  • Making a pattern for a foam mask. I wanted a face mask pattern for my shop, so I used the same technique I did to make a foam helmet. The mask patten was a nice start, but not what I envisioned, so now that I have the pattern, I’ll be able to make changes to it to get more of what I wanted.
    Here my supply list on this build.
    Head form.

    Ted, I always appreciate how freely you share your knowledge and expertise! I was stumped on how to make a unique foam pattern without losing my mind and then I came across your video. I always prefer draping when it comes to fabric pattern making, so it goes without saying that this method appeals to me. 😁 I just didn’t know how to start-now I do. Thank you!

    When you throw punches, you make sound effects, and it is awesome and cracks me up. I watched an interview with Ewan Macgregor, and he said it was hard for everyone to not make sound effects while swinging light sabers.

    Hey Ted, It's Andrew. Thanks so much for showing me your workspace and all of your creations! Seeing the origins of the two prototypes you so kindly gave to myself and my girlfriend through this video was fascinating, and I'm so glad we got to talk about the UA-cam community as long as we did. It really inspires me to see someone not only doing what they love but teaching others about it as well. I can confidently say that with your work ethic and sheer passion, you have earned yourself an amazing community of future creators and undoubtedly inspired countless members of my generation to go into your area of the arts. Hope to talk to you more soon!

I'm sure I could make this by following Ted's instructions but I'm lazy. I'll take ANY shortcut I can. Who else wants to purchase this pattern?? Let ted know in the comments. First off I love the channel.
    Secondly, I drew out a slasher mask for a project I am working on and this mask has the perfect shape. This will be my first foam project and. I already bought the pattern from your site. Twice actually I’ve in 8.5 x 11 I thought it came with both lol.
    Anyways for the question. If I just wanted to have the face part of the mask where would you cut it? The Picture of the template on your site looks kinda like it is just the front.

    • @EvilTedSmith

    Hi Ted! I love your channel, although watching you encourages me to add another hobby to my already lengthy list. There's never enough time. Is it possible to glue (Barge) stretchy fake fur to the mask? I was thinking about adding fur in strips to allow for the curvature of the mold and wondered if you had tried that approach. And are these comfortable to wear for several hours at a time? It seems it would get very hot in a very short minute. Keep being awesome!

    • @EvilTedSmith
      @EvilTedSmith  4 роки тому

      Yes, all costumes made of foam get hot. As for fur, you can use the same pattern for it as the same I do with foam.

  • @0meat
    @0meat 5 років тому +1

    Huh, you heat after gluing. I like to heat before gluing, then I can bend all the way to the seam and bake in more curves. This method is letting me do a lot of complex curves on a fallout mask I am working on, It pulls back a little on the corner because the foam shrinks a little, but I will usually end up cleaning up the edge with a dremmel or knife to make it join cleanly again.
