Decoupage cedar chest in a horse theme, blending paper edges and an industrial look
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 жов 2024
- Follow from start to finish as we makeover a cedar chest in a look inspired by an old industrial mining cart full of age and character. we will decoupage a horse image and learn to paint in the edges of the paper to seamlessly fit the furniture, then create resin moulds to adorn the sides with horse shoes, consistent with the theme. Add some industrial looking wheels, and even iron patina paint to looks like its been sitting outdoors for ages.

🤗🤗🤗I love horses..my horse is my baby ..he's 11yrs old..but he's my best friend..I'm 50 yrs old and I ride him every where even in Mountain areas here in Montana..2 yrs ago he actually saved me..me n my husband were riding and I was following him and went through a quicksand type of wide pond.. didn't know it at the time..my husband's horse wasn't strong enough to make it through..my husband fell good thing it was close to the end .. pulled his horse out...and my feet fell out of the stirups and I leaned forward hugged my horses neck hard..he's a very big boy..he used all his strength to get through..rough ride..if I would have fell..idk what would have happened.. Sorry Brandy..I wrote you a book..lol..
I love that story!
I love this piece! A bit of advice....when you use horseshoes as decor, the open end goes on the top. There's an old wives tell that basically states horseshoes facing up sends the/your luck up to heaven. Horseshoes pointing down, your luck goes the opposite direction.
LOL. I scrolled down to see if I was the only one who noticed that. Horseshoes always are up. But I think this is one my favorite pieces that you've ever done. The rusty look really is remarkable. Absolutely stunning.
Actually, I looked that up, some feel upside down horseshoes means that luck will rain down on you
Lol. I've always heard it's because if you put the open side down the luck will fall out.
I thought this as well but I’m a Brit so not sure in us
I knew there was something off about the horseshoes. The piece was lovely, but not a fan of the horseshoes.
That is perfect. I love also that you do not advertise just one kind of product name. So rare. I am starting so I got lots of ideas and techniques.
Brandy he's gorgeous 🥰
Wow!! This piece is wonderful. I love to watch you blend colors. An amazing transformation. Thank you for sharing.

So beautiful! It actually looks metal... Love this!
Simply GORGEOUS!!!
Brandy!!!! 😍😍😍 THAT is beautiful!!! Probably one of my favs!

This is just like my mom’s cedar chest but hers lost its skirt many years ago. I’m excited to see this one!

I think you need to change the name of your channel to Crushed It By Brandy!!!! Absolutely gorgeous and soooo inspiring!!!
Lol, done, I like it 😂
Absolutely awesome 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I love this hope chest!
I love a western look. I would like to see more of that kind of furniture pieces. The cedar chest is beautiful.
Love how you can switch hands and keep the momentum going!
beautiful! You are so talented.
This is so gorgeous 🙂
That is a big wow!
I’ve heard the same thing with the horse shoes but mine was different. When curve is at bottom it holds your luck (whatever you’re lucky at, I guess) and when opposite it drains your luck. Found that out from future daughter-in-law who takes care of 10 horses upstate NY and teaches kids riding lessons and with rescue horses!!! Who knew? I Love!!!! 🍀🐎🍀
I know! Had no idea!
@@BrushedbyBrandy I shared the pix of it with her!!! She loves❤️🐎❤️
Wow, this turned out awesome. Thank you for sharing 😍
You are so welcome!
Gorgeous work ❤ it
Beautiful ❤
Beautiful!
Great job!
Beautiful 😍 but in uk horseshoes always face up its good luck , horses have been in my life for 45 years so I was shouting turn the horse shoes up . But omg the wood top the rust contrast is amazing so clever
Another masterpiece :)
OMyGoodness Brandy!!!! That is the most Beautiful rustic, Beautiful patina, Beautiful horse piece of furniture I’ve seen!!!! ❤️🐎❤️I have always Loved horses, but being Army brat and moving every 2-4 years didn’t really have access to them. Is that a Cavalier cedar chest! I have one with the shelf too and all the medallions and paper in it!!!! I’m so Happy for you that you went out of your box!!!🍀🐎🍀I Love It!!!!💚🍀💚
It has the shelf inside too!
@@BrushedbyBrandy Yes it does!!!!!
Love this and of course had to order the horse!!
It's such a classic image
I can't tell you how much I love this. I just completed the same style of chest and mine plain sucks. This is gorgeous. I'm a sucker for industrial vintage.
I'm amazed you were able to sand the top down so beautifully. I'm always worried about over sanding.
I'm going to get that cool topcoat. All your supplies are awesome!
Especially on waterfall tops, they can be so fragile
It came out GRReat!!! Be proud of yourself, Brandy!
Unbelievable!! You are amazing , I have two cedar chests and never imagined doing something like this . True artist and teacher . Just love this , thank you
Wow, thank you!
Brandy, your work always amazes. You are a true artist. I feel so thankful to you for sharing your techniques so readily. That piece is so beautiful. Great job!
Oh Brandy, how did I miss this one until now. It is absolutely stunning, just stunning!
Another wonderful masterpiece!! Thank you!🐎
Wow...this is stunning. I love horses, but would not necessarily want for decor....but this one I would definitely love to add to my home. You are AMAZING and your customer is so LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love love love this piece!! ❤️🥰❤️ I just love everything about it ... the paper, the blend, the molds, the top and the rust, copper, patina was the perfect touch. Absolutely gorgeous piece 💖💞💝
Wow! Thank you!
Stunning! Love the results. Bravo!
I love this! The horseshoes are perfect on the chest. Really added a unique look.
You are an amazing furniture artist !!
OMG love that piece. When you first started with the rust I thought that would ruin it. But OMG IS IT EVER GORGEOUS !!! Thanks so much. I just found your channel
Karen 🌴
I'm always scared ill ruin it too, lol
You really introduced us to a lot of new products and techniques on this. Bravo!!!! This one is going down as a favorite!!😍
Definitely tried out some new stuff!
Wow!! this is amazing. love how this came out!!!
This is truly amazing Brandy.I'm going to attempt something similar but I don't think it will come close to yours.
BEAYTIFUL! I love the top, I love the whole piece. I just noticed you can brush with both hands! The word is ambidextrous! Amazing skil. Your skills are endless. Thanks for sharing.
It usually means the camera is on selfish mode vs. Another person videoing, I'm generally right handed
Stunning! I love the rust look on it!! Great job!!
Gorgeous! I love all the new paints and products. Your work has always been stunning, but the new products have kicked your pieces up to a whole new level.
I'm feeling more creative with more freedom
WOW 🤩 THAT IS GORGEOUS! I’m loving some of the products you’re using also.
This cedar chest turned out amazing !! I love the look and most of all, the horse decoupage paper. Thanks Brandy for another great piece !!
Isn't that paper pretty!
@@BrushedbyBrandy Yes it is !!
This is gorgeous! What an artist you are!
You are so awesome!! I love everything you do, such talent. Thank you for sharing with us
I have this same ceder chest. I was born in 1949 and used to use my grandma's ceder chest as a slide. The lock should be removed, as it locks if a child crawls inside and they can't get out.
I did order the repair kits from Lane
Gorgeous as always!!
Absolutely gorgeous!
Absolutely stunning!! 🥰
Absolute artistry, Brandy! Beautiful!🌸
Nice piece.
Sad that you removed the skirt though. I’m a horse girl & don’t think of horses as industrial, so the feminine skirt suited the pice more, especially with the moulding.
You need to turn the horse shoes up the other way though, all the good luck is draining away.
The customer prefered the skirting removed and cart wheels are definitely common on horse property
Such an amazing work of art!! So talented!! Great tutorial. I love Modern Masters products.
Beautiful patinas!
WOW 🤩
So beautiful! The horseshoe mold didn't do the beauty of this piece justice though.
I have written that you are the 1st of all artists, especially in using colours, AMAZING.
I have a question please, what is the name of the material you used to make the mold, the one one can use over and over again?
Thank you in advance for your time and reply.
Best wishes.
great job on making the chest lovely. i see a problem though. you are letting all your good luck fall out of your horse shoes. they should always be hung with the opening the other direction. when in the other direction they catch all the good luck and keep it for you to have good luck in your life.
Oh yes, I learned that for next time!
❤❤❤
Horse shoes need to be turned up to catch good luck.
Wow Brandy, that is awesome, I have a log cabin that this would look great in,, I just picked up a cedar chest 3 days ago, for free, the bottom is boogerd up, so now I know what I can do to the bottom, do you have any ideas for the top, the veneer is in good shape, and I will stain it, now all I have to do is the middle, YOU know it's hell just starting out, with no vision, keep up the great work girl, I have a Brandy file, to write down all the goodies you tell us, cause I can't remember all of them, Thank you for all of your help.
I texted that wrong, I know what I am going to do to the top, see what I mean, the mind is going girl, hell getting old
Taking that skirting off and can add legs or wheels, it's a nice update
Another home run, for sure. The stain on the top is perfect, too. What color is it? I didn't find it in your description.
It's a weathered wood accelerator In black and oak from weatherwash
You rocked it! Looks amazing. You said you sprayed two coats of clear on it. Did you use a spray can or a sprayer?
A paint sprayer
👍👍👍
Beautiful . I am wondering why you did not use real horseshoes?
The weight and I didn't have enough available
I have been looking to buy some of the MM rust but I see a lot of people say you need the primer to go with it or it doesn't act the same. Is that true? I would be using it on wood. I came across metal effects by Dixie Bell also. Which brand do you recommend that would give the best effect. I have never used Dixie bell for anything but I have some MM metallic paint. I have been fallowing your work for awhile now and have learned a lot. Just now getting brave enough to take on furniture since we bought a house. I'm use to acrylic canvas painting and pencil drawing. Thank you so much for your time and amazing how tos.
Also can you make your own rust activator or do you need to buy that brand?
Do the resin moulds need to be primed for the paint to stick? I have always primed but it looks like you may have just painted these so I wasn’t sure if I’ve been wasting my time. Lol
I rarely prime unless maybe I'm going to be glazing them which causes a lot of rubbing to the point or maybe if using a paint known not to adhere well
@Brushed By Brandy, can you tell me where you got that horse print? Or if you have a link could you send it to me? I've been trying to find it but have had no luck. Horses are my passion and I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS! THANK YOU! YOU ARE SO TALENTED!
This is a mint by Michelle paper. It is discontinued, but you can still find some on etsy
@@BrushedbyBrandy thank you so much!
Great video and beautiful ideas as always!! Love the grouping of appliqués❤️. I had trouble finding that exact brush on the cling on site, which number is it, please?
And do you have an affiliate link for the gallon resin? I can only find it in clear, not 10min white.
Is the guilding wax water based that you could clear coat over, or did you do that last?
It's not water based, but you can seal it once it has cured at least 24 hours. Optional to do before or after your sealer
Are you using one brush only
I use a brush for each color
✂️🔨🎶🎶🎵👏
Wonderful piece and video! Did you sea
The top of the paper before blending over it? If not, how long did you let it dry before adding the paint? We’re you afraid at all that the paper would rip while swirling the paint? Thanks!
I did not seal this one, but it has a sort of glossy finish on the face, sealing can be a good idea with some papers
How do you get your image so large?
This is a standard Size for this image
This is a great piece although the horseshoes where upside down. And I really felt the chest didn't need it.
Horse shoes go up the opposite way to how you laid them. I’m sure your client knew straight away if she is a horse person.
