Making a Sam Mask from Trick 'r Treat

- With Halloween just around the corner, why not keep the theme rolling with another festive build, a Sam mask from the movie Trick 'r Treat. For this build I used 6 mm and 4 mm EVA foam, burlap, twine, rope, hot glue, contact cement, super glue, Plasti Dip, and some spray paints. You may also need the following tools: heat gun, a Dremel with various bits, awl, r and xacto knife or box cutter. the original Texas chainsaw massacre did the same thing about the murdering... doing it off scene... which made it more of a thriller instead of a horror movie... which in my eyes.... made it better to watch... great job Thomas... excellent mask

HELP THIS SCARED ME
I've been looking for references from my dear Sam since the beginning of the month so I can make his mask (which is in progress) and this video just came out, it's amazing how seriously google takes my searches!

I want to do that the bad thing is that in my city they don't sell thick eva rubber and I'll have to wait until December but I'll still do it when I can even if it's not for Halloween because I love this character:D
You could make the base out of something else. Even cardboard might work on this one. Since it gets covered with burlap, it hides whatever is underneath. You could even build a wire frame to glue the burlap on instead. Or get a clear dome, glue 2 plastic bowls together a cut a hole at the bottom, a plastic pumpkin, or maybe a plastic witches cauldron. There tons of other things you could use instead of foam, you are just looking for a shape to hold the stuff on top.

I ran out of time, but I thought about making the pumpkin sucker out of some clear orange acrylic. Just need an adult orange onesie and Little Sam is all grown up. Lol
That looks so good. I actually went to Beyond Fest, but not for the Trick R Treat screening. I went for a William Shatner horror marathon 😂 It’s crazy Trick R Treat is finally getting shown at theaters
I read something about it getting shelfed because they didn't want it to compete with Saw. Never seen the movie but now I think I might need to. The storyline seamed interesting
I always get excited when I see the title Trick r Treat, then u realize it's not Trick or Treat with Gene Simmons.. its like fruit stripe gum, yeah ahhhh.. pretty cool build Mr Much.
It is such an underrated horror movie.

Thanks. I wasn't familiar with the movie but see the Sam character all over the place during Halloween. Haven't see Trick or Treat either. Guess I need to catch up on some Halloween movies 🎃👊
OMGosh, turned out GREAT! My granddaughter wants to be Sam for Halloween. Cutting it close! Do I need to resize this for her (8 years old) or just measure for the eyes??
Depends on how small they are. The head is supposed to be large on Sam. You may want to scale it to 85 or 90% on this build.

This was an amazing build and very accurate especially for a builder that's never seen the film. I am an absolute super fan of Trick r Treat. I wont bore you with my credentials of such but I had to make a correction of literally no importance: Michael Dougherty's "Seasons Greetings" where Sam made his first appearance, was actually created in 1996 while Michael was an animation student. The 2004 in your note and on IMDB's listing was the UK release year. Also fun fact: Michael Dougherty cut his finger while animating and the some of the blood on Sam's face at the end of Season's Greetings is Dougherty's actual blood. Here's a sub btw

I would love it if you would do a Death Eater mask from the Harry Potter series. There aren't any good patterns or tutorials online, that I have found. I am making one for myself for Halloween this year, but it isn't turning out as well as I'd hoped. I know it wouldn't be in time for Halloween, but maybe it would help someone else in the future.

It's a good base for a mascot head. I've seen people use it for all kinds of creative spin-offs.

Sick man! when you said about the glue not sticking down i was recently making loads of stuff from burlap and liquid latex does absolute wonders with sticking burlap and shaping it :)

Looks fantastic! Mind me asking... would the same pattern work for scale in DIY build of a Sam and if so what size should the template shapes be? And what size is the sheet of EVA 6mm you were using please?
I build most of my stuff to fit me. I don't know what the scale for a child size version of it would be. At 6 foot 3 and 250 pounds my giant head is 24 inches around at the forehead. As far as the width of the EVA, I mainly use HD Foam from SKS Props and it comes in rolls of 24 inches by 60 inches

Love this! I used this template to make a pumpkin head for my daughter last year and it was amazing. This year, my son wants to be Sam. I have a quick question. How is the visibility in this one through the burlap? Is it suitable for wearing to actually trick r treat? Pun intended. lol
Visibility, if I recall correctly, is okay. I sold it shortly after I made it. You could also make the eye hole larger to increase visibility. Or if you had a face shield, you could glue it to the outside of the sphere and make an even larger viewing space. Any bigger than a 2 or 3 inch circle may distort the face once you put the burlap on.
Great mask!! I plan to wear this costume this year, but my question is... can you really see with that mask? 😅
It's actually not as bad as you would think. You can actually oversize the eye holes to increase your visibility

I built Wheatley back before I had a UA-cam channel and never made a video for him. Might be one I need to revisit. I have some cool ideas to nake my first one better

It's a big dome so there is space. Plus since it is covered in burlap you could cut extra hole around the head for circulation or even put a fan inside to help.

You should definitely do anything from the new anime Chainsaw Man!There are so many cool characters you can make helmets for, like katana man.
I've not seen the anime, but was very impressed with SKS Props Chainsaw Man helmet he made a while back. I will have to take a look at the characters

It is not hard to breath in as it is very oversized and roomy on the inside. It will be on my Etsy at some point, just really busy with a build this weekend.

I use 2 different ones. The silver one is a DREMEL 9100-21 FORTIFLEX PRECISION ROTARY TOOL and I also use a battery powered one called the Dremel 8220 cordless 12 Vmax
