    I have watched dozens of videos on learning fly casting in the past few weeks. As a retired University professor who knows quite a bit about effective vs inneffective teaching, I think that your videos are by far the best.

    Thank you for taking the time to put your videos together.
    At 71 I decided to give fly fishing a shot. I’ve never really been a fisherman of any type but the artistry of fly fishing drew me in. Your videos seem to address many of the problem I’ve already encountered. Hopefully now I’ll get a few of these corrected.
    Today was my first day taking what I had been practicing to the water and it was eye opening. For someone who has always considered themselves coordinated, it was humbling. lol
    Thanks again for sharing your knowledge.

    Excellent video with great demonstrations and examples. Also, first time I heard of practicing having only the fly hit the water. Great idea, will use this. Thanks

    Extremely helpful. I have taken a lesson from FFI instructor and am practicing for salt water flats trip coming up. I'm not inexperienced. The 5 tips gave me something to focus on and have more productive practice sessions. I am retired from the fire service and did a lot of instructing. I have to agree with the professor, you are a great instructor. Thank you for this service. Fair winds to you.

    I missed seeing this video or don’t remember it. It’s excellent. I did notice that your side arm cast had a downward tilting plane to direct the fly first to the water. I had adapted it to the side arm video you did recently and found it useful on my last bonefishing trip. Keep up the great videos.

    Even making those ugly casts Captain Myers presents the fly perfectly. I give a standing ovation.

    Excellent video. Being a still water fly fisherman I fish with a strike indicator. Would be good to show a video with one of them. Thanks

    Could you do a video on how to present and work fly poppers? I haven’t been able to consistently get good pops on them. Love the videos, extremely helpful!

    thank you capt, awesome info. your thoughts on practicing on water vs grass?

    • @CaptChrisMyers
      @CaptChrisMyers  11 місяців тому +2

      Understanding the difference between the initial pickup on grass vs water is important and should be explored. Once the line is in the air, however, the false casting is the same no matter where you started or will end so practicing over grass is fine for learning and perfecting your cast.

    I just started fly fishing, thanks to a friend talking me into it. Lol Do you have any videos that you are facing toward the camera so as to see the travel of the pole with different casting methods? Just subscribed so I will check the videos. Thank you for your time and information.

    • @CaptChrisMyers
      @CaptChrisMyers  11 місяців тому +2

      i do not have a specific video addressing your request. The method of travel is always the same. the tip must travel in a straight line. It does not matter whether it is pointed sidearm, straight above, or anywhere in between. the rod is doing the same motion.
      I have found that, on camera, that angle is not very helpful. I am guessing you are wondering whether my rod is straight up or tilted out. Mine is tilted so that the hook is well away from my head and it gives me a much longer range of motion. @CaptChrisMyers went to the river to test out my newbie skills. Lol Caught a small bass and a bluegill. It was definitely a different experience from conventional fishing. Think I'm "hooked". Lol
