As a defender I got 1 goal from RB (a 30 yard screamer vs the 1st place team (we were 5th out of 12 at the time) and I got 13 assists since I'd overlap alot and a few from set pieces
Another superb video, thanks. I love controlling the ball with my thigh, I’m always encouraging the kids to use it during their games. If by chance you’re doing requests, I’d love to see a video on drills that can safely be done indoors in the home, given a certain amount of room. Here in Canada, we don’t get to use our gardens for 4 to 5 months of the year. Cheers!
Thank you 🙏 it’s such a useful skill. I often have players come through that have never been taught. Instead they tend to hop super high to control it on the instep. Still effective, but a lot slower in the transition Great suggestion. Is there anything in particular that you want to improve/work on? Regardless, it’s on the list of videos 👍
@@thefootballfolk being in close proximity to breakables (my wife would kill me if she reads this, so mums the word, eh?), close control drills, getting familiar with the ball at both feet, small delicate touches, exercises to improve strength and range of movement etc. Thanks again!
great video, great explanations, great details with slow motion. I specially like that you start with a proper body preparation and position. Keep doing your wonderful job!
Top of the foot thing can also be executed in a sweeping motion with your legs very relaxed and knees a bit bent Particularly if you're stationary and the ball is coming to your lift side a bit, you can just trap it to your right with outside of your right foot
I prefer top of my foot as it’s similar to a kick up, it’s also the cleanest landing that has NO bounce whatsoever when pulling the foot down. It’s just a matter of how quick it’s done.
the top of the foot touch killer skill to master, this one in particular is either you have or don't. it's a comfort level skill once this wired in you dont even look at the ball when u do it. my go to touch skill when defenders get too intimate and tryn to guess my spaces. top of the foot over the head or top of the foot through the legs. #deadly
New video coming!😁😁😁 Can I give a suggestion? Maybe you can teach more in the video, like give some flexibility of hip training suggestions after the "The Instep" skill? Most amateur players lacked their body control more than skills, So I think maybe you can teach them how to improve their body control to doing skills well after the skills explanation? Just in my experience only. Hope you can understand my poor English😀😀😀 I'm a trouble maker🤣🤣🤣
You trouble maker, you!! 😂 Great suggestion! I’m always mindful not to overwhelm people too much, but this is definitely something to keep in mind for upcoming videos 👍🧡 Your English is fantastic! I wish I could speak another language. Appreciate you being here 🙏
@@thefootballfolk Thanks for the reply! You know I'm a big fan of you😁 I agree with you that not overwhelming people too much is a great idea. I'm just considering that you're a great fitness coach, I think it's the shining point than any other producers. Appreciate you're always making good video👍👍👍
This all works very well until your goalie smashes the ball 20 meters in the air and you have to control it while a 45 years old construction worker blows his breakfast smell into your neck
Any tips on how to control the ball while you are traveling at speed towards it and its being passed towards you suddenly? Sort of jumping to absorb impact?
Spot on 👍 you may see a couple of the shots where I’m running towards the ball like you mentioned. And hopping and controlling it as you’re on the way down tends to be the best timing for control and speed in my experience
You’re welcome mate. I’m not sure to be honest. I personally don’t think it makes a difference. I have size 11.5 US feet, and I would say one of my best attributes is my first touch :) I think it really comes down to body awareness, and knowing how to use it to your advantage
When dribbling negative thought says “I might lose the ball and I might get concede a goal”and this keeps repeating over and over again and this makes me mess up the things that I have practiced dribbling drills alone by myself over and over again due to the panic that is happening. do you know how to fix this?
Thanks for sharing. This really comes down to a lack of confidence, like not fully believing in yourself or not wanting to let your team mates down. We all go through this at some point. It’s quite normal. My suggestion is to keep practicing the fundamentals until you’re really confident in your technique. But also realizing that it’s ok to lose the ball. The very best in the world lose the ball a lot. I believe Messi had the most incomplete dribbles of the ball in league 1 last year (ie lost the ball), and its due to him trying things that most wouldn’t time and time again. So try things, mess up, and learn from your mistakes 🧡🙏
Appreciate the reminder, but it’s going to be a while until I get to this. There are other video requests I have lined up from way back. As you can imagine it takes a lot of time and effort to turn around a video, so the list is long 👍
You taught yourself these basic skills when I was a kid many years ago, and they’re still the most important ones to perfect. Too many kids nowadays think they need 101 silky “look good” skills and yes they’re good to have on you locker, but not 100 percent important.
All of this is useless because there’s pressure in a game , where 2 people are marking you. You’re basically standing alone using cones , anybody can trap when they are alone champ. Deal with game situations realistically
But you still can practice the touches like they show in the video. The way to learn stuff is going from easy to hard. Of course it is harder to do it in game, but when you build your confidence and sense for Ball control with the exercises they show in the video you will probably be able to do it in Game aswell.
So following your logic you should never train anything using cones because its not realistic compared to an ingame situation you literally make no sense
THIS is literally how you handle game situations “realistically”. Footballers do this all of the time in professional matches. Please don’t be so annoying and comment without even watching the video. I bet you don’t even play football.
Every professional Ik and have played with use these drill, the cones aren’t supposed to defenders just an area so you can practice keeping the ball close to you. Could you make a video on defending? Like tackling and maybe defensive headers
Yes, a video about man to man defensive corners
It’s on the list I promise 🙏
Great video. You mentioned absorbing the energy which is really the key for all touching. Touching without control is meaningless.
💯
This video is beautiful man. Especially when the ball hit your foot in slow motion, those scenes were 🤌🏻😘

The in-step one is most fundamental. If you get perfect at this, which most decent players are, the other two become easier without thinking about it.
