  • The Piscifun Platte fly fishing reel is a machined anodized aluminum saltwater fly reel with a lifetime guarantee for only $139. I own a variety of saltwater fly reels and this one is one of my favorites. It not only looks great, is lightweight, and is fully sealed, it is the first reel of this quality I have used at this price point. Previously, I was paying well over $200 for reels of similar quality. Now, with the Platte reel, anglers who are just starting out in saltwater fly fishing can afford a quality reel without spending a fortune.
The reel is fully sealed and has a powerful drag that will withstand the fast runs of saltwater fish. The quality aluminum construction means there is nothing to corrode. The Platte reel can be converted to right or left handed retrieve. I thoroughly enjoy it and I think you will too.

Please introduce a proper sized reel for double hand rods. You have the technology! Lets say this model in size something like: 120mm diameter, ability to hold 200 meters of 30lb backing line + 30lb runing line + decent scandinavian shootinghead in weight range from 34 grams to 40 grams. the weight of the reel should be around 290-310grams to balance a 14ft 9/10 weight double hand rod. That would be awesome!

I have been use my behemoth 8 wt for saltwater fly fishing. I am looking for a Dedicated reel for salt since I use it for both fresh and salt just gets tedious having to clean it. Definitely going to give this reel look

I have a Behemoth I use only in salt. I clean it the same way I clean all my saltwater fly reels, I spray it with a hose. I would not use any fly reel in saltwater without doing that every trip.

I have a TFO prism reel that cost me $109 from Bass Pro Shop it is 9 to 11 way with 265 yards of backing line. Just been having a hard time with my flies I tie myself and getting the right rod. Bought an ugly stick fly rod yeah maybe I should have spent more than $70 for it good rod but Heavy after a while like 5 minutes.

I have heard the Ugly sticks are very heavy for what they are. I usually go inexpensive on gear, but the rod does end up costing a bit more. The redington Vice is a great rod for around 200 bucks, which I know is high, but casts like a 1200 rod. makes a big difference in fly fishing for obvious reasons.

Captain - would be interested in your experience with the drag startup inertia. Does it start up easily as well as providing the good stopping power you mentioned? Any sticking or jerky feel when a good fish starts pulling? Finally, have you disassembled the drag for maintenance or just rinsed it off after fishing? Thanks for all the good videos!

Drag seems to have no extra startup resistance that i notice. I have not tried to disassemble any of it. I just rinse it off.
