its not just that, its bc these workouts arent very hard. They get the blood pumping maybe, and you may "feel it" in some spots, but like Mike said, the whole workout is a glorified warmup. It took me a solid year , year and a half to FINALLY get my wife into lifting consistenly bc she only wanted to to kickboxing and cardio bc weights were too hard and scary for her or she "didnt wanna be bulky" and finally i got her to agree to 3 times a week 30-45 minutes one major compound move and 2-3 isolation ones and now shes like wow i feel so much stronger and its like YEA IMAGINE WHERE YOUD BE NOW IF YOU JUST LISTEND A YEAR AGO lol
There was a couple of these arm workouts I was told to try out when my muscles atrophied pretty bad. I also have hyperextension of the joints, which make my shoulders and elbows slide in and out of place so i had to be careful with any actual lifting. It was hard to even lift my arms up for more than a few minutes at a time. It helps if you are an absolute beginner with no muscle mass at all.
I mean, I guess they are ok for like people in an retirement facility that just need movement...or for people to do in an office as a break from sitting down..just because they are movements
Yeah I mean if you are a stroke victim or have a muscle wasting disease or some disorder that cuts strength to unnaturally low levels, like nerve damage. If you don't have a medical condition this isn't anything. I have carpal and cubital tunnel and have done the physical therapy to treat it, you use 5 pound dumbbells and work your way up and you do exercises designed to make you fight gravity. Now I can use 20 lb dumbbells.
Thank youuuu!! I think that one thing that is forgotten in this video is that it depends where someone starts it's health/fitness Journey!! As someone who has a chronic disease that impact my whole body and energy, I can't do much bc my muscles are too atrophied😢 (bc of ongoing illness for years) SO just movement with my own weight is already a big challenge (and I'm not overweight, BMI of 22) and doing movements that are not against gravity is still exercise for me :/ Anyway I just wish to have a better health and not "muscle growth" so I guess it's okay to do exercise this way😅 not aiming to be a bodybuilder (not that I could with my debilitating health issue)

The squat on the balance board ball thing was actually one of the major things my physical therapists worked with me on, but that exercise was for stability and getting my muscles to learn to balance themselves, not for volume. You can also graduate to a one legged squat with the arch of your foot in the middle of the board once the normal one gets easy edit: misspelling
@@ozymandiaspbs yeah we'd always do it next to a bar (actually it was like a three sided outline of a cube thing that had the right height bar for grip all the way around) so you could hold it for stability as needed and safely get on and off - as you get more stable you can transition to hovering your hand over it just in case
same! I had the best physio ever! From a knee injury that was supposed to take a year to maybe heal completely he had me doing one legged squats after 1,5 months! Of course other work as well, it was a well measured gradual increase in stability work. Sadly he got fired, he was only there to care for his patients but didn't do his paperwork nor insisted on bills being paid. Such a good guy.

As a '79 baby I can confirm that especially in my age group & up, girls (yes child girls) were encouraged to hold their stomachs in at ALL times to look slimmer. I did it for so many decades that it wasn't even a thing I needed to concern my conscious brain with, it happened automatically like breathing. I recently saw on social media that doing that can cause incontinence so...I have regrets. EDIT: It's called Hourglass Syndrome
I was born in 2001 and my mom was telling me the same thing. Right now I just can't stop sucking in my tummy, I know it can be dangerous for the body and even cause breathing problems but I prefer this over looking even slightly bloated or something

I love these videos and I've done workouts like this so I know they don't build muscle, but I do have to point out that if you just hold your arms out for long enough, they will feel like they're going to fall off. You haven't gained anything but pain, but the pain is real. So to summarize: workout is bad, but it will still hurt.
My parents used to make us hold our arms straight out for 20-30 minutes as a punishment. I was told to believe that this strengthens slow-twitch muscles. It was pure misery.
You are fucking hilarious. I watched the entire Joe Rogan comedy special on Netflix and didn't crack a smile or a fake smirk. In 16 minutes, you had me rolling! Your sarcasm is on point!
My grandmother use to watch work out videos like this, of course the trainers were a little older but content was very similar. I remember the more advanced episodes a chair would be brought in, beginners could just sit while doing calf raises while advanced viewers could sit then stand. My mind was 🤯 here's to you Kim 🍻
I thought that doing a squat on a non-stable surface engages extra muscles, that you would not use otherwise, in order to stabilize yourself, and this builds extra strength and stability. I believe they are called 'stabilizing muscles'
This reaction video was amazing. The workouts were hilarious straight high level comedy, and the commentary was hilarious as well!! this happened with someone i know… where they don’t know what’s it’s like to really push yourself. when it starts to get mildly uncomfortable they quit
Honestly I miss the time I thought those workouts were effective. It was such an easy life just picking something I liked, feeling graceful, not grinding out all of my life force knowing I can still do 2 more reps😭
Dont grind then? I mean, train less, have 2RIR, just make sure you are exersising. It's viable way of training, there is nothing wrong if you just sustaining your physique level and not grinding every time.
This feels like exercises you'd be doing for rehabilitating after a tragic accident and just need to build some flexibility back up. Technically building the muscle again but not really what most people would need to be doing.
As a woman who has trained hard consistently for the last 25 years. I rarely follow ANY womens training programs! @@leighmeyers9870 to be fair, many people's vision of feminine is thin bordering on frail with little (if any) muscle definition, so many women are absolutely terrified of being "bulky / masculine / manly". There's little understanding of how unlikely that is or just how hard they would have to work to put on even 10 pounds of muscle. As a result there's a ready market for this type of fitness product where all that is required is to flail their arms (and maybe their legs) and call it a wrap.
I am learning a physiotherapy and I am a ciach for rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatics so I do believe that I have gained some expertise in training. First and foremost, yes those workouts are far from being the most effective and most of the shown exercises weren't targeting the muscles their meant to target according to what thse people. But I have to say that those exercises definitely did at least activate some muscles not the ones they said but the ones that worked against cravity. The second thing I want to add is that there are actually two types of hyperthrophy. Most people know only one though. It is the type where your muscle fiber size up, usually by getting wider but through special training you can also make them longer instead of wider. That is what you also call gaining muscle. Slow excentric and concentric exercises with good form against gravity with body weight or external weight/resistance will get you the best results here. But then there is the second type of hypertrophy which is unfortunately not known by many people allthough it is also very important, especially when you get older, when you have certain conditions such as parkinson or simply because you are an athlete in a gymnastics or dance sport. Contrary to the first type the second type does not widen or lenghten the muscle fibers but instead makes you use more of your fibers in the same muscle which also makes you stronger but without the visible muscle gain. You get this through stability training such as isometric exercises a combination of isometric, excentric and concentric exercises as well as excentric and concentric training on an unstable surface. (You can do the first two on a stable and on an unstable surface.) As said, this will not help you gain muscle weight but it will still strenghten the targetted muscles and also help them to adjust faster. This is especially important for people who are in risk of falling. So in short the isometric squat on the balance pad is actually a great exercise - just not for gaining musclesize. For ideal muscle training you need to do both. You need to get stronger through growing you muscle fibers stronger and through activating more muscle fibers at the same time. Last but not least doing exercises really fast is not doing nothing. Fast exercises are pretty useless if you do them for hypertrophys but you can use the to change you muscle fibers from slow twitch to fast twitch. Tjough it is easier to switch from fast to slow. The regular person does not need this but it can definitely make sense for some athletes. As an example, short track runners need to have as many fast twitch fibers as possible. The fast exercise in the video was still pretty useless bit it doesn't mean that doing exercises fast is always bad. This comment is not meant as a critique. I just wanted to share some more insight for the people who are interested into learning a bit more. These days there are many people outside who thing they are experts in the gym but actually know nothing about what they are doing and people who actually know that they know nothing about exercising believe that what those self made coaches know the best, follow their workouts and get frustrated or injured because they don't get what they where promised. I hope this will change someday. This bodybuilder here does certainly know a lot more than most of the other fit-fluencer out there. Keep it up 👌🏻 You are getting people on the right track. Thank you to those who read my comment. I know it is long but this much is important to understand the basics. I could dive much deeper into the topic but then this will turn into a novel. Have a wonderful day everyone ☀️
I love when I see these types of folks in the gym! They ask me how to get bigger delts like yours. I tell them to actually lift heavy enough waits for 3 set for 15 to 20 reps with low RIR and they grab the 2 lbs arrobic weights.🤦♂ P.S. I miss Charlie. Where's is Charlie Dammit?!
yea or tell them its ok to cheat on the last 2-3 just a little to help push the weights heavier and they are like nah nah i gotta do it with 10 lbs lighter than that so i can have complete tempo and control the whole time. Cool, go ahead and do that and then you will one day realize youre wasiting your time bc reps 1-11 were so easy you barely noticed them and you may have gotten 2-3 actual challenging reps out of that whole set.
@@jlogan2228 I don't think someone who trains to technical failure is wasting their time. They just have different priorities. Training to failure (i.e. mechanical failure) may increase recovery times and injury risk. Training to near failure (i.e. technical failure) is still a good stimulus for adaptation and may allow more volume to be moved over a whole workout plus better form for more reps will likely recruit more motor units than fewer heavier reps with degrading form. Imo newer lifters should be 100% focused on form and nailing that down so they avoid injury later on and that means doing lots of strict reps.
Man, dont want to say you wrong, but of lateral raises you dont really need big weights. I'm trained man and currently i'm using just 3kg for that exersice. So maybe it's ok weight for them?
@@jlogan2228 , i also disagree with you. If persons form on point and he is training to the failure, what's the reason to cheat even? Help push the weights heavier? For what? What doest it even mean? To being able to use heavier weights? If tou want, just grab one and have the good form with less reps to the failure again. There is no difference for me. Or you mean load muscle after failure? I personally suggest drop-set or myoreps then. If person perform exercise with good form to the technical failure there is definitely no wastage of time.
@@Flahtort Maybe I should of been more specific. Talking about correct weight for an specific individual. I use 15lbs for Ultra Full ROM Lateral Raises. 200lb guy using 3 lb weights with perfect form for 10 reps and not even going RIR of 5, but then the next guy picks the 40 lb weights and can't do 1 correctly is even worse in my opinion. Where is Charlie RP?
I'm so glad when my friend and I started lifting we went all in on the weights, heavier and heavier as we went. We did the classic "man" workout so we could look more feminine and it works. Ladies don't need special workouts, stick to the basic stuff. I don't think our gym even owns anything less than 5s.🤣

@@huitrecouture Maybe if you POLITELY suggested the possibility of an update critique video, he'd do one.
My ex used to watch and workout to videos like this. Whenever i pointed out that they were bad and tried to help her with actual basic proven exercises she used to get mad about me pretending to know better than these experts...
its not just that, its bc these workouts arent very hard.
To be fair agreeing with you would mean she'd have to admit she's getting tricked into dancing around by some rich idiot.
Oh jeez. Now you can send her these critique videos with an expert and everything! - Dr. Mike
I know why she's your ex
Happy wife happy life
There was a couple of these arm workouts I was told to try out when my muscles atrophied pretty bad.

You can also graduate to a one legged squat with the arch of your foot in the middle of the board once the normal one gets easy
edit: misspelling
Be careful with those balance boards. That is how Brooke Shields broke her leg.

I recently saw on social media that doing that can cause incontinence so...I have regrets.

I second that motion! Kim’s workout definitely looks like a typical Tracy Anderson workout 😂 As women, we get sold so many crappy exercise programs that promise to turn us all into supermodels.
