Another great demo Lee and Pete! I've got the Spark 2 and it's one of the best bits of gear I've bought in the last 30 years, very flexible and really inspiring. While the Tone Cloud has an incredible amount of dirty/distorted/metal patches there's relatively few good quality clean patches so can I suggest you make your own and upload them as you suggest at 15:26 especially as Pete really knows a good clean tone when he hears it? If you do, give them an easily identifiable Lee/Pete/Andertons name as there are literally thousands with the same name, eg, 'Lead Guitar', 'Rhythm Guitar' etc with no idea of how good they are? Cheers chaps!
Same for me. The original already was great for home practising and this one is even better. Better sound, better connectivity and the looper which is fun to use although not my stuff tbh. I wasn't sure when I upgraded but overall pleased with this new piece of gear.

@@robertbaker3174 from a user of both the previous spark and the new spark 2, this amp is incredible for the price. The software comes with so many useful tools to make getting any sound that you want so easy. There is a multitude of different amps packaged into the app, as well as pedals and all sorts of effects. The ability to search up any sound you want and be able to choose from dozens to hundreds of accurate tones is so remarkable. It is hard to explain how truly convenient and nifty it is. I feel like with amps like these you guys should be just using a 'room' mic a meter or two in front of it instead of setting it up as you would a traditional guitar amp. That way you can give a much more accurate sound to what people buying the amp are going to get. No one is going to close mic these to record into a daw or anything like that
The Spark 1 has way more top end and the 2 has a more smooth rounded quality. Obviously, both have extensive paths to tone shaping. Great demo and banter. And I loved Lee’s first reactions to the AI tones and the generated chord charts, etc. I had the same reaction. Spark sounds, that ibanez sounded smashing, the PRS sounded pish. So impressed with Spark stuff these days, they maybe are releasing a bit too frequently but do enjoy them
I have both. The reverbs in v1 already sounded like they were coming from somewhere else, very 3d. I think I especially prefer the tweed sounds on the 1st one, but so far can’t tell the difference on other models aside from what I suspect is needing speaker break-in. That said, as someone willing/happy to gig with this in the right situation the line out (which, annoyingly kills the speaker) and much better footswitch is worth the upgrade. Still unsure if I will hold on the the gen. 1. It’s pretty easy to make space for a good sounding amp/BT speaker… especially so small. Biggest unsolved mystery is getting the looper settings to save between sessions… it always defaults back to click; I want to keep it free.
Great demonstration. Here in Michigan just bought one after selling my regulr Spark. This one is way better! My son in law is from Cambridge and next time he visits his Mum my wife and I want to visit him. Your store will be my first stop! Need a tee shirt!
I love my Spark and just got the Xsonic looper. Such a great system for teaching with the Bluetooth speaker. Very tempted to get the new one too and keep the old ones for my student to play through. They can then stream things from their phones too.
I owned the first Spark and hated the sound and eventually sold it. My Yamaha THRII is my main practice amp which sounds far better. I do still have the mini Spark. My issues with the Spark is the sound quality was poor and NO Spring Reverb! New Spark 2 has some nice added features but not sure it fixed the two main issues I mentioned.
Bought mine on the early bird thing on the day ( more minute ) of release , arrived early September, it’s awesome, I love the thing , still not used all the functions but I’ll get around to it, great bit of kit , especially for an old newbie like me, I’ve got the spark go too which is brilliant, which is why I went for the spark 2 as an upgrade, I can’t recommend it enough 👍👍🤠
I don't have a relatively new understanding of amplifiers and pedals, but I still gravitate to my Spark. It's just so damn easy. The point is to play, and this is excellent at promoting that.
I have the Spark 40, it's great but there are a few things I wish it had that the new one has is rechargeable battery and the labels for all of the function knobs actually on top, and visible. I've put a piece of tape on top of mine with all functions written on it, it helps a lot. But AI would be interesting. Great work fellas ☺
I have the spark 40 too..I added my own battery and I bought one of the purpose made labels that stick to the top for seeing the knob markings easier, I'll probably stick with the 40 for a while yet.
The AI works on the Spark 40 mate, it's all just app features. The tonal differences are minor and of course the Spark 40 lacks a few physical features, but everything they demonstrate on the app is exactly the same for Spark 40 and Spark 50.
AI Smart Jam works on the 40. I actually find it was better on the 40 than the 2, I spend way too long trying to get the AI drummer and bass to play nice with what I'm playing compared to the Spark 40 for whatever reason. The AI tone search is kind of redundant for the same reason, the tonecloud search bar does the same thing but better. I've already commented this on this video but being able to rename your favorite drum loops on the Looper would be an absolute game changer, for some reason it always shuffles the drum loops, even within your favorited ones, so you spend way too long trying to get the right loop for what you're trying to play
I think it’s a no-brainer to go for the Spark 2. First, it’s not that much more expensive than the original. The tones sound phenomenal, then add the extra features, (especially the looper and AI search abilities) and you have an incredibly progressive amp with endless possibilities. If that’s a bit much for you, the Spark 1 is still on the PG website at a lower price. What a fantastic company that oozes confidence. The Spark 2 has set the bar and is the amp to beat, period. Great video guys.
I was able to snag one on pre-order for $220 CAD. Absolute steal, and much improved over the 40 for the sound. The 40 had a firmware update to dial out the bass more just before they started doing pre-orders for the 2
My rug in my livingroom looks kinda like yours, but different colors. Well you can order a custom grille, and mine matches the rug in the room where it lives. Its beautiful. I can enjoy it when its not even on.
The 2 definitely sounded better to my ears, though it would be interesting to hear the "in the room" difference. Love the new additions and improvements, even the visual ones...very nice.
I have a Spark 1 and don't really use it a TON, but I still do like having it. For me the major selling points of the 2 is the line outs and the battery. I might just have to pick one up!
At first look it’s much better than Nux Mighty Space bc of the lower price and the looks… but it turns out that all the extra accessories are sold separately, which is not the case with the Nux where you get all the goodies included with the purchase. And the prices of individual accessories for the Spark are hefty. If you buy the footswitch, the battery and the transmitter/receiver you’re much over the budget of the Nux. So this begs the question: which is better? I’d love to see a comparison video on these two and maybe other competitors 😃
I tried one for a few days to see if I'd like it as a cheap alternative to the THR30II I use at work for practice and it felt like they added a lot and spent a lot of time and money adding AI features, but the sound still isn't there, it doesn't sound any better than the original did, just louder and with more features, none of which makes it sound better just make it a bigger software package
The THR amps sound amazing but they're overpriced imo. The THR30II is £429 new and has less power, smaller speakers and lacks a lot of effects compared to the Spark.
@@rupe82 I'll take quality over quantity anyday. 150 amps doesn't mean anything if they all sound mid at best compared to 15 different great sounding amps. Same with effects, what's hundreds of effects good for if they are all mediocre compared to 3-4 solid implementations. And the speakers, the the may have smaller speakers, but they sound more full than the extremely bass heavy sound of the sparks modeling and speaker array that is a constant negative in every review of it
Also if you have a Spark 40 and have it registered on the Positive Grid site, you can "upgrade" to the 2 for a discounted price but don't need to send the 40 in to cash in on that. You could sell the 40 and get some of the money back that you spent buying the 2 even at a discounted price.
Wow, thoroughly impressed especially by the ai pedal section. Huge for beginners and intermediates that are just looking to get a sound quickly, and it's actually good. Sounds better than a Katana to me. Looks like the next frontier for modeling amps.
Though you can do it in other ways, the AI feature is cool because you can figure out what pedals it takes to sound like whoever you’re trying to sound like all in one place. Such a great practice tool.
I bought myself one of these and I enjoy it. But I do find that a lot of the higher gain stuff sounds a bit phoney... And if you use it as a Bluetooth speaker, it is just massively bassy.
I've yet to hear a sparkly clean tone from any demo of this amp. And I wonder if it's because this is also a bass amp, which has beefier driver requirements than a guitar. I once stuck a tweeter into a bass combo to get more brightness for slapping. It sounds like that would help this thing for guitar cleans 😂
I use my Spark 1 pretty religiously for room practice and jamming. It isn't terrible by any means. Of course I still have some gripes but I can't be sold on a Spark 2 without a couple of things that needed to be addressed. I'm glad they incorporated a looper with some drums.. that's great. However, still no separation of mod from EQ.. like come on.. I'm not expecting 20 wet fx but at least separate the mod from EQ at a minimum.... The spark AI is actually available for Spark 1 and I am just not impressed with the tones.. gonna take a while of learning to get some good sounding tones by default. Of course tweaking a couple that the AI generates yields good results. Without even hearing the Spark 2 in person I can't really pull the trigger yet.. Hopefully PG listens to these gripes and makes some improvements.
The drive tones on the 2 are fizzier. The cleans are quite nice. Both the 1 and 2 really struggle with the edge of breakup and lower gain drive sounds, though.
The biggest benefit to this type of practice setup no one even mentions or notices- you don't need an external, powered speaker- which will cost you as much as the modeler or more. Yes, there are several really good modelers on the market for around 300-400 bucks- but then you have to go buy a powered FRFR speaker which runs another 300-400 bucks. When you buy a spark- you're done- that's it, go play. That rocks. What I see a ton of guys try to do is they go buy something like a Headrush modeler- and then try to get away with a super cheap powered speaker- but it sounds horrid. You have to spend around 400 to get one that will do- if you want one that really sounds good though- you're talking more like 500-600 bucks. Ppl forget though- that's your real amp- not the modeler. In fact, if you have a good one, you can connect directly to the FRFR speaker and get a clean tone that's not horrible. It sounds like the DI tone you hear country players use. Of course you can always just go with headphones, but I don't know about other ppl but- I can't stand having to have them on to play- drives me nuts.
This thing should really have come with its own, built-in, wireless receiver and a transmitter. In the world of wireless communication that is the new standard that everyone expects. What a disappointment they didn't think of this obvious needed upgrade, while stuffing the unit with a ton of new options that most people will never need.
Thanks for the video guys. I bought one the other week and love it. Bit disappointed that the speakers mute when you use the line out. I was hoping this wouldn’t be the case. Any idea if there is a way around that?? Thanks again
Hi there! One deal breaker question: When using the app's video recording function, does it record the full processed guitar audio with jam tracks? Or just the internal phone mic?
Live in L.A. John Mayer's rythm guitarist did play through a Matchless honestly. Apart from the intro and solo to "Slow dancing in a burning room" the majority of the melody comes from that Matchless. SO maybe the Spark is on to something there...
Great video, thanks for the review. Do you have any thoughts that you are willing to share regarding the Spark 2 versues the Katana 100 Gen 3, as a home practice amp and/or for jamming with a small group of friends (including a drum kit)?

I'm definitely going to buy this. It took too long for Yamaha to release a new THR with a looper feature, I ain't wait any longer for that
Thank you for video! What in the 90's you couldnt get with big money you can now have with an inexpensive PRACTISE amp...
That Ibanez looks rather classy!
It's actually a PRS.
Uhm no
The blue finish is chef kiss
What model is the Ibanez?
How does is sound as a bluetooth speaker to just listen to music?
@ the backing tracks I use sound great through it , until I start playing 😂
Jesus Lee with the creamy tone! His very well polished technique is so easy on the ears!
I don't have a relatively new understanding of amplifiers and pedals, but I still gravitate to my Spark. It's just so damn easy. The point is to play, and this is excellent at promoting that.
Jeff Loomis Arch Enemy tone is pretty bang on, been rockin it since i bouggt the 40 2 years ago
Gents Zach’s “Momma I’m Coming Home” is his tone when he plays with Ozzy
Zakk Wyldes uploaded tones are pretty bang on
The best practice amp…for years now ! 👍👍
I've already commented this on this video but being able to rename your favorite drum loops on the Looper would be an absolute game changer, for some reason it always shuffles the drum loops, even within your favorited ones, so you spend way too long trying to get the right loop for what you're trying to play
my spark 2 died on day 3 ,, it will not power on .,. tested power supply , good
I think it’s a no-brainer to go for the Spark 2.
Doesn't hurt that Pete is playing a PRS NF 53. Nice demo of that too.
I have a Spark 1 and don't really use it a TON, but I still do like having it. For me the major selling points of the 2 is the line outs and the battery. I might just have to pick one up!
Also, just got my Spark 2 last week. Love it!!!
I love my spark 40 and have every intention on getting a 50, it’s made for me, the home player, even with 30 years playing.
Nux mighty space is better especially with the IRs feature
I tried one for a few days to see if I'd like it as a cheap alternative to the THR30II I use at work for practice and it felt like they added a lot and spent a lot of time and money adding AI features, but the sound still isn't there, it doesn't sound any better than the original did, just louder and with more features, none of which makes it sound better just make it a bigger software package
The thr30ii is a super sounding amp
Valid point, but not sure it's a fair comparison, given the THR is so much more expensive. They're in different price brackets entirely.
And the speakers, the the may have smaller speakers, but they sound more full than the extremely bass heavy sound of the sparks modeling and speaker array that is a constant negative in every review of it
@@BryanMiranda96 They've fixed the bass problem with the Spark 2 as mentioned in the video.
Also if you have a Spark 40 and have it registered on the Positive Grid site, you can "upgrade" to the 2 for a discounted price but don't need to send the 40 in to cash in on that. You could sell the 40 and get some of the money back that you spent buying the 2 even at a discounted price.
My favorite youtub guitar channel.
I have a spark 1 (and mini). I definitely buying this
Love watching your intros
Sounds pretty good! The real epic part is the looper and drums and stuff though. I'll grab one sooner or later, I'm sure. 🤣
Wish it had the custom grill option. That was so cool when positive grid used to offer that, bring it back please!
I bought myself one of these and I enjoy it. But I do find that a lot of the higher gain stuff sounds a bit phoney...
And if you use it as a Bluetooth speaker, it is just massively bassy.
6:06 I'm like "did he just say that??"🤣
Pete is such an entertaining guest. Incredible guitarist, turns into a 12 year old when goofing around.
Pete step your game up ! Lee is catching up 😂
They need a spark 3 with 8 inch speakers .good video
It's unfortunate that the factory presets were just terrible sounds to begin with during the spark 1 v 2 comparison at 36:00
I don’t understand what does double processing power mean?
Captain Lee could you please send me thoses tone settings you had for the openning jam
I don’t understand the reason behind muting the speaker while using the line out option.
Love my sparky 2!
You mentioned one for busking, is there a version with a channel for a vocal?
Live in L.A. John Mayer's rythm guitarist did play through a Matchless honestly. Apart from the intro and solo to "Slow dancing in a burning room" the majority of the melody comes from that Matchless. SO maybe the Spark is on to something there...
Great video, thanks for the review. Do you have any thoughts that you are willing to share regarding the Spark 2 versues the Katana 100 Gen 3, as a home practice amp and/or for jamming with a small group of friends (including a drum kit)?
looking forward to the Spark Edge review
