To anybody who has never had one of these, the sound is great but I think the app is its main selling point. Sure, you can create your own presets, but I like to go through their cloud and download presets that other folks have already made. You can search pretty much any band or song and, chances are, someone has made a preset for it, and you can change through them with one button press or download them to the spark. I was really surprised that there were some awesome Boston/Rockman presets (a very specific sound thats kind of hard to get right) that some folks made and it nails the tone.
Its also small enough that you can take it with you on family trips to the lake, cabin, visiting the other side of the family on Thanksgiving etc and have basically a full sounding rig all in one box. All this, plus the training tools and backing track stuff makes this an awesome learning tool and a really fun toy to play around with.

My 50watts Marshall Solid State is 36lbs... it's a PAIN to carry or move around the house..
compared to this.. you can carry it with 1 hand and bring it with you.. carry it all day in parks. You can also use it as a high quality a STEREO bluetooth speaker. Also as Bass and Acoustic amp. All in one.. It's also smart. It Blows the competition.

@spada60 It all depends on how much you choose to limit yourself and your creativity. Spark 2 has access to nearly limitless tones, tools to build your own rhythm tracks, a looper, etc.
If you can't see the benefits, that has more to do with your own personal preferences and limitations.

Well i purchased this amd and the cab. I modified it and sent a line out socket from the head to the cab. As plugging in the speaker out disable the amp speaker. Now at home with can and head together. This thing sounds amazing. Just gives you massive sound. Add the hendrix amp package. wow. The looper though mmmm. Glitchy, and anymore than 2 overdubs the playback goes to sludge. Build quality is exceptional.

I really don't understand the people complaining about the tone or sustain of this amp.. You are not paying for emaculate tone.. you are paying for ease of use and practicality.. its just a practice amp.. not a gig-worthy machine.. hell, you could even use this at a small little open mic and sound fine. I've owned most different amps under the sun.. vintage fenders.. high gain marshalls, orange, friedman, vox etc.. I STILL like this amp.. not because it beats the aforementioned tone wise.. but in terms of portability and ease of use.. you get what you pay for.

Peoples pickups are just dogshit. Your pickups need to be on the hotter side ive noticed if you want that searing old school sound. The noise gate needs to be used sparingly and should be used to cut out tiny noises from idling etc not clean up your bad muting skills, having it more aggressive diminishes the attack a bit ive noticed

I have a Spark 40 and love it. I use it alone so don’t use a variety of presets. I have it set with a basic clean tone. I use an iPad loaded with backing tracks and run my guitar thru a Roland GR55 guitar synth. I am a busker (only). It’s not earth shattering volume wise for certain. But I had been told once to turn down that I could be heard from the ‘back’ of a store…..I’m still perplexed by that.

I’ve had the OG Spark 40 since the first presale drop. Use it constantly. Yes you can even put pedals in front of it! But the tones on board are amazing especially if you take some time to dial it in. I love how reactive it is to touch and dynamics. Can’t wait for my spark 2 to get here. My only “gripe” is that the app disconnects on its own far too often and occasionally it can take a couple tries to get the BT to connect. But I mostly save my own settings to the preset slots and then just fiddle with the onboard controls. I would not perform strictly through the app for this reason but otherwise I LOVE it. My tube amps barely get touched these days.

It’s a decent practice amp, but for not much more money, you could get the Katana mk3 head with a built in practice speaker as well. The Katana head is 100w so you can gig much bigger venues than the Spark can, and I just like the sound of the Katana better.

    • @ShiroiTengu
      @ShiroiTengu 2 місяці тому +2

I had both the Katana and the first Spark at the same time. The Spark completely blew away the Katana, so much so that it went right back to the store. Katana has more effects variety but overall has a really ugly plastic boxy midrange to me

Not everyone wants to gig nor needs a 100W speaker. No one should expect the Spark series to be gig worthy. That’s not its purpose. It’s like comparing a Fender Mustang Micro to a Boss Katana.

I had the first Spark. I fell for all the cool bells and whistles, tiddlywinks and doodads. But none of them could overcome the fact that the amp sounded like ass. I won't get fooled again. I moved on to the Katana for a while. And recently bought the Line 6 Pod Express. This tiny little plastic box eat's the Spark's lunch for around half the price.

Got mine last week after using the Mini for a year. So much bigger and louder sound. It does sound a bit like a speaker rather than a guitar amp but the functionality in Sparks make them a great practise amp. I doubt the crowd at a small gig would critique your tone either. It gets most of the way there.

This upgrade is absolutely great in every way except for one MAJOR FAIL!! Apparently plugging into the new stereo/mono line out mutes the internal speakers in the same way plugging in headphones does. This is gobsmackingly weird. I mentioned this to positive Grid who replied "this is the normal way amps with line outs operate". Um.... NO IT'S NOT!!!

It sounds good because it is STEREO. Amps should be STEREO as standard as LONG time ago since the existence of STEREO Music.
Let's NORMALIZE buying Stereo Amps so manufacturers would stop creating MONO Amps. The Blackstar Core amps sounds BIG as well even if it's small.. because it's STEREO.
I just ordered mine. It should arrive next week.. Can't wait to get my hands on one. Will also use it as Bass and Acoustice Guitar amp. Amazing. All amps should handle Bass and Acoustic as well as standard.

Spark got the last of my money with the Spark 40. Can't use it....way too much bass....not able to use the EQ and chorus at the same time. Pissed me off! Then I tried the Cabinet. Can't use the 1/8" input and a XLR at the same time. Returned it! I wanted to use a mic....not happening with a mixer....just another thing to carry. If they want to trade my spark 40 for a spark 2 then I'll give them another change. Other then that....buzz off PG!
