OhH!!! Recently I opened a bin of seeds for the chickens and found a whole family of baby mice inside, all trying to get out. I had to rescue them ( and then from the cats!!! )

Diane.... who doesn’t love a Christmas mouse?!! So adorable❤️. Another idea for a Christmas gift or card. I know what I’ll be doing shortly. :). I noticed (and I’ve seen them in your later tutorials) the white dishes you use for your paints. What a clever idea! You can get a light wash, add or mix colors in the container...I’ve got to borrow this idea from you. Not sure I can find ceramic dishes, but I’m sure I can find them in plastic. ( I’ll just scruff them up a bit so the paint won’t bead up). Thanks, as always, for a wonderful tutorial. I so love listening to you. Nell
Thanks very much Nell! So glad you enjoyed my Christmas mouse! And yes, the little ceramic dishes are a very effective way of keeping paint on hand and easily accessible and mixable. I was lucky to get hold of those little dishes and I’m trying to find another source so I can help other people who might want to give it a try. I did find some little plastic ones on Amazon. It's nice to learn how to do your little creatures. Throughout the year it's fun to surprise my grandchildren with their own little paintings. I think I'm improving with the tips you share. Especially concerning their eyes. I think I'll start with the feet next time I try an animal😊 it seems less intimidating.

Hi. Diane, on this video, you mentioned you traced when you began to paint. How long did it take you to feel confident with your own renderings?
That’s a good question!! It depends on the subject. Some things are harder. I still sometimes trace for speed and if it’s hard perspective. I’d like to give you a timeframe but I don’t think I can!! But I would say this - don’t worry about tracing being cheating. It’s not. It’s learning, and so trace until one day you pick up your pencil and realise don’t need to trace any more!
