If jeep can do it, so can ford. I really hope to see improvement for the expedition, because all cars should be safe.
jeep *barely* did. it folded like a lincoln LS/honda odyssey
Cheap chinesium at its finest
@@gabesmath105jeep had a good compared to the ford,,, jeep structure got like a acceptable while the ford got poor, the injuries were way worse than the jeeps, there is no barely here
But also jeep around 5 years newer
This wasn’t even a real comparison, rigged, fake. The ford and the Jeep didn’t hit in the same place, the ford was a thinner hit by about 1.5 to 2 feet. That’s going to make a big difference between what you see from the outside.
There goes my plan for purchasing a 2023 Expedition. Thank you for providing this test!
Just buy a minivan instead, they have the same cargo space for 30 grand less
@@gamingwitharlen2267 Unless he's trying to tow something or live in a country side yeah minivan can be a better alternative
Just buy a Corvette ZR1
Just buy a excursión v10
@@gamingwitharlen2267 Nah, no minivansl for me.
NEW IIHS VIDEO GUYS
Hell yeah.
Right on
WE UP
On the Expedition page, the IIHS shows a curious still image where it looks like the test dummy’s leg was trapped inside of the crushed car. I notice they didn’t take much time to show up close just how poorly the vehicle performed and apparently amputated their dummy’s leg!
You're absolutely right. If you look again, the yellow bit is the dummy's shoe. The entire foot and ankle is completely mashed into the wheel well and dashboard. If you think how much tougher the dummy's body is in relation to a human body, I'd be surprised if a real victim of that crash ever walked normally again.
Oh, my. And they gave the Marginal rating.... Now I know that Marginal means "you lose your legs".
can’t wait for potential tests on the sequoia and the armada
Armada will fail. Its a 15 year old piece of crap
Now that's unusual for 2024 cars
Absolutely no excuse for this. Small overlap was introduced in 2013
Y’all should test the Suburban, Expedition Max, Wagoneer L as well as the Sequoia and Armada next to see how those SUVs fare in these crash tests.
This sucks, I really was considering the Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, but after this, I can’t do it in good conscience of safety.
If the cabin is built so poorly, what else is?
This is embarrassing.
In the Ford Expedition, the rocker panel detached from the A-pillar. Did this result in extensive intrusion into the occupant compartment?
Bigger doesn't equal safer.
In some ways it does .

I really want to see cybertruck crash test
Do you guys plan on testing the 2025 civic when it becomes available?
Probably not, there aren't any new design changes.
If there's a new change, almost certainly given the popularity, if it's the same, no. Otherwise as a small car the Civic just isn't going to be the safest choice, regardless of engineering.
Still waiting on them to release the small overlap crash footage for the 2022-2024 civic.
When will you test the Ford Bronco in the updated moderate overlap?
yo can you do a crash test of the chevy g20 van i wanna see if is safe for my family
While the Jeep Wagoneer might be a Top Safety Pick, just be wary on its reliability. Many owners have reported many issues with this model.
The 4xe (plug in hybrid) version has massive drivetrain software issues. Learn about this before buying or leasing one
@@toddlehman1 They don't make a 4Xe Wagoneer.
I think your referring to the Grand Cherokee, but none the less, any Jeep or any vehicle from Stellantis (Jeep’s Parent Company), I would be very Cautious about buying.
@@TBird100636 Oh shoot whoops. I was thinking about the grand Cherokee 4xe.
So Jeep did far better than any of the competition ..And this surprises no one. Its the most awarded SUV's on the planet and there is a reason for that
Is it possible that in the event of a crash you can hold onto the steering wheel to keep yourself from flying forward?
It wouldn't really help
@@ihavenoideas5844 ok thanks. My sister bully wanted to know that and had me comment it ha ha.
The problem with the front offset crash test is that an oncoming vehicle would also travel at 35 mph so the test should really be done at 70 to be accurate.
Can you do a the Chevy trax / Buick Envista. They are becoming very common on the roads.
We're working on both models now.
@@iihs-hldiwill there be a headlight test when those release? Many GM products don’t seem to have headlight tests.
Also, is there a way you could start testing interior lighting? Buttons not being lit could be a safety hazard.
Can you please crash test dodge hornet @@iihs-hldi
These giant SUVs are putting EVERY road user, including their owners, at greater risk - it’s wrong to see them becoming popular choice for Americans.
👍
Americans liking these kinds of vehicles just keeps pouring more fuel onto the “Americans are dumb” fire.
Large SUVs like this are a bit like nuclear weapons. Once one person gets one everybody else rushes out to buy them to feel safe; now you have roads where 50% of traffic are SUVs like this or pickup trucks and other large vehicles. The worst part is these vehicles are actually quite unsafe in a vacuum because of their high mass and weaker structures, they're only "safe" if you crash into somebody else in a smaller car because the laws of physics will mean that you'll win by default just because your car is so heavy. People should stop buying these ridiculous SUVs and start buying large sedans and crossovers. German sedans like the Mercedes S-Class are 100x safer for the driver and also aren't a hazard to everyone else on the roads like pedestrians and drivers of small cars.
It's not morally wrong to own a big SUV. I love my X7, Q7 and Suburban.
@@Swiss4.2 you got it so right! I think the lack of regulatory control (lobbying) is also to be blamed. These SUVs would fail totally in the EU pedestrian safety regulations for passenger vehicles, but neither IIHS nor NHTSA have this authority to regulate manufacturers.
I really enjoy this type of content, a bit more expaliend

The 2013 Honda Civic even earned a good rating. Which was 10 years ago for a very small vehicle
Tesla cybertruck test 👍
No need to waste money on it.
Finally some content
It's a shame, especially considering price tag, how poorly these massive vehicles perform in safety tests.
The Expedition has that much intrusion & the head gets twisted around like that and it gets a Marginal instead of Poor as shown in the end chart?
Unusual in a way that the Expedition doesn't have the same structure as the truck sibling F150.
Surprised but also not surprised to see this perform poor. It’s based on the F-150. Ford only made improvements to the F-150 over the years and not the Expedition because IIHS didn’t test full sized SUVs. Automakers cutting corners on crash safety like they did before the passenger side overlap test started (only improving the driver side). I’m sure this will be addressed with the 2025 model.
1:25 The buckling around the Wagoneer's B and C-pillar area and roof is not reassuring.
i love you IIHS
So we focus on the expedition when the tahoe has arguably worse scores...
And where is the armada and sequoia? The sequoia is the newest truck, it shouldve been tested and compared as well.
The armada and expedition are being remodeled and released soon so hopefully they get those tested and we see how they do.
Lastly, people do get these vehivkes because they do save lives. Newer cars in general are very safe. Though they didnt do well in these tests, an article released no more than 5 yrs ago rated both the yukon(tahoe) and expedition top 20 in vehicles with lowest fatalities
This is why you don’t get a Ford plain and simple
Because of my birthdate (2012), I couldn’t ask you to do 2009 Mazda biante minivan crash test
theres a new generation of expedition this year.. with the new f150 frame.. so well see
$80K for mediocrity. Americans: TAKE MY MONEY.
we need cybertruck
The local Chevy dealer by me has like 20 Expeditions stacked in the used car lot
Weird thing is the expedition is based of the F150 and that did better
Ford used to make the side they crashed stronger, now they test both sides Ford decided both sides should be weak, lol.
You mean the Expedition that came out almost 7 years ago didn’t do well on a newer test? *shock face* I’m sure the redesign will address it.
This test has been out for at least 10 yrs so it’s not new. There’s really no excuse for it.
Dangerous copium.
This test was introduced in 2012…. For a design from 2018 this is pretty bad. Cars older than this do just fine lol.
Imagine buying a 2024 car and getting 2004 safety.
Keep coping ford fanboi.
The big 3 are lucky that they still have so many dumbasses that are willing to buy their junk.
You just got to keep the Jeep from burning down .
Please test the new c class
they already did and result is up online, just no footage
So maybe try that test again hitting in the same location. The fords hit was thinner than the Jeep and this whole thing looks biased. Jeep is getting desperate for sales.
It's 25% overlap for all vehicles and has been since this test was introduced a decade ago.
90% Aluminum expedition
How can these cars be so huge yet perform so poorly in 2024? These cars are already dangerous to other drivers and pedestrians and cyclists, yet can't even keep its occupants safe... Figure it out!!!
Your rating strategies are outdated, fix them
looks like another recall for ford 💀
Basically a bunch of oversized and overpriced sub-standard junk cars. Plus the way their rear quarters buckled on a frontal collision makes me worried for the passenger that would be sitting in the 3rd row, especially if the crash happens at a higher speed.
They have their use cases. Don't be so sour.
