I have known of Eva Cassidy for 20 years. This particular performance is considered by many to be one of the finest ever recorded of this song. I certainly agree. It is said that Eva did not know of her fate when performing this 10 months earlier. However, her tone and the look on her face and mannerisms seem to indicate that she did know. It is haunting.
I wanted to send that link in a separate comment so in this one I will say that im one of the rare people that actually knew of Eva before she passed. A friend heard her play in a blues club in DC and bought one of her CDs out of her car. He played me one of the songs and I absolutely loved it. He burned me a copy as we did in those days, unfortunately it's been lost in a couple of my moves that I've had since then. I got songbird after she died, and it's such a tragic loss because you just don't know what she could have been had she lived. And to think if it weren't for these recordings we never would have known her voice. England got one over on us on this one because they realized her talent before people here in America did. And she still I think tragically unknown In America which is why I always tell people in these comments please spread the word get her name out there. Turn music really is life-changing so you might even give it to somebody who's going through depression or having a really rough time in life. Spread the word!
