Curtis Mayfield was the heart and soul of the Impressions. He wrote and arranged mostly all their material. Curtis also wrote songs for Major Lance, Gene Chandler, Gladys Knight, Aretha Franklin and many more. During their popularity, several groups tried to copy the Impression's singing style. Imitation is the most sincerest form of flattery. The Impressions are an all-time great group.
The impressions all of them Great all time period blk soul blkluv n blkpwr
The brilliant Curtis Mayfield is the center, but credit Fred and Sam for keeping the group going. A great Impressions song a little under the radar was The Girl I Find from the Young Mods Forgotten Story album. The 1970 Curtis album, Mayfield's first as a solo, is a masterpiece.
I appreciate several of the groups back then, but Curtis, Sam and Fred weren't called the Fabulous Impressions for nothing. They were truly my guys back then, and still are number one in my heart! I had the pleasure seeing them live on two different occasions. Thank you, this was great stuff.
My mom and step-dad told me that when they saw the Impressions live, they were one of the groups they saw that sounded better live than they did in studio.
Another great video! Keep bringing more videos. I graduated elementary school with Mr. Mayfield's daughter Sharon.🔥🔥
People get ready Amen
you are getting better and better great video WBPTV
Oran from Oakland: my favorite song by Curtis Mayfield was Fred's dead. My favorite song by the impressions is Moving on up and the woman's got soul. Living in Oakland and running with the black panthers i just loved to hear Were a winner. God bless Sam Gooding, Curtis Mayfield, and all the impressions. You will never be forgotten.
Phenomenal group of all time. One of my late fathers favorite songs was “People Get Ready” it still brings tears to my eyes 12 yrs later because it was a civil rights movement song. It ment a lot to him to hear music that represented that time. Especially that song. Not only did The Impressions make songs for justice and equality also Curtis Mayfield played a big part in recognizing injustice for our people and communities. Way to put together a nice bio on this great group👍

The Impressions started the 'protest songs era with 'We're a winner'' after that everybody started writing protest songs. A well known fact that Berry Gordy didn't like and was mad at the Impressions after ''Keep on Pushing was released. The Impressions changed the musical landscape. Berry refused to let Marvin Gaye release ''Whats going on' album. I ain't and you ain't gonna take any talk about somebody else started the Protest Songs. It was the Impressions and it will always be. My favorite Group. PEACE IN THE VALLEY🌹🌺🌻🌼

How is this considered an "untold truth"? Most, if not all, Curtis/Impressions fans are aware of all of this.
So many good songs by this group and Curtis Mayfield on his own.
I liked (['m so proud), (it's alright), ( you must believe me), (train a coming), and Curtis Mayfield's (gangsta whitewalls).
It's hard to remember them all and I probably don't have the song titles correct.
Curtis DID NOT do "gangsta white walls" .
@@ronniemoon57 you are right. It was Diamond in the back.
Muddy Waters is one you can do
Gypsy woman

Did he just call them the "Oppressions"?
Julibees?? It's JUBILEES,
I wish Jerry had stayed. Needless to say Jerry is my favorite singer.
