically winter. I know by spring, there is no way I will be able to keep up with replying to everyone, so I probably will go through and select questions I figure others might be looking for an answer to as well. It's just going to be impossible to keep up with. The youtube analytic companies tell me I will have one hundred and some thousand subs by this time next year and like 1.5 million within 5 years. That will be literally 1,000's of comments on each video I know. Where is it you live again? Thanks for watching and commenting! Have a great week! All my best, -Mark
Hey Mark! I live in Australia so far away from your area! But have always dreamed of traveling around the US. I especially want to visit your national parks...Yosemite, Yellowstone, Great Smoky Mountains, Grand Canyon, Crater Lake and Mount Hood in Oregon..gosh the list is endless...the nature and landscapes in your country are so beautiful and diverse..it really fascinates me. And then once your videos started to pop up on my recommendations I saw the area you live in and now found a new place I want to visit! lol Wow that will be alot! And with that you will get the trolls and not so nice people..so far from what i have seen of the comments u seem to have alot of nice subscribers and a close knit community of like minded people so hope it stays that way! It would be nice to be a part of this community too...got people of all ages and backgrounds so thats awesome! Anyways again appreciate your channel and good luck with it all!
Australia! Yes, it is far. The US is very diverse with so much to see. The coast of Washington State, Oregon and Northern CA is incredible too as well as you need to add the Redwoods in CA to the list too. The channel...As it grows, hopefully it stays that way for the most part. My age demographics are pretty surprising. I do draw every age group from 25 to 65+ almost evenly. I even have a small percentage of 18 to 24 year olds. Pretty wild, isn't it! 55 countries and the entire US as well. Who would ever thought! Australia and Canada bounce back and forth for 2nd place after the US for viewship numbers. Well, do lots of research before your trip to the US! You're young and have lots of time to get here. Have a great week! -Mark
The Redwoods of course..how could I forget them! lol. I'm a tree lover too! Is it true they are one of the oldest trees on our planet? I think I read some are thousands of years old! It sure is wild.. but your young too so enjoy it all.Its pretty amazing just how much your videos are having an impact on people all over the globe and u have a nice calming demeanor which would appeal to alot of people. Yes I sure will! Hopefully over the next few years things will have settled down a bit and can make plans from there. All the best Mark!
The Redwoods are something! I'll send you a few pictures from when I was there 3 years ago. I have your email address I know. How old are you? The videos....Believe me, I'm the most surprised of what's happening! You should plan at least 6 weeks for the US and that's pushing it to be honest. So much to see. Take care, -Mark
Hi Abhishek! I think that's great I have someone from India subscribing to my channel. Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy my videos and thanks for watching! Mark
Mark would you know how old a lemon tree would be before it bears fruit? I have two growing like crazy that are 1 1/2 yrs old. Had to watch this one twice and wow those citrus trees are just beautiful!
Hi CP! 3 to 5 years with most. Most of the ones in the video are in their 20's now and the growth is contained by the fact they are in 26" pots. They bare heavily every year. Thanks for watching! -Mark
Hi Nate! Repot?.....Actually, no, not at all. They are in the original large pots and some have been in them for approx. 25 years. We use a low rate soluble fertilizer only from March through October and than cut all feed out for the winter. Nate, thanks for watching and commenting too! -Mark
That particular greenhouse is 9,000sq. ft. Side walls are lexon poly and the roofs are 6 mil plastic. I may be tearing it down in a upcoming major renovation. It doesn't have roof vents and anything built today should. I have about 2 acres total in standing greenhouses with another acre in glass sitting here to be build.
@@marksgardenlife5971 Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. Im currently looking at options for mine, im probably gonna go with a polycarbonate model all throughout. It has a automated roof vent, fans and two double sliding doors. Im in Texas by the way. Love your channel, I too grow citrus
Roof vents are critical. I have a glass Westbrook house to be built where the entire roof is like two large doors and fully open so there is no need for fans at all. Each bay is I believe 22 feet wide and each bay has the roof where the entire roof fully opens. Get the largest vents you can afford.
Hi Julian! We use a constant low rate of feed on the citrus except in the winter months. Actually, in the winter, the citrus may get watered every ten days or so. It just does not require much watering and prefers it on the dry side of the spectrum. In the summer months, we move the citrus trees outside and they probably average being watered once every 5 or 6 days. Julian, thanks for watching and I hope you find it interesting enough to keep watching my channel. -Mark
Hi Nate! I don't use any fertilizer. I just try and make the soil the best I can so it feeds the plants. Thank you for the question. Thanks for watching! -Mark
Have you tried growing the hardy banana (Musa Basjoo)? I don't live too far from you (Virginia).... this variety of banana does fantastic here and totally hardy. In a hard winter the stalk totally dies back but quickly returns in spring... when we have a mild winter the main stalk will survive and give the plant a huge head start in spring and it will get to enormous sizes. IF you can keep the main stalk going for three seasons you'll get bloom and bananas, but sadly this variety is inedible but makes a great accent plant for the garden. One more question... are you a business open to the public? Your place is so large and I would definitely make a trip to your nursery/gardens if you are open to the public!
There is variety of olive that does not bear fruits (or fruits that drop before maturation). This is supposed to be purely ornamental and hypoallergenic (less to no pollen).
Hmmm. Ok... I will maybe try to stick it in one of our cooler greenhouses this upcoming winter and see what happens... Maybe keep it in with the perennials... Thank you!!!
@Mark's Garden Life bob duncan has them fruiting in the ground in Canada, I believe olives can actually handle some cold temperatures it’s more about not letting there roots get wet

The smell of the lime flower is delightful.
OMG!!! Gardening goals ..😍
Hi Frederick!
lol yep! Thanks for watching!
-Mark
to flower the olive tree it will need to be kept near freezing during the winter. drought stressing it in the summer helps too
Hi Peter!
Someone had mentioned that to me a few weeks ago, so I'm going to give that a try this year. I didn't know about the drought stressing though.
Thanks for sharing that with me and of course, thanks for watching the video as well.

Try adding some Citrus bloom to your tea.
It is very common in Middle East.
