Ms Brandy, I have done many pieces of laminate furniture using Dixie Belle Mineral Chalk paint, Waverly chalk paint and even Annie Sloan chalk paint and I have never used a primer or slick stick to make the paint adhere. I have some of those pieces in my home and they are heavily used (side tables & night stands) and no paint has come off of any of them. I do coat with 2-3 coats of wax or a top coat made for chalk paint. I use DB Slick Stick more for glass, ceramic or plastic.
I always err on the side of caution since they will be in customers homes. Slick stick is labeled for laminate as well
